”The AANR Largest Skinny-Dip Across North America”

Glassbar Island Nude Beach Volunteers (GINBV) invite you to the island on July 11 to participate in the first ever AANR Skinny Dip. The Guinness World Records Organization has just created a new category for the largest number of people simultaneously skinny-dipping, and the American Association for Nude Recreation (www.aanr.com) is the contract association for this record-setting event. You won’t want to miss this event!

Registration will start at 10am at the front part of the island. As stated in the rules all participants to be counted must be completely nude during the skinny-dip. HOWEVER, you may enter the water, take off your suit and hold it above your head! Shy… no problem we can accommodate.

Everyone participating must sign at the time of registration a photo release allowing the photo to be used on www.glassbarisland.org and AANR affiliated publications. CAMERA SHY….NO PROBLEM simply enter the water, take off your suit, turn your back to the camera and hold your suit above your head! Photographs of children (under 18 years of age) will only be taken with parents(s) or grandparents in the picture. Parent or legal guardian must sign an AANR photo release form on behalf of minor children.

Glassbar Island State Park is located just outside the city limits of the Eugene/Springfield. Whether coming from the north or the south take the 30th St/ Lane Community College exit. If you approach from the south, simply go forward at the stop sign to the first street on the other side of the Shell Station. Turn right and go about ¼ miles. Park on the road making sure your wheels are 3 feet from the white line. Once you reach the yellow gate follow the signs to the island and skinny dip registration area.

Check out www.glassbarisland.org for further information contact glassbarisland@yahoo.com.

AANR Mourns the Loss of a Member and Good Friend

This week we were saddened to hear of the passing of K Mathesius. Those of you who have been active in the Association’s leadership for some time may recall that K was the Secretary of the Eastern Sunbathing Association for many years and was a much loved and respected supporter of AANR all her life. According to Susan Weaver, she lived at White Thorn and spent winters at Sunsport with her partner of the last few years, Tex.

One saying of K’s was that she often pronounced “AANR” with a soft “a”
sound, so it rhymed with “honor.” She used this pronunciation because she
said it was an “honor to belong to AANR.”

With Many Thanks for Your Quick Response

Yesterday we distributed an e-mail to all clubs asking for information relating to whether your club is adjacent to any federal lands managed by the U.S. Forest Service or Bureau of Land Management. Steve Hubbard, AANR Public Lands Liaison, and I would personally like to thank the many of you who responded so quickly with information. This will be very helpful as we prepare for visits to Washington, D.C., in just over one week.

AANR Helping Members

On Thursday, AANR Club/Member Liaison Terry Justice and I worked with a husband and wife who are members of AANR/AANR-Northwest. They have been threatened with “legal hassles” by an ex spouse should they continue to attend clubs or practice any nudity in the presence of their daughter. We have provided written information and discussed legal scenarios with the couple.

MUZAK Update

Those who telephone our offices at 1-800-TRY-NUDE will hear an all-new Muzak greeting if placed on hold. Set to beach music, the message announces the world record skinny-dip event, provides dates of upcoming summer conventions, and a pitch to join or renew membership.

See You in the Funny Pages

Yesterday’s Beetle Bailey comic strip depicted America’s favorite soldier and an army buddy standing near a sign announcing a nude beach. While Beetle states that he would prefer to look for a “spectator’s section,” his friend has doffed his shorts and is ready to join in by the second panel. The online site for this comic lags several weeks behind print content so we are not yet able to provide a link, but perhaps you can check a day-old copy.

If you’re like me, you welcome such developments. As more people are introduced to the concept of nude recreation–whether by hearing about the World Record Skinny-Dip or by reading the funnies at their breakfast table–it helps to create a more receptive audience for our message.

E-Mail Trouble Continues-But on a Smaller Scale

Our webmaster has changed servers, so our IP address had to be changed. Although many providers now recognize our new address, there are still some e-mails that are being kicked back. Please let your friends and clubs know about this problem in case they don’t receive this e-mailed report.

The inbound e-mails are working just fine.

