Nudist Bill of Rights

As law-abiding citizens who are friends of nudism, including many
members of the American Association for Nude Recreation, we proudly
affirm that we have and are entitled to exercise the following rights.
These are self-evident and based on the Constitutions of the United
States and Canada, the laws of those countries, and their court rulings.

* Nudists have the right to hold their values and beliefs.
* Nudists have the right to petition and be heard by their governments.
* Nudists have the right to responsibly enjoy nudity within their
homes and on private property.
* Nudists have the right to exercise decision-making in the upbringing
of their families in a manner consistent with their beliefs and
without interference from others.
* Nudists have the right to assemble in the nude within appropriate
settings.
* Nudists have the right to decisions about what constitutes
acceptable nudity to be made free from considerations of age,
gender, marital status, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, or sexual
orientation.
* Nudists have the right to responsibly enjoy being nude within
appropriate locations on public lands.
* Nudists have the right to be free from adverse actions by their
employers as a result of their lawful enjoyment of nudity when away
from work.
* Nudists have the right to experience accurate, life-affirming
portrayals of the human body in all its stages as depicted in the
performing arts, the fine arts, literature, and human history.
* Nudists have the right to be treated as law-abiding citizens.

You can add your name to show your support of these rights on the

Nudism and Science Fiction – by Mike Parker

Reprinted from the WellSpring

In the early 1960’s, the late Forrest J (Forry) Ackerman
,
nudist and penultimate science fiction fan (he won a HUGO award in 1953
for #1 Fan Personality), wrote an article in a nudist magazine with the
above title. Ackerman was the editor of Famous Monsters of Filmland and
coiner of the abbreviated term “sci-fi”.
Some years back, your editor met Ackerman as well as famed authorRobert
L. Heinlein,

writer of far more than one book where nudity was featured. A rumor was
going around for years that Heinlein had been an early member of the
club now known as Mountain Air Ranch, which is the second oldest club in
the west. Subsequent to his death, we sent a query to his widow and
his estate agent asking if this was true. We received no answer. The
answer did come out recently in Heinlein’s posthumous biography,
published after the death of his widow, Virginia Heinlein, not long
ago. It acknowledged, in print, that Heinlein was indeed an early
member of that club. Did our request prompt this posthumous admission?
Perhaps.
Other major science fiction authors also have been nudists and some of
them were (and are) also members of our organization. Privacy concerns
prevent the release of their names.
Nudity was prominently featured in the late Phillip Jose Farmer
’s
Riverworld

series, where each reincarnated person from Earth awoke as a young adult
and nude along the classic book series’ seemingly endless winding
river. Each time they died, they awoke in the same state, nude again,
still farther down the river.
Here is an on-line location where classic science fiction books are
reviewed by nudists:
http://io9.com/5889724/classic-science-fiction-novels-reviewed-by-nudists
. Another such location is: http://www.naturistplace.com/nudesf.htm

In space, no one can hear you scream and it definitely is too cold to
undress, but, inside the fictional literary space ships, perhaps they
truly were going where no one had gone before. And with nothing to wear!

Serious Landslide at Wreck Beach

On Sunday, October 13th just after 2:00pm PDT, a serious landslide
turned Trail 5 from Northwest Marine Drive to Wreck beach into a sheer
cliff dropping 180m to the beach. Luckily, no one is known to be hurt.
The trail is closed because it is still an active slide area. This
trail has been closed for over 10 years, is not on trail maps, and is
not the main access to the beach.

Nudist Rights

At the AANR-NW fall board meeting (9/28-29/2013), the board decided to
explore means to better inform our members and the public on the efforts
that AANR and AANR-NW make on behalf of nudist rights. The preliminary
focus will be on providing short articles on significant nudist rights
issues in the weekly eNews and other AANR-NW publications. These
articles may include news items, links to other publications or
websites, and pending legislation at federal, state or local levels.
Assistance would be appreciated. If you see any related news items
please forward the information to the committee:

Beach Cleanups Redux

The rescheduled beach cleanups are this weekend.
—- from an earlier post
The first rescheduled AANR-NW beach clean-up will be on Saturday,
October 5 at 9:00 a.m. at Rooster Rock State Park
.
This is a clothing optional event, if you are cleaning in the nude
area. It is highly suggested that you wear shoes and sun screen. Hats
are also recommended if it is very bright. Bring work gloves if you
have them. All tools and clean-up bags will be furnished. We will be
working with the Rooster Rock park staff. The Park Ranger Supervisor
will have a list of projects that includes light to heavy work.
Volunteers do not have to pay the day use fee. Tell the person in the
registration booth, if it is manned, that you are there for the
clean-up. When registering for the clean-up, you will receive a card to
put in your window. MEETING LOCATION CHANGE: Because of a cross country
event at the east end of the parking lot that morning, meet instead at
the office near the entrance. The clean-up should not last longer than
around three hours, and will be followed by a hamburger/hot dog barbeque
out on the beach where the main trail comes through the vegetation.
AANR-NW will provide table, barbeque, plates, tableware, napkins, cold
water, sugar free lemonade, burgers, hot dogs and trimmings and some
dessert snacks. The only restrooms accessible from the nude beach are
located near the parking area.
Sunday, October 6 -Sauvie Island-Collins Beach

– clean-up at noon. A parking pass is usually required and can be
purchased at the store or deli after crossing the bridge to the island
but SOLVE again is providing free day-of-event passes for those that
volunteer. Restrooms are portable toilets located in the parking area
near the beach trail openings. We will concentrate our efforts on the
gravel road parking area and litter sweeps of the beach area from nude
beach opening one (number two marked opening) to the opening marked
number six. Meet on the beach near the second nude beach opening (number
3 opening). A potluck will be held at around 2:00 p.m. AANR-NW

will supply a barbeque, hamburgers, hot dogs and fixings, water, sugar
free lemonade, plates, tableware, napkins as well as a table and
covering canopy. Bring a folding chair/towel to sit on and dry off with
as well as a potluck item and your favorite beverage.
For your security, please do not leave any items visible in your vehicle.
We need additional volunteers at these events so that we can retain our
beach sponsorship. These legal nude beaches are unique to Oregon and we
want to continue to keep our beaches bare!!
Want to volunteer but need more info? Contact gat@aanr-nw.org for
directions, further details on these events and how to get a
complimentary Collins Beach parking pass e-mailed.
