GAT Team Lobbying Training at Regional Fall Board Meeting on Saturday, September 29

On Saturday, September 29, Rick Anderson of Washington Nonprofits will conduct lobbying training at approximately 1:00 p.m. at Lake Bronson club. This will be a low impact class that will go over lobbying basics. If it is successful, we may invite him back for the 2013 convention at Squaw Mountain Ranch. There will be no grounds fees charged to GAT reps and their significant others. Contact Lake Bronson if you need an RV or tent site.

Reminder – Final Summer AANR-NW Rooster Rock/Sauvie Island Beach Clean-Ups of Year this coming weekend

September 22 – there will be a final SOLVE/AANR-NW sponsored beach and river side clean up event on Saturday, September 22 at 9:00 a.m. at Rooster Rock State Park. It will run until 1:00 or 2:00 p.m. or when ever people want to stop working. From ranger Glenn Littrell: “ Meet by the east end rest room and the majority of the work will be out on the C/O beach. I had a staff member use our bob-cat to fill the dragon fly trail holes or low spots with sand as soon as we could get out there and not get stuck, I also had them brush out and mow the trail that heads out to the east end of the lagoon so we will not have to do those two projects at the work party on the 22nd. We will be doing a good litter clean up and brush out a couple of trails as well as anything else we can come up with before the 22nd.”

This is a clothing optional event, if you are cleaning in the nude area. It is highly suggested that you wear shoes and sun screen. Hats are also recommended if it is very bright. Bring work gloves if you have them. All tools and clean-up bags will be furnished. We will be working with the Rooster Rock park staff. Park Ranger Supervisor Glenn or his designee will have a list of projects that includes light to heavy work. Volunteers do not have to pay the day use fee. Tell the person in the registration booth that you are there for the clean-up. When registering, you will receive a card to put in your window. Please do not bring or leave any items visible in your car. The only restrooms accessible from the nude beach are located near the parking area. Minor snacks and cold beverage will be provided.

September 23 – Sauvie Island-Collins Beach – clean-up at 1:00 p.m. A parking pass is required, however we now possess the ability to provide/print out a one-day complimentary pass for those that come to assist in the clean-up. Otherwise, a pass can be purchased at the store or deli after crossing the bridge to the island and at several other locations. Portable restrooms are close to each access trail and located in the parking area. We will concentrate our efforts on the gravel road parking area and litter sweeps of the beach area. Meet on the beach near the second Collins nude beach opening. Potluck at around 3:30 p.m. We plan to have a canopy erected with the AANR flag flying. The weather is supposed to still be very warm and dry. Contact gat@aanr-nw.org for the dated parking pass and /or further details on these events.

Seattle Parks on-line Survey – Request Nude or C.O. Venues

This is from a NAC Advisory forwarded to me. It is a good idea, so I am sharing it:

“A skinny-dipper friend of ours has pointed out to me that Seattle Parks & Recreation has a new online survey out. While taking it, I found three opportunities to say that I favored Seattle Parks¹ establishing a clothing-optional beach. This is an easy opportunity for naturists and their allies to speak up.

Please take the five minutes needed for the survey, and be nice. When the Naturist Action Committee and the Body Freedom Collaborative met with Parks officials not long ago, officials made clear to us that they needed to know that there were actually a large number of people interested in nude beaches. Here’s a chance to move in that direction.

People living in and near Seattle, WA are especially encouraged to take the survey, but others can, too.

The survey is at the following URL:

http://seattleparkssurvey.com/SPR1/SPR1logn.htm

The deadline is September 24

Jerry Trauntenberg

It is with sadness that I report the passing of Jerry Trauntenberg on August 23rd of a very aggressive brain cancer. He was President at Lake Bronson in the 90’s and served on many regional committees when his wife, Nancy, was NWNA president. He would always travel with her to the AANR conventions as her right hand “man”.

Jerry was born in Newark NJ, and got his Masters in Chemistry from Rutgers’ in 1958. He is survived by three children, two daughters and a son, from previous marriages. Nancy is his third wife. He and Nancy had celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on August 7, 2012.

His wishes were that he be cremated and his ashes be strewn at his farm.

A memorial service will be held later this year. An e-mail will be sent when it has been scheduled.

Please do NOT send flowers – Nancy is allergic to fragrances.

Respectfully, Karen Lahey

Please forget the empty email messages. We are still having our problems with our email list server. Be assured we are working to fix these issues.

Magnuson Park use hearing

Wednesday night, April 25, there is a meeting concerning uses of Warren G. Magnuson Park on the western shore of Lake Washington. The hearing is 6-8 pm in The Garden Room at Magnuson Park, 6344 NE 74th St in Seattle. If you are in the Seattle area and are able to attend, please do so. A good sized contingent representing AANR would be nice to have to show support for respectfully and calmly working with officials for the allowance of nude recreation in the park.

Kathy Smith President, AANR-NW

Could everyone please check your storage areas to see if you have one (or both) of the AANR-NW floor/table displays. We’ve lost track of both and need one at least to be brought to the board meeting for Sun Meadow. Please let me know if you find it and can get it to the meeting in two weeks. Thank so much.
