Nude showing at next Playwright's Theater Production
We have been contacted by the artistic director from Playwright's Theater, which did the very popular "To the Naked Eye" last June. Their next production is "Tiny Tim is Dead" and they are willing to have a nude showing night. The play doesn't address nudism, but it is a great venue for us to get together for nude event. We will need to buy out the theater since it has nothing to do with nudity. But I think we will be able to do it. Only 87 seats will be available. We need a count of who is interested and what nights won't work for you. (send email to president@aanr-nw.org) He has proposed one evening of Dec 10, 11 or 12th. The synopsis of the play is:
On a frigid Christmas Eve amidst cardboard shelters and trashcan hearths, five adults and a mute boy band together and give the only gift they can offer. “A Christmas Carol,” as enacted by this ragtag group of vagrants who themselves might ask only for a little heat, leftover food and mittens. This irregular holiday tale is wickedly amusing and delicately poignant as it takes a wry and ironic look at a group of homeless people who form an unconventional family, related not by race, class or education, but by the same circumstances life has found them.

Partial Solar Eclipse
by Margie Cantlon
An eclipse of the sun happens when the moon moves in front of the sun and partially or completely blocks the sun from view. This eclipse will be partial – the moon does not completely cover the sun, but instead seems to “take a bite out of it.” The size of the bite depends on where you are. At Sun Meadow, the eclipse begins at 2:09 pm when the moon begins to move in front of the sun. The sun is then 1/3 of the way up the southwestern sky. A few minutes later people with properly-filtered telescopes will see a “bite” taken out of the right side of the sun. This bite grows slowly larger over the next 80 minutes until at 3:29 the moon covers almost half of the sun, and this is maximum eclipse. The moon then begins to move off the face of the sun, covering less of it minute-by-minute until 4:41 when the eclipse ends.
The sun will grow slightly darker during the eclipse, but not enough to notice. Even when eclipsed the sun is far too bright to look at without proper filters. Number 14 welders filters will work well, as will specially made Mylar and glass solar filters which can be purchased commercially. Fortunately for us, John Mosley has sent us a “sun peep,” which is a “safe eclipse viewer.” We can pass the thing around so we can all get a look at the eclipse.
In parts of region that are further west, the eclipse starts earlier. In points east, the eclipse starts later. Please check your local news for details. Or there is a schedule at http://www.vercalendario.info/en/moon/united_states-23-october-2014.html. And be sure to protect your eyes. Handy hints can be found at http://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/eclipse-tips-safety.html

AANR-NW Wants You!!
In the past months, we have asked for help in various endeavors. AANR-NW is a volunteer organization. There are lots of ways to help.
If you are a lawyer, or you know a lawyer, or can suggest a lawyer that would be willing to represent nudists and their rights to be nude, please send a note to president@aanr-nw.org. We are looking to build a network of lawyers so that if any Northwest Nudists run into a legal battle, we will be able to refer them to lawyers in their state. This is not for pro-bono work.
Various clubs, as well as the nudist libraries, have 8mm and 16mm film that they want to convert to digital. Do you have any suggestions of a lab that can do this conversion but would not have a problem with the family oriented nudity in them? If so, please drop a note to president@aanr-nw.org.
If you haven’t connected your amazon account @ smile.amazon.com to the AANR Education Foundation, please go to smile.amazon.com and search for AANR Education Foundation and add them as your charity. Once you have done this, whenever you start your shopping at smile.amazon.com, Amazon will donate .5% of the purchase price on most items to the cause of education and social nudism.
The Northwest Nude News needs content. If you have ideas for news or other articles, please send them to president@aanr-nw.org . Also, please send us your story about how or why you are a nudist for our continuing feature.
The AANR Bulletin is also looking for story contributions. If you have a story or an idea for a story , please send it on to bulletinads@aanr.com. Pictures are also needed, but you will need a signed AANR photo release for anyone that is recognizable in the photo.
GAT (Government Affairs Team) needs everyone to pay attention to what is going on in your community. If you find out about an issue that may affect social nudism, please send a note to gat-chair@aanr-nw.org. It is far better that the GAT hear about the same thing multiple times than for them to never hear about it. GAT is also looking for state chairs for Washington and Montana. There will be GAT training sessions at the AANR-NW Spring Board meeting in April at Squaw Mountain, as well as at the AANR-NW Convention in July at Fraternity Snoqualmie. For more information, please contact gat-chair@aanr-nw.org

Fire near Squaw Mountain Ranch
The 36 Pit Fire, which started last Saturday at about 3pm, is still burning near Squaw Mountain. Earlier in the week, the park was evacuated, but the evacuation order has been lifted and this weekend’s activities are still on. According to Squaw Mountain President, “Tell everyone, Thank You for the concern about this fire situation. SMR has been fortunate and continues to hope for a fast ending to this threat. There won’t be final news for quite a few days according to the sources I’ve heard”

Potential Topeka (KS) Anti-Nudity Law
A few weeks ago, a man was observed walking naked along a road in a sparsely populated portion of Topeka. It was a relatively slow news day, and a local TV station featured the story. CNN picked up the “news,” which included a brief interview with the Shawnee County sheriff. The sheriff advised that no state or local law prevents public nudity, unless it’s done with sexual intent, and that was apparently not the case in this instance.
In response, local lawmakers are trying to create such a law. A Topeka city council member
filed a proposed ordinance. It will be considered at the September 23 meeting of the council.
In Topeka, an ordinance must be presented twice before a vote is taken. It is too early to tell what the outcome will be. NAC is following the case, and is urging Topeka and Kansas residents to attend the council meeting.

Restrooms are portable toilets located in the parking area near the beach trail openings. We will concentrate our efforts on the gravel road parking area and litter sweeps of the beach area from the first Collins nude beach opening (number two marked opening) to the opening marked number six. This event is last around two hours.
These clean-ups are a good way for us to let the public know about our community involvement. We are doing these in conjunction with SOLVE and the Oregon state parks department .sign-ups on the SOLVE website areas now in place: http://www.solv.org/get-involved/events/rooster-rock-nude-beach-cleanup and http://www.solv.org/get-involved/events/collins-beach-cleanup .
Saturday, September 27 is National Public Lands day. We need additional volunteers at these events so that we can retain our beach sponsorship. These legal nude beaches are unique to Oregon and we want to continue to keep our beaches bare!!

Why I Am a Nudist
I was married in 1970, and my new husband and I spent most of our alone time nude. The atmosphere was exactly as I later found nudist clubs to be: very comfortable and relaxing. It was new to me, and I thought it was wonderful. When the military and then children came into our lives, we put on our clothes.
In 1973 we moved to Bloomington, Indiana, and I read a newspaper article about a nearby nudist club. I had never attended one, but somehow I knew it would be safe, wholesome, and relaxing. But my then husband adamantly refused to consider visiting the club, so I figured nude recreation was something I would never experience.
In 1987 we divorced, and in 1991 an old college friend contacted me. This was Chas, whom I married in 1993. During one of our early phone conversations (I was in San Diego and he was in Montana), he divulged that he was a die-hard nudist. I was thrilled to find out that bit of information, because it meant that the world of nude recreation was about to open to me.
I visited Kaniksu Ranch with Chas in 1992, and it was exactly as I had always expected it to be. I felt safe and comfortable, and that feeling has never left, except once when I went to a club that welcomed swingers. This is home for me.
