*Wishing a Happy, Safe, and Successful Independence Day Holiday to All*
This weekend marks the traditional celebration of Independence Day and a major event among most AANR clubs. We extend to you our very best wishes for good weather and fun.
Because the holiday falls on a Sunday, our office will be closed on Monday. We will resume regular operating hours on Tuesday morning.
Reports of our family members, friends, and other men and women serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, elsewhere overseas, and in the armed forces here and in Canada, remind us that freedom, while priceless, is certainly not free. We publicly thank those who have served, and also those in civilian government—from police officers to firefighters and paramedics—who help to preserve peace and freedom also.
*Happy Canada Day *
Canada Day celebrations occur this week also. The country is 143 years old, and we very much appreciate the great contribution that our neighbors to the North make to our association and the world of nude recreation. Best wishes to all Canadians and those who carry a piece of Canada in their hearts!
Celebrations such as Independence Day and Canada Day also provide a convenient opportunity to remind the nudist community that preserving our liberty to enjoy nude recreation does not come without challenges.
*AANR Helping Members and Clubs*
We had a considerable number of reminders that the important work of protecting the freedom to practice nude recreation goes on this week. Calls poured into the office seeking assistance with criminal citations and custody matters.
*Midwest**…* First, a member in the Midwest was charged with disorderly conduct after he woke in the morning, still nude, and observed a work crew outside his back window. Until very recently, this person’s backyard had looked out onto protected wetland and was very secluded. With new landscaping and paths being put in, people are now where only weeds once stood. As can be expected, people and nudity do not always mix. We have worked with the member and a lawyer he retained to review options as he considers the plea he will enter in court.
*West…* Next a member in the AANR-West region called after her son learned he faces charges for contempt of court. He allowed his daughter (our member’s granddaughter) to visit at the nudist club. He was unaware that his ex-spouse had inserted a clause prohibiting visits to nudist venues in their child’s custody agreement when it was revised several years ago. We are presently assisting with a search for a qualified attorney who practices in the state where the child resides, and the contempt charge is pending.
*Midwest** and East…* AANR also assisted a member who lives in the Midwest, but visits and has a full membership within an AANR-East club. Again, the issue is the right to bring grandchildren to the club, which has been happening since the child was born and only recently became an issue. I had extensive conversations with the member’s attorney, and we expedited a package of legal precedents and expert materials out that will be used in court later this month.
*West…* Finally, we continue to work with an AANR family that encountered significant difficulties after their nudist family photos within a private family album on the Flickr website attracted the attention of authorities. We have worked closely with the counsel representing the father in what continues to be a case involving photos with simple family nudity and nothing more. We are pleased to report that the children have been returned to the custody of their mom, although dad is not presently allowed to return home pending trial. Cases like theirs are very sobering for the AANR staff and your Executive Director. They provide the need to press the case for nude recreation with officials in legislatures and government agencies and for educating them about the difference between nude and lewd.
*Speaking of Educating Government…* We received word from yet another AANR club—this one located in the Midwest—that was turned down a couple months ago by a bank for credit card processing at what would have been a lower rate than what it pays its current vendor. That brings the total of clubs reporting a problem with this issue to five. The good news is that we have brought your case to Washington and Washington is listening! The other good news is that we have some new bank options available through a credit card processor that is friendlier to nude recreation. If you would like information, please contact our office.

*Does Your Club Support A Charity? *
Some time ago I asked if your club sponsored or had sponsored a specific charity, i.e breast cancer, diabetes, etc. We are working on a pitch story, but I did not receive very much response. If your club has participated in a charity, please let me know so we can compile the information.
