** French court rules that nudist hiker not guilty of indecent exposure

A 52-year old hiker had faced up to one year in prison, a 15,000-euro (US$ 19,947) fine and seeing his name added to the sex offenders list after a woman took offense at his nude stroll. He had dived into the bushes when he spotted the woman with her grandson, but she took him to court regardless for indecent exposure. He and fellow nudists/naturists had demanded a change in the law so that “people are not simply punished for being naked”. His lawyer hailed the judgment as a victory for nudists/naturists everywhere.

AANR-NW SEPTEMBER ROOSTER ROCK/SAUVIE ISLAND BEACH CLEAN-UPS

AANR-NW has continued to be beach adopters for the two legal nude beaches in
Oregon as well as Rooster Rock State Park. Coming this month are the final
two clean-ups of 2013.

The first beach clean-up will be on Saturday, September 21 at 9:00 a.m. at
Rooster Rock State Park. This is a clothing optional event, if you are
cleaning in the nude area. It is highly suggested that you wear shoes and
sun screen. Hats are also recommended if it is very bright. Bring work
gloves if you have them. All tools and clean-up bags will be furnished. We
will be working with the Rooster Rock park staff. The Park Ranger Supervisor
will have a list of projects that includes light to heavy work. Volunteers
do not have to pay the day use fee. Tell the person in the registration
booth, if it is manned, that you are there for the clean-up. When
registering for the clean-up, you will receive a card to put in your window.
Meet at the farthest east end of the parking lot near the restrooms above
the beach. The clean-up should not last longer than around three hours,
and will be followed by a hamburger/hot dog barbeque out on the beach where
the main trail comes through the vegetation. AANR-NW will provide table,
barbeque, plates, tableware, napkins, cold water, sugar free lemonade,
burgers, hot dogs and trimmings and some dessert snacks. We will have a
canopy if the weather is less than perfect. For your security, please do
not leave any items visible in your car. The only restrooms accessible from
the nude beach are located near the parking area.

Sunday, September 22 – Sauvie Island-Collins Beach – clean-up at noon. A
parking pass is usually required and can be purchased at the store or deli
after crossing the bridge to the island but SOLVE again is providing free
day-of-event passes for those that volunteer. Restrooms are portable toilets
located in the parking area near the beach trail openings. We will
concentrate our efforts on the gravel road parking area and litter sweeps of
the beach area from nude beach opening one (number two marked opening) to
the opening marked number six. Meet on the beach near the second nude beach
opening (number 3 opening). A potluck will be held at around 2:00 p.m.
Hidden Springs non-landed club is sponsoring this event and will supply a
barbeque, hamburgers, hot dogs and fixings, water, sugar free lemonade,
plates, tableware, napkins as well as a table and canopy. Bring a folding
chair/towel to sit on and dry off with as well as a potluck item and your
favorite beverage.

We need additional volunteers at these events so that we can retain our
beach sponsorship. These legal nude beaches are unique to Oregon and we
want to continue to keep our beaches bare!!

The AANR Convention took place two weeks ago. Each year awards are presented and representatives from the Northwest did very well this year.

For performing distinguished and meritorious services to AANR, both our own Pat Brown and Theresa “T” Price’s mom Bev received the President’s Meritorious Service Award.

And then there is Mike Parker and Hidden Springs.
I wonder if Mike would let us publish a copy of his award winning original article “Nudism and Science Fiction”. I’d love to read it.

Hidden Springs also won the Schofield Award, which is given to the nonlanded club that accumulates and documents the most mileage on visits to landed clubs.
And Hidden Springs with editor Mike Parker won the Iisley Boone Newletter Award for best newsletter in their club size (50-100 members).

** Nudist Rights

At the AANR convention we discussed the need to change our focus. Although AANR is involved in public relations, support for clubs, sponsoring events, etc., our main task has always been to protect our right to be nude in appropriate places. We accomplish this by monitoring and responding to potential legislative challenges, proposing changes in the laws, lobbying for public lands, aiding individuals involved in custody cases, etc.

However, our members and the public may not be aware of the extent of these activities and accomplishments. We have started investigating the reasons for this, one of which may be that we do not adequately explain the legislative threats and the actions AANR takes to forestall passage of the bills. We are working on ways to address this.

At this point nothing definite is being proposed. The next step will be to form a committee. Stay tuned.

The 2015 AANR Convention was awarded to Sun Meadow Resort. This will be a great opportunity for us to show off our Northwest hospitality and get to enjoy a convention nearby. The theme is Surf City.

** BREAKING NEWS

At the AANR convention there is a proposal to change the name of our organization. Since our major purpose is advocacy: protection of our right to go nude in appropriate places, the name, American Association for Nude Recreation, does not adequately state what we are about. One proposal is that we change our name to American Association for Nudist Rights. A major advantage of this name change is that we would retain the initials AANR.
After this meeting the staff will research the legal requirements, internet domain names, etc. The intention is prepare a motion for the 2014 membership ballot. Please visit the AANR website to comment on this proposal.