Linda Berry, Director of Publications

Message Boards

The AANR message boards have reopened after a renovation. New features include heightened security and a slightly different interface that will make the new boards more user-friendly.

Log in to the Member Benefits section of aanr.com, click on Message Boards in the left margin and start connecting with other AANR members.

May 28 Edition of the E-Bulletin

More than 13,200 subscribers read about an opportunity to bid on Sunshine Park, the historic nudist landmark in New Jersey. Not a subscriber? Sign up now at www.aanr.com .

The Alltogether

AANR’s blog at http://blog.aanr.com/ is gaining in popularity. Desert Sun in California was the first club to purchase ad space on the blog, but there are more slots available. Contact Martha Young at bulletinads {at} aanr.com for details.

The Cyber-Bulletin

A great advertising spot has become available on the Cyber-Bulletin. Visit the link to see the site at http://www.aanr.com/cyber_bulletin.html . Contact Martha Young at bulletinads {at} aanr.com for pricing.

Prime Space Available in The Bulletin

Your club or business will definitely get noticed if it has a two-page spread ad in The Bulletin. The center spread is now available for a price you can’t refuse. Call Martha Young at 800/879-6833, ext. 228 for more information.

Only One Space Available

Every person or couple who joins AANR or renews their membership receives a set of coupons with special offers for members only. There is one coupon space available for YOUR OFFER. Contact Martha Young at bulletinads {at} aanr.com for details. It will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis so don’t delay.

Terry Justice, Club/Member Liaison

Public Indecency Addressed at Rooster Rock State Park
Submitted by Shirley Gauthier, AANR-NW Public Lands Liaison

SOLV’s “Down By The Riverside” event provided an educational opportunity for Oregon State Park staff, law enforcement, and AANR volunteers to address public indecency concerns. Rooster-Sauvie Volunteers, a newly formed 100% AANR club, hosted the 14th annual SOLV event.

A Rooster Rock State Park Safety meeting held in 2008 and organized by Park Ranger Lisa Midlam contributed to the creation of a sign advising beach users of indecency laws and the introduction of a visitor beach card. This meeting included law enforcement officers (state police and Multnomah County Sheriff agencies), state park staff, and AANR members, and addressed public indecency concerns.

The sign and beach cards introduced at the cleanup welcome beach visitors, cite the Oregon State Law on public indecency and make it easy to report illegal or inappropriate behaviors by providing phone numbers for the Multnomah County Sheriff, Oregon State Police, and the Rooster Rock State Park Managers.

Multnomah County Sheriff Deputy Bryan White presented information specifically addressing Public Indecency. Deputy White explained the law and how visitors can assist law enforcement. Deputy White made it clear that illegal or sexual behavior will not be tolerated.

AANR is proud to partner with SOLV (http://www.solv.org/ ) and appreciated SOLV Business Manager Denise Smith attending and taking the group photo. Thanks to Laurel MacMillan of Rural Development Initiatives (RDI) for attending. RDI (http://www.rdiinc.org/) is a private non-profit organization.

A special thanks to the SOLV staff, Multnomah County Sheriff Deputy Bryan White, Rooster Rock State Park Rangers Mark Stevenson, Lisa Midlam, Glenn Littrell, John Cowan, David Bjorge, Cassie Bostrom, and Gorge District Manager Kevin Price.

AANR dues-paying members who volunteer their time, energy, and finances are the driving force to promoting and preserving nude recreation. If you missed this event join the Rooster-Sauvie Volunteers Club, August 1-2, for the AANR beach cleanup weekend at Rooster Rock-Mountaindale Sun Resort (mountaindalesun.com) and Sauvie Island. Contact rooster.sauvie {at} yahoo.com for details.

Glassbar Island State Park – Cleanup Report for 5/16/09
Submitted by Shirley Gauthier, AANR-NW Public Lands Liaison

Glassbar Island State Park near Eugene, Oregon, became even more user group friendly at the annual SOLV “Down By The Riverside” cleanup on May 16th. A porta-potty was installed near the nude beach area of the clothing-optional state park. This is huge history making news for user groups. Do take the time to do the porta-potty happy dance.

