AANR Weekly Report 11/6/2009

Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director

Thanks to SCNA, AANR-W for this tip: Oprah Gets Women to go Skinny Dipping!

Talk about mainstreaming nude recreation!  This week AANR-West President Anita Panganiban forwarded a link to a news story that the Southern California Naturist Association let her know about.  Believe it or not, Oprah Winfrey challenged a group of 40-something women to give skinny-dipping a try as part of a “step out of the box” episode.  You can read more details on Oprah’s site here: http://www.oprah.com/article/spirit/inspiration/20091030-tows-step-out-of-box/6

AANR Helping Members and Clubs

This week we responded to two members facing child custody issues associated with their participation in nude recreation.  On the West Coast, a dad living in an AANR park received a petition to modify visitation with his teenage daughter to prohibit taking her to the park.  In Florida, a father’s nudist membership is being raised in custody proceedings also.  We have expedited legal materials to both individuals in addition to holding telephone conferences with them and/or their counsel.

Carolyn Hawkins, Public Relations Coordinator

Bare Necessities had another successful and fun cruise, as always. I met several members and educated several nonmembers and first-time nudists.  Now I am trying to play catch up, get back to business, and get ready for the budget meeting.

AANR Weekly Report 11/20/2009

*Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director***

*AANR Helping Members and Friends*

This week our offices were deluged with calls requesting legal information and assistance. Because these matters involve actively pending cases and are numerous, we will only provide a brief summary at this time: (1) securing a fellow-AANR member to testify as an expert witness on behalf of an AANR Life Member located on the East Coast who was seen by a neighbor gardening in the nude in what he thought was a secluded back yard; (2) answering questions and providing guidance to the attorney of a member in the Midwest seen in the nude after he let his dog out a back door of his home and was monitoring the dog; (3) a situation involving nude photography; and (4) a second case on the West Coast involving AANR members who included nude photographs of their family / sons in an online photo album which triggered a police investigation and raid on their home. Though the parents have been completely cleared of criminal charges, authorities have refused to reunite them with the children who remain in “protective custody.”

*USA** Today Discusses Nude Beach at San Onofre*

Yesterday’s edition of The Nation’s Largest Newspaper carried a detailed story about the events surrounding the California Parks and Recreation’s decision to end the tradition of nude recreation at San Onofre beach and the results of the subsequent lawsuit by the Naturist Action Committee (NAC). You may read the complete story by clicking here: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2009-11-17-nude-beaches_N.htm

AANR is not quoted or mentioned in the story. This is fitting given NAC and the Friends of San Onofre’s exclusive role in pressing and directing the litigation involved. We share disappointment with them and others in the nude recreation community about the California courts’ ultimate decision.

However, AANR membership mattered in one very important respect which is addressed by *USA Today*. That’s where the future of nudity on public lands in locations other than San Onofre comes up. Where California Parks and Recreation Department officials have stated that they will *refrain* from ending nudity in other traditional places within The Department’s jurisdiction it is evidence of your Government Affairs Team (and specifically public lands liaison Steve Hubbard) working very hard, over very long hours through multiple meetings and phone calls with the Department to secure those statements and commitments.

*Nakation-in-a-Box makes Holiday Gift List*

The following link will take you to LA Splash’s guide to Holiday Travel Gifts. There are many, many creative trips, safety items, pieces of luggage, and more to please the frequent voyager. Naturally, AANR’s Nakation in a Box made this year’s list with help from the public relations team at Ypartnership. Scroll to about the middle of the page once loaded to see the entry.

As more people order The Box and review AANR’s North American Guide to Nude Recreation and the full color map included, we trust it will bring more visitors to your clubs.

*Congratulations to Jeff Bowman*

Jeff Bowman, owner of Living Waters Spa, has been elected to the Mission Springs Water District Board of Directors. The fact that they own a clothing-optional hotel wasn’t an issue with the voters. Please see:

*Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone*

Next week our office will be closed on Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday. At a time like this we are reminded to be thankful of you, our members of the AANR family. Please accept our best wishes for a happy and safe occasion. *Carolyn Hawkins, Public Relations Coordinator*

*CSG Report*

I attended the trade show Council of State Governments (CSG) last weekend in Palm Springs, CA. The show was smaller then years past, but we handed out pins and brochures and spoke with lawmakers.

Thanks to Tom Mulhall of Terra Cotta for helping me man the booth on Friday and to John Kinman for helping me on Saturday. Thanks also to John and BJ for putting me up. It was much better then a hotel room and a lot less expensive. _______________________________________________ eNews mailing list eNews@aanr-nw.org http://aanr-nw.org/mailman/listinfo/enews_aanr-nw.org

AANR Weekly Report – 11/13/2009

By admin at 1:04 pm on November 15, 2009 | No comments

***Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director*

*With Many Thanks…*

We appreciate the hard work put in by AANR’s budget committee, which met this week in our office to prepare the draft 2010 budget for presentation to the AANR Board of Trustees. Thank you to AANR President John Kinman, Finance Chair Darrel Brown, Planning Chair Don Sloan, and Secretary/Treasurer Tina Barnott for many, many hours volunteered in traveling to and working through this meeting. The team’s revisions will be prepared prior to distribution to the Trustees.

*Kissimmee** Visitors*

In addition to the visit from the budget team this week, we also welcomed AANR-Western Canada President Bob Campbell and his wife, Lee, on Monday. Jim Lane, President of AANR- East paid us a visit this week also. We appreciate having a chance to say hello to those making trips to sunny Florida as cooler weather comes to the North.

*AANR and Nude Recreation in the News on MSNBC.com*

This week the Association received some welcome publicity from the Web site of the popular network. MSNBC reprinted excerpts of travel writer Christopher Elliott’s interview with me several months ago about taking a nakation, and even included a brief video clip. To see the story, click here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33727698/

*Steve Vickers** Lends a Hand*

Those visiting may see a familiar face here over the next several months. Steve Vickers, who worked with us for many years before joining the marketing crew at Bare Necessities Tour and Travel, is once again in Florida preparing to finish college and to begin a new life with his fiancé who he will soon marry. We’re pleased to welcome him back to assist us with several important marketing projects. Results from much of Steve’s analysis will be presented during the January meeting of the Board.
