Sun Meadow Resort Community Gathers to Celebrate Easter

 by Margie Cantlon

The 15th annual Easter celebration at Sun Meadow resort was a joyful gathering of the Sun Meadow community, led by Margie Cantlon and Terri Capshaw.  Those gathered shared songs and inspirational messages, accompanied by AANR-NW President Dave Smith on guitar and autoharp, and Kathy Smith, AANR Member Trustee for the Northwest Region, on piano.

Messages of grace resonated, and it was especially poignant for the nudist community.  Grace means letting go of what doesn’t matter and focusing on what does, and when nudists shed their clothes, status falls away, and the community gets down to what is important: how we serve one another and make each other’s lives more meaningful.   It takes grace for different people to live together, and the nudist community is a place where all people can find acceptance.

Guests visiting Sun Meadow resort for the first time often remark that what stands out for them is the sense of community they feel.  This is what most people at nudist communities experience.  It takes community to make it work.  Political leaning, sexual preference, religious affiliation, profession, etc. become immaterial in the nudist environment.

Kathy Smith tells of her first nudist experience at Kaniksu Ranch, where she had a tour, and then took off her clothes.  The breeze on her skin and the friendly people at the pool made her feel so comfortable and welcome that she has been an active member of the nudist community ever since that day.  This is not an unusual experience.

The bottom line is that nudists are nice people, and it takes nice people to build a meaningful community.

Week of Nude Day Hikes This July

From Steve and Crystal Bosbach  stevebosbach@gmail.com
    Siskiyou Hiking Bares

I am announcing our first annual week of nude day hikes to take place this coming July 23-29, with Squaw Mt. Ranch as our base camp.  We have been running a nude hiking Meetup group for the past couple of years (http://www.meetup.com/Siskiyou-Hiking-Bares/), described in N magazine issue 35.2.  An article about the Nude European Walking Tour 2016, which this event is modeled on is reviewed in a recent issue of the AANR Bulletin.

We are a GO for this meet up! I have arranged with Squaw Mt. Ranch just east of Estacada, OR to host this meetup by providing a place for us to camp. They have also agreed to provide food service of supper and possibly breakfast as well. Camping and food, including grounds use for $30- $35 per day, with the exact amount determined after we have a final head count. I think this is a great deal. The lodge will also be available for our group, with a few rooms available for sleeping, some floor space and kitchen facilities.
The Hiking Tour will consist of five day hikes, using Squaw Mountain Ranch Nude Resort as our base of the tour.  This hiking tour is patterned after the Nude European Walking Tour which takes place each summer in Germany or Austria.
I still have details to work out with Squaw Ranch about meals, but we are definitely going to do this!  There are some great hikes in the area, as well as a hike in to Bagby Hot Springs on one of the days.  This will be a bucket list vacation you will want to do at least once.  On the NEWT in Austria, most of the participants were returning from previous years, the experience is that great.
I will need to hear from participants as soon as possible.  I’m running this event mostly at cost, with $10.00 of the fees going to support the meetup site.  All the rest of the fees are for food and camping / lodging at Squaw Ranch.  Folks can bring food for lunches and keep it in the lodge refrigerator, or arrange for box lunches made by Squaw Ranch.  This would be additional cost, but wouldn’t amount to much.  Total for the week, from Sun. evening to Sat. morning should be no more than $205.00.  To hold a spot on the list of participants, I will need to get a payment via check or paypal for $100.00.  I will accept payment until our roster of 30 participants is full or up to June 25th.   Refunds will be offered up to June 25th.  Those wishing to join the tour after June 25th will be considered on a space available basis and will be up to Squaw Mt. Ranch.  Contact me through the meetup site (you will need to join the site) and we will communicate via email for payment arrangements.  The balance of $105.00 will be due on site the day of arrival.
If you are coming from another state by plane and need space in the lodge, let me know ahead of time so we can reserve your space.   Squaw Mt. Ranch has generously offered the use of the lodge, which is included in the per day fee paid by participants.  There are three bedrooms in the lodge, one with 1 double bed and 2 with 2 double beds.  First come, first served on reserving space in the lodge. Estacada is only about an hour from Portland, maybe hour and a half from PDX, so it is possible to fly out to Portland and rent a car to the event.   I would encourage networking to share rides and cost.
I am very excited about this first annual Hiking Oregon Naturally Annual Tour and hope this is the start of many more annual tours.

Jason Farnham Piano Concert April 22 at Sun Meadow

This concert will be a fun one. Jason Farnham is not only an accomplished professional touring pianist, but he’s also a lot of fun! Jason Farnham of San Francisco Bay, CA is truly the “International Entertainer of Contemporary Piano Music”. Fans have affectionately dubbed him “Schroeder” from Peanuts because of his toy piano, his witty Victor Borge-style piano comedy antics and the clever way he interacts with the audience. The newest addition to his piano show has become his staple track: Fur Elise with a techno-rock beat: “Fur Crying Out Loud Elise, Let’s Dance!” And Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Rondo Alla Turca has now become “Rondo Alla Techno”. Fans of Mannheim Steamroller and rich piano instrumentals will find much to love here. Jason Farnham is a first-class entertainer, and his show is sure to leave the audience smiling. Here are a few photos to give an idea of what to expect: Kathy Parsons of MainlyPiano.com says, “Think Schroeder from Peanuts meets George Winston meets Victor Borge meets a guy who makes techno remixes out of classical tunes.

Deadlines for the AANR-NW Honor Awards Extended to May 1st.

The AANR-NW Board has voted unanimously to change the deadline for the Man/Woman of the Year and the Hall of Fame Awards to May 1st. This change has been made retroactively, so that it takes effect immediately, even though the forms on the AANR-NW website have not yet been changed.  So please go to https://aanr-nw.org/for-members-only/awards/hall-of-fame/  and  https://aanr-nw.org/for-members-only/awards/man-and-woman-of-the-year/. to nominate those volunteers that have gone beyond the norm during the past year.  But do it now, there is still less than a month to get the forms completed.  The Man of the Year and Woman of the Year have also been renamed Member of the Year, with up to two awards each year.