Glassbar Island Nude Beach Volunteers (GINBV) a 100% AANR club registered 29 volunteers. Chris Orsinger, Executive Director Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah, shared that “we were glad to lend a hand with habitat enhancement and cleanup at Glassbar Island. We look forward to collaborating in the future to advance habitat enhancement, especially floodplain restoration work that would improve aquatic habitat and water quality.” Rick Hammond GINBV Webmaster and cleanup photographer said, “I have never seen such a diverse group at the park as I have this year on sunny days.”

Volunteers removed invasive species, planted six different wildflowers, completed litter patrols, and cleaned land belonging to the state and county. GINBV President David Rosenblatt asked that a special thanks be given to the SOLV, Oregon State Park Dept., Lane County Waste Dept., Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah, AANR-NW for providing the hotdog barbecue, and to GINBV members who have worked daily at the park for years.

Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director

The Bulletin Did It First

The New York Times said it would sell display advertising on its front page, its latest step to seek new ways to make money as it deals with a prolonged ad revenue downturn. Real all about it at: http://uk.reuters.com/article/marketsNewsUS/idUKN0536626720090105

Update on Wayne Roberts
Wayne was operated on this week, and will be in Providence Portland hospital for about 10 days. He is resting and on pain meds. His daughter, Debbie, is keeping a close eye on him. Our thoughts and prayers are with him for a speedy recovery. We will let you know as we learn more.

Committee Reports Due Monday
All AANR committee chairs are asked to submit their reports for distribution no later than Monday, January 12, 2009. Please e-mail them to Linda Berry at editor@aanr.com.

Linda Berry, Director of Publications
Last Chance
We have already had response from 26 AANR clubs who are offering a free day pass to expired associate, direct, and club members who reinstate their AANR membership. This is your last chance to take advantage of this marketing opportunity at no out-of-pocket cost to you. Simply e-mail Linda Berry at editor@aanr.com or call her at 800/TRY-NUDE, ext. 235, to be included.

AANR-Southwest Midwinter Board Meeting
There’s still time to attend the AANR-Southwest Board Meeting tomorrow at Natural Horisun in Boling, Texas. We apologize for the date being left out of the January issue of The Bulletin.

E-Bulletin
Wow, how time flies. It is hard to believe that the E-Bulletin is in its third year. The first issue was distributed in February 2007 to 8,866 members. It has been so well received, that the distribution has climbed to 12,487. Thanks, Lynn Von Hagel, for a job well done.

The Bulletin
We’re doing the final proof on the February issue today, and it goes to the printer on Monday.
CAROLYN HAWKINS, PUBLIC RELATIONS COORDINATOR

I would, however, like to take this opportunity to welcome John and Jill Frick, who are now the proud owners of Whispering Pines Nudist Resort in Ocean Isle Beach in North Carolina. Congratulations and welcome aboard, John and Jill.

Big Presidential Inaugural Event: FREE Exclusively on HBO

The Wall Street Journal reports that a high-profile event of the “people’s inauguration” will be aired exclusively on HBO. The premium cable channel has signed a deal with the Presidential Inaugural Committee to televise 90-minutes commercial-free from the “Opening Celebration” of Barack Obama’s inauguration. The event takes place at the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday, Jan. 18. Both Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden plan to attend. (The actual inauguration is two days later, on Jan. 20.) HBO will make the celebration available on an open signal, meaning everyone with cable or satellite service can watch it for free, whether or not they subscribe to HBO.
Polar Bare Dip At Rooster Rock Is Still On! – January 10th

Our friends, the park rangers, tell us that although the river levels are very high, we should have no problem getting to one of our usual “dipping spots” this Saturday, Jan. 10th at noon. It doesn’t look like snow will block our way, and so far the weather forecast is for sun and temps in the 50s – woohoo! Sounds like picnic weather. But we will be going to a local restaurant to defrost with hot food and drink. So join us for a nude welcome to the new year in the great outdoors.