The 82nd annual AANR convention will be at DeAnza Springs, in Southern Ca, from Aug 13 – Aug 19. AANR Secretary/Treasurer Sharon McLeod, AANR Member Trustee Kathy Smith, AANR Club Trustee Mike Parker and AANR-NW President Karen Lahey will be among the North Westerners participating in the meetings. You are encouraged to come to the convention and join the fun. Deanza Springs is situated on more than 500 acres of high desert (at 2600 feet) in Eastern San Diego County.

The weather did us in this time. With only 2/3 of the clubs reporting, it looks like we will not be breaking the World Record for Skinny Dipping. Weather shut down several of the large venues. So maybe next time. But, the AANR pr committee is looking for ideas about events that would be fun and get us some publicity. Can/Am Nudefest – Part 2

At the end of May, AANR-NW hosted the first part of the CanAm Nudefest
at Sun Meadow Resort. The floods cut down on attendance from the North,
but we had a lot of fun and wonderful entertainment.
Now it is time for us to go North and visit with our friends at
AANR-WC. We have been invited to Sunny Chinooks, 90 minutes northwest
of Calgary, AB on August 10-11. We are asked to call to confirm
attendance and get driving instructions. (403) 273-8166. The website
is www.sunnychinooks.com.

The festivities on Saturday include sports at 2:30pm and a special
dinner followed by a dance. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

AANR-NW August, 2013 Rooster Rock/Sauvie Island Nude Beach
Clean-ups

AANR-NW has continued to be a beach adopter for the two legal nude
beaches in northwest Oregon as well as adopting Rooster Rock State Park.
As such, two beach litter clean-ups must be scheduled each year to
fulfill the agreement. The last two years, the water was extremely high
for the first one, to the point that even the trails were under water.
This year, the events have been scheduled later in the summer so that
there is absolutely no chance of that happening. The first set of
cleanups are scheduled for August 3-4. The second set are on September
21-22.

AANR-NW AUGUST ROOSTER ROCK/SAUVIE ISLAND NUDE BEACH CLEAN-UPS – Update

As an update to the below article, a free Sauvie Island parking pass is available for volunteers for the day of the clean-up. Contact GAT@aanr-nw.org to get one e-mailed to you. AANR-NW AUGUST, 2013 ROOSTER ROCK/SAUVIE ISLAND NUDE BEACH CLEAN-UPS AANR-NW has continued to be a beach adopter for the two legal nude beaches in northwest Oregon as well as adopting Rooster Rock State Park. As such, two beach litter clean-ups must be scheduled each year to fulfill the agreement. The last two years, the water was extremely high for the first one, to the point that even the trails were under water. This year, the events have been scheduled later in the summer so that there is absolutely no chance of that happening. Saturday, August 3 at 9:00 a.m. at Rooster Rock State Park. This is a clothing optional event, if you are cleaning in the nude area. It is highly suggested that you wear shoes and sun screen at all clean-ups. Hats are also recommended if it is very bright. Bring work gloves if you have them. All tools and clean-up bags will be furnished. We will be working with the Rooster Rock park staff. The Park Ranger Supervisor will have a list of projects that includes light to heavy work. Volunteers do not have to pay the day use fee. Tell the person in the registration booth that you are there for the AANR-NW clean-up. When registering, you will receive a card to put in your window. Meet at the east end of the parking lot near the restrooms. This should not last longer than around three hours, and will be followed by a hot dog barbeque at the picnic table just into the official nude beach area. AANR-NW will provide cold water, sugar free lemonade, meat and veggie hot dogs and trimmings and some dessert snacks. Please do not leave any items visible in your car. The only restrooms accessible from the nude beach are located near the parking area. Sunday, August 4 – Sauvie Island-Collins Beach – clean-up at 1:00 p.m. – A parking pass is usually required and can be purchased at the store or deli after crossing the bridge to the island. SOLVE is again working to provide us day-of-event passes for those that volunteer. Portable restrooms are located in the parking area at each trailhead. We will concentrate our efforts on the gravel road parking area, the five trails to the nude beach and litter sweeps of the beach area. Meet on the beach near the second nude beach opening (entrance number 3). There should be a canopy set up there. A potluck meal will be held at around 3:00 p.m. Plates and tableware will be provided as well as some bottled drinking water and sugar free lemonade drink. Please consider assisting at these events. Volunteers are always welcome. Contact gat@aanr-nw.org for directions and further details on these events and to request a day-of-event Collins Beach parking pass. There will be a repeat of the clean-ups on September 21 and 22 to fulfill the nude beach adoption agreement for this year.
