*Best Wishes to the AANR Southwest-Region*
This weekend members of the AANR-Southwest will convene at Armadillo Resort in Poolville, Texas, for the region’s annual convention. We wish them the very best for a successful, fun, and safe convention for all. I would like to take just a moment to extend special thanks to Lucy Heide, the outgoing region president, and her husband, Slim, for their dedicated work to the region these past several years. They have done an incredible job!
*AANR Helping Members*
Last week and this week our office responded to calls from several members seeking our assistance. First, a member on the West Coast called requesting literature that she can use to help educate the teacher at her seven-year-old daughter’s elementary school. When asked to make a poster about what she planned to this summer, the girl innocently made one announcing that she and her family would be “naked camping…” with accompanying graphics! Thankfully this one did not spiral into a child protective services matter as has occurred on some occasions, but the girl was kept after school in punishment for what was assumed to be a prank.
We also responded to requests for information pertaining to a West Coast child custody matter—the scenario of divorced parents disagreeing about the kids visiting nudist clubs. In this situation, our office worked with both the member and the AANR club involved to explore their options.
*Did You Happen to Notice…*
That actress Jennifer Anniston and Paul Rudd, her some-time costar from the series Friends, have signed up to perform in a movie that will include scenes set in a “nudist” environment? Tabloids and celebrity columns were abuzz this week about the film Wanderlust. It’s an edgy romantic comedy set in the 1970s in which Anniston and Rudd play a married couple planning a move from New York to a relative’s home in the South. Along the way they stop at a bed and breakfast that turns out to be more of a commune—with a full complement of folks from nudists, to vegans, to weed-smoking…you get the idea. The film is in its early stages of development. Because the reports indicate it will make a comedic play to stereotypes about nude recreation that AANR works hard to dispel, our PR team is working on some creative, fun, ways to respond. Messaging will encourage the public—including Anniston and Rudd—to look closer and think a little differently, too.

We’re smiling all over because—thanks to all of our tenacious members, visitors, and friends—*DeAnza Springs was nominated* in TWO, not one, categories of the San Diego Tribune’s “Best of San Diego” Poll. Thanks to your effort we were nominated in the *”Best Campground” *and* **”Best Place to Hike” *areas. I’m not sure ANYONE has had that honor before.
Now we need our help by voting for us again. Log onto www.sdbestpoll.com and click on Sports and Recreation and then go to both Campground and Place to Hike to vote. You can vote from different computers and can vote every 24 hours. Voting will continue until June 23. Thanks for your support.