Rooster Rock State Park is located on Interstate 84 in the Columbia Gorge, about 20 minutes east of Portland. Go to the east (right) end of the parking lot and you’ll find us near the bathroom building. Don’t be late–we start walking soon so we don’t lose our nerve!

Inaugural Weekend Nude Swim Near National Capital Region (Baltimore) – January 17th

Coming to Maryland-DC Area for Inaugural-Martin Luther King Weekend? MARNA’ s got an event for you on January 17. On this day, Barack Obama and Joe Biden will speak at a Pre-Inaugural Rally in Baltimore en-route to their swearing in. In attendance will be 100,000 local spectators. If you’re planning to attend, stick around a bit later for our monthly swim. Maryland Area Naturists Association (MARNA) presents:
Inaugural/Dr. Martin Luther King Weekend Swim at 6:30.

MARNA is a family-oriented nudist club renting a large pool and social hall that is a close drive to downtown Baltimore. Parties are held once a month. Join AANR’s lone club in Baltimore city or county. Call 410-949-5391 for more information.

Wishing You A Very Happy and Safe Holiday

Memorial Day weekend marks the traditional start of the summer season for many AANR clubs and we want to wish you the very best for a safe holiday with good weather.

We also wish to express our deepest thanks to the men and women who have served, or are currently serving, in the US and Canadian armed forces to protect the freedoms that we enjoy. We are grateful for your sacrifice and the sacrifices that your families have made.

In observance of the holiday our offices will be closed on Monday, May 26th.

My Thanks

Yesterday I returned to the office after being on the road with my family visiting my terminally ill father in Massachusetts. On the way back to Florida, we learned that my wife’s father had to be scheduled for emergency open heart surgery creating yet another crisis. I deeply appreciate the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support that so many of you passed along during this difficult time.

PR Opportunities

This week American Airlines announced that it plans to charge passengers $15 for the first checked bag on domestic flights beginning mid-June in an effort to respond to escalating fuel costs. Other carriers expressed likelihood that they would follow. Again seeing an opportunity for press coverage–and to inject a bit of levity for weary travelers–we began
distributing an updated “pack less relax more” media release.

In other PR news, a number of you wrote to us letting us know about a new commercial for Honda in which the driver and his teenage son “rescue” stranded nudist balloonists and offer them a lift home. While some of the humor is tongue-in-cheek and not all of the messaging is positive (there are expressions of embarrassment and discomfort) the advertising campaign also demonstrates that simple group nudity is a subject the company feels safe enough to air within America’s living rooms. If you would like to see the advertisement online, click here:

http://www.adgabber.com/video/video/show?id=546804%3AVideo%3A96213

(My thanks to Lynn von Hagel of publications for tracking down this link.)

As Lynn’s all-new edition of the E-Bulletin points out, there’s also an ice cream company advertising its low fat product with an invitation to “go skinny-dipping.”

San Onofre Beach Threatened

AANR is currently supporting efforts by the Friends of San Onofre Beach and the Naturist Action Committee to preserve the tradition of clothing-optional use of this beautiful beach in California following an announcement of plans by state authorities to prohibit nudity there effective this June. Yesterday Debra Sue prepared a CapWiz dispatch sent to nearly 8,000 subscribers explaining how to help and a rally on the beach is planned tomorrow. We appreciate this opportunity for all within the nudist and naturist community to come together in support of San Onofre.

Carolyn Hawkins, Public Relations Coordinator

We are still getting pick ups from The New York Times article as well as the Nakation pitch. We also sent out a press release regarding the cost of the baggage when flying “Don’t Know What To Do About the Cost of Extra Luggage on Your Next Flight?)

Steve and I set up a booth at the I-75 Welcome Center last weekend as part of our partnership with Visit Florida. This gives us a chance to educate folks visiting Florida and sharing information about the Florida clubs that may be near their destination.

Debra Sue Stevens, Government Affairs

Thank You Letter from Oregon Senator Vicki Walker who ran for Secretary of
State:

Dear American Association for Nude Recreation,

Before we close our campaign doors, I wanted to thank everyone for your generous support over the past several months. Unfortunately, big ideas did not triumph over big money in this campaign, but it was definitely not for a lack of hard work or support from all of you.

We were outspent 4 to 1, but I believe we made the most of our available resources. Amanda and Sara were incredible assets to the team, and everyone gave what you could to ensure Oregonians would have able and determined leadership in Salem. From endorsements to financial contributions, to letters to the editor, to distributing literature to your friends and neighbors — I am truly grateful for your tremendous support!

I am so proud of the campaign we ran! We had a good, strong message that resonated with people who heard me speak, and we used ideas like my Counting for Oregon plan as the fuel for our campaign. Ideas like campaign finance reform, accountability for corporate tax subsidies, meaningful and balanced initiative reform, building confidence in our electoral system, sound investments in our Common School Fund and wise trust land management. I will continue to work on these and many other issues in the months ahead, and you can always count on me to hold government and candidates accountable for the promises they make to the people of the state of Oregon.

I leave this race with the dignity and confidence with which I began. I have served my community well over the past decade, and I thank them for their overwhelming support in this election. And while I have not been given the opportunity to take my work to a larger platform, I am grateful for the years I have been able to give everyone a seat and a voice at the table.

Again, thank you for your support and I hope to see you all in the future!

Regards,
Vicki Walker

AANR-NW Participates “Down by the River”

Submitted by: Shirley Gauthier-Oregon GAT Chair

The Glassbar Island Nude Beach Volunteers (GINBV) www.glassbarisland.org hosted their first AANR affiliated SOLV “Down by the Riverside” event this year. Their first SOLV cleanup was on May 19, 2001. An article in the local paper listing the accomplishments of the event provided the numbers for the group to estimate they cleaned up 2% of the total removed from all of Oregon. AANR is fortunate that GINBV chose to affiliate with AANR and that they brought such a solid history of partnering with SOLV and the Oregon State Parks Department with them.

A recent fire at Glassbar left a portion of the area blackened. Paul Tollenaar, the Park Ranger for Southern Willamette Management Unit presented GINBV with twenty-five pounds of wild grass seed to replant the area.

Ranger Paul brought the huge dump truck and volunteers completed litter patrols, completed invasive species patrols, and completed trail maintenance.. Trail maintenance in the area involves removing a lot of blackberries. You might have to be an Oregonian nudist to vision the work that involves.

AANR-NW hosted “Down by the Riverside” at Rooster Rock State Park nude beach. Forty-one volunteers participated to complete litter patrols, work on invasive plant removal, transplant trees and complete train maintenance.

AANR volunteers traveled great distances to participate and fulfill the AANR adoption commitments. The expense of gasoline makes this a huge contribution that volunteers contribute along with their time and energy. A huge thanks you to you all.

Volunteers In The Gorge (VIG) ( www.volunteerinthegorge.org) who has a history of working with AANR-NW at Rooster Rock showed up in numbers to lend their efforts. VIG volunteer Jim barbecued over sixty hotdogs at the end of the workday. AANR-NW dues paying members paid for the hotdogs, buns, condiments, cookies and paper products. AANR promoting and supporting nude recreation on public lands in Oregon has contributed to our gain in membership. Promoting AANR on public lands has shown a positive increase to club membership in AANR-NW. AANR-NW Government Affairs Team values the time, energy and commitment from our AANR and AANR-NW dues paying members.

AANR Participates “Down by the Riverside”
Submitted by: Shirley Gauthier-Oregon GAT Chair

Down by the Riverside” is a statewide program organized by SOLV. If you were to go to the www.SOLV.org web site, you would read “SOLV is a non-profit organization that brings together government agencies, business and individual volunteers in programs and projects to enhance the livability of Oregon. Governor Tom McCall and other community leaders established SOLV in 1969 when they saw the need for community action to address growing problems in the every-growing state. They saw the need for community action to address growing problems in the ever-growing state. Today SOLV is building on their vision with a strategic plan that will guide us as we work to preserve this treasure called Oregon.”

The “Down By The Riverside” event was started in 1996 after record floods required a statewide event to organize much-needed volunteers.

This year on May 17 Down by the Riverside was exciting because SOLV collaborated with OPB and The Nature Conservancy and aired a documentary “The Silent Invaders” about invasive species this spring. Take Care of Oregon Day occurred simultaneously with Down By The Riverside and was coordinated by SOLV, Rural Initiatives, Inc. and Oregon Volunteers. AANR-NW has ordered three of the “The Silent Invaders” DVD’s provided by SOLV for a small fee to provide to our volunteers.

Currently AANR-NW holds the Adopt-A-River adoptions for Sauvie Island Nude Beach and Rooster Rock Nude Beach. Glassbar Island Nude Beach Volunteers a newly affiliated AANR non-landed club holds the SOLV adoption for Glassbar Island Nude Beach. Oregon is well represented by AANR by partnering with SOLV and their adoption programs.

Ranger Paul brought the huge dump truck and volunteers completed litter patrols, completed invasive species patrols, and completed trail maintenance. Trail maintenance in the area involves removing a lot of blackberries. You might have to be an Oregonian nudist to vision the work that involves.

Rick Hammond GINBV’s webmaster mentioned that temperatures in the nineties brought out a very diverse group to the area on cleanup day. GINBV President David Rosenblatt said “because we do work projects everyday on SOLV day each member has their own area they go work on and needed no directions to get started for the day.” Doug Dane said, “New people who participated in the end of the day barbecue were welcomed by GINBV.”

Rachael Pecore of Columbia River Keeper’s (CRK) ( www.columbiariverkeeper.org) posted our AANR beach event in their newsletter that contributed to our volunteer numbers. Columbia Riverkeepr’s mission is to restore and protect the water quality of the Columbia River and all life connected to it, from the headwaters to the Pacific Ocean. “Friend of AANR” Mark Buchweitz attended the CRK adoption training and adopted Sauvie Island and Rooster Rock through the Columbia River Keeper adoption plan. We value our partnership with CRK and appreciate their promoting our event at Rooster Rock.

Volunteers In The Gorge (VIG) who has a history of working with AANR-NW at Rooster Rock showed up in numbers to lend their efforts.

During the winter of 1999, the Oregon State Police and the Oregon State Parks met to discuss several ongoing issues and foreseen needs in relationship to the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. It was recognized by the two agencies, that a vast multitude of other local, state and federal agencies maintain a vested interest and/or are charged with the overall protection and preservation of this unique natural and valued historic area. In review of the known needs for the area, a grass roots plan was developed to create a group of citizen volunteers to begin operating within the area. It was mutually agreed, in a handshake agreement, that both agencies would begin to organize a multi-agency volunteer project.”

It was Oregon State Police Sergeant Craig George now retired who first met with AANR and Oregon State Parks Dept Assistant Area Manager Kevin Price in the year 2002 that approached the Volunteers In The Gorge to partner with AANR at Rooster Rock State Park. At the time Sergeant George was the lead advisor for the VIG group. We are proud to say that Craig George is now an AANR member actively working to support AANR-NW in Montana. It was Craig George who built the changing bench at the entrance to the nude beach at Rooster Rock.

VIG volunteer Jim barbecued over sixty hot dogs at the end of the workday. AANR-NW dues paying members paid for the hotdogs, buns, condiments, cookies and paper products.

A wonderful surprise was to have VIG volunteers Tammy and Jeff Hillyard who joined AANR and the Willamettans after the first VIG/AANR partnered beach cleanup. Tammy recently had a double mastectomy and missed a beach cleanup so we were excited to see her feeling like participating again.

Marvin Bragdon was quite the AANR ambassador. Marvin met a young father and his daughter while working and invited them back to the barbecue. When the father wanted to make a financial contribution to our efforts it was suggested he consider joining AANR and join us for the next AANR-NW beach cleanup at Rooster Rock on August 2, camping visit to Mountaindale Sun Resort that evening and a trip to Sauvie Island on August 3.

A VERY Special Announcement.AANR Welcomes Glass Bar

This week our club and member liaison Terry Justice brings very good news: We’re extremely happy to announce the new club in the AANR-Northwest known as Glassbar Island Nude Beach Volunteers in Eugene, Oregon. I would personally like to thank Shirley Gauthier and the Glassbar team for making this happen. Congratulations! See contact information for the club in Terry’s report below.

FLU Hits Kissimmee

We appreciate your patience this week if it has taken longer than normal to get back to you. The staff has been short-handed on various days as a bad case of flu and colds hit a number of us. sometimes requiring several trips to the doctor before it was over. Most have recovered and things are starting to get back to normal.

The NEW YORK TIMES and Major Media may Hit This Weekend

This week our club and member liaison Terry Justice brings very good news:

Carolyn Hawkins is on the road today but wanted me to relay that she has had conversations with the reporter from The New York Times who has been working on a large story about the growth of nude recreation and the Nakation T phenomenon that is catching on. While it is a little too early to know if it will run this Sunday, by the time that we do know it may be too late to reach you with the news. For this reason, we recommend checking Google News this weekend to be sure you don’t miss what is sure to be a big story when it lands.

AANR Assisting Members in Need

This week our office fielded a call from a person in Ohio who had his computer equipment confiscated after a report was filed that he had been visiting nudist Web sites. We provided initial information to be made available to his attorney, and will be available to consult with his counsel as the case moves on.

South Carolina Bill to be Heard in SubCommittee

Next Wednesday

Last week HB 3679 was heard in the full House Judiciary Committee. Those following its progress know that its definitions have the potential to treat nude recreation much like adult entertainment. Cheri Alexander of the Travelites club, who attended the session and has been spearheading efforts to stop the bill, reported that no testimony was taken, but she did have opportunities to speak to several members of the committee with concerns. She was also interviewed by the Associated Press. Thankfully, Judiciary also opted to send the bill to another subcommittee for review. That subcommittee is scheduled to hear the bill at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday April 9th. Those in the state are asked to watch for a CapWiz dispatch with more details about how you can attend and help stop this bill.

VOTING GUIDE on aanr.com

EARTH DAY

Earth Day is April 22. We are putting together a press release to send to various media outlets. If you or your club is planning environmental or green activities, please let me know so we can promote your club in the release. If you have not planned an activity, we encourage you to do so. You can plant a tree or some flowers or adopt an area of a highway to clean up. Recycling is a big part of the “going green.” You can e-mail me at pubaffairs@aanr.com .

To Register Your Community Events with Take Pride In America (TPIA) – Go to www.TakePride.gov and complete the brief registration form located under the “Volunteer” tab; and contact Kathy Pearson at kathy_w_pearson@yahoo.com. Let us know if your club has a project in 2007 planned that it can get TPIA credit. You must give 6-8 weeks notice and use the TPIA logo in your advertising of the event. AANR would like to come in the top 20 for total hours volunteered next year.

AANR-NW GAT Day – Registration Due April 13!

Registration for the July 3 GAT Day is close. The AANR-NW Government Affairs Team (GAT) is hosting a GAT Day July 3 at the Willamettans Family Nudist Resort. This date was chosen to combine the GAT Day with the AANR-NW convention. This GAT Day event requires pre-registration. A check must be included with each registration form.

AANR-NW GAT will pay the cost for each club to have one participant. The check will be returned to the club if pre-registered attendee participates on July 3. The reason for this requirement is that the GAT DAY includes a workshop that AANR-NW GAT must sign a contract for and pre-register participants. The only way a club will end up paying is if they pre-register and do not show up or wish to pay for additional participants. Individuals may pre-register and pay the required fee.

The deadline for pre-registration is April 13 – Squaw Mountain Ranch Board
meeting.
