Labor Day Weekend

This holiday typically marks the end of the summer season. Kids have gone back to school, and cooler weather isn’t long to follow.  From all of us in the AANR office, we deeply hope you have an enjoyable and safe weekend, and that you get to spend at least some of your weekend naked, too..

In observance of the holiday, our office will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2009.

The AANR President Speaks

AANR President John Kinman prepared a remarkable column for the October 2009 issue of The Bulletin in which he asked the question, “Is AANR Outdated?” It is so good that you may not want to wait to read his explanation of why AANR is committed to its principles and standards. Read his remarks at: http://blog.aanr.com/2009/09/ 03/has-aanr-become-outdated/. Be sure to read some of the many enthusiastic comments from AANR members.

E-Bulletin

While we are talking about John’s column, it bears mention that excerpts from his piece appeared in this week’s edition of the E-Bulletin. It prompted over 1,200 “subscribers” to read more as well as a flurry of comments. (Currently, more than 13,000 people receive this online publication every two weeks.)

A Prayer for Our California Clubs

We are very saddened to hear about the many fires devastating California this week, particularly those near San Bernardino. Glen Eden, Olive Dell, and Deer Park clubs currently report that they have not been directly impacted. They, and our other clubs in the state, are very much in our thoughts right now.

AANR Helping Members and Clubs

This week, our office fielded calls from a member seeking to create a new club within the Southeast. We are preparing a package of materials he can use when meeting with county commissioners. We also assisted a club in the Northeast with questions about the Americans with Disabilities Act.

We also received a call from an East Coast member who was being hassled by nosy neighbors within his condominium association. And a mother on the West Coast sought our help after a co-worker reacted in disgust (and later threatened to contact protective services) when she overheard our member explaining that she brings her family to nudist resorts.

Reminder to All Committee Chairs

Please submit your committee’s budget requests for 2010 to the AANR office no later than September 30, 2009.

Training DVD

As promised, the training DVD was mailed to all AANR clubs today. This is a great resource for educating front-desk managers on how to explain the benefits of AANR membership to guests. It’s great for non-landed clubs, too. Once again, we wish to thank Broadway Joe and Anita Panganiban and their entire team at AANR-West for producing the remarkable resource.

Second Request—We Need Your Skinny-Dip Stories

Although the AANR World Record Skinny-Dip is over, people are still sharing stories about the fun they had.  We would like to share some of these stories on the AANR Web site in order to retain the public attention this event brought to AANR and its clubs and to promote the event for next year.

Would you please send us your brief stories ( no more than 150 words) about the skinny-dip event you hosted or attended? Tell us about the ingenious ways in which you publicized your event; stories about first-time visitors and their enjoyment; special activities you planned to coordinate with the skinny-dip; challenges you encountered with logistics; and above all, about the fun of participating in one of the most delightful events  AANR has ever sponsored.

Please e-mail your story as soon as possible to Lynn Von Hagel at clubhappenings@aanr.com.

Front Cover Banner Ad Available

What page of The Bulletin do you normally read first? Most members would say, “The front cover.” So, if you had a chance for an advertisement on the front cover, wouldn’t you jump at the chance? The banner ad on the front cover has just become available and will be sold on a first- come, first-served basis. This is a PRIME location at a very reasonable cost. Contact Martha Young at 800/879-6833, ext. 228 for details.

Bates Beach in Santa Barbara County, CA

Published with permission from SCNA (www.socalnaturist.org) President Gary Mussell

Energy has been spent for over a decade to regain the usage of Bates Beach for nude recreation.  The Southern California Naturist Association (SCNA) and the Nude Beach Alliance (www.nudebeachalliance.com) have been instrumental in their efforts to regain lost beaches and keep the beaches that are in jeopardy.  These organizations are in the forefront of advocating for nude recreation on public lands.  Join their efforts at one of the following events or DONATE online to support the movement!

Labor Day Weekend Beach Bash!

Saturday-Monday, September 5-7 from 11 a.m. to sunset.

Bates Beach is very easy to get to.  Bring your own picnic lunch. We will provide the volleyball net.  Walk down the ramp from the parking lot and go north (to the right) about 1000 yards. We will meet between the rusty drain pipe and the concrete barrier. Look for the Nude Beach Alliance signs.

For the past several months there has been no police activity on the beach at all, and many of us are going top free or nude with no hassle from anyone else. But because a ticket is still possible, that choice is up to you.

Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day!

Saturday, September 19, 11 a.m. (optional 9 a.m. start)

This is the day all the beaches get cleaned of trash by volunteers.  Nudists all up and down the coast have adopted beaches to do their share.  We are doing Bates.  Bring gloves and maybe a poking stick if you have one. We have the trash bags.  Relax on the beach with us after the task is completed.

To participate in either event or to donate online, visit the Nude Beach Alliance website at: http://www.nudebeachalliance. com/home.html

Assateague Beach Cleanup in Maryland

As reported in previous reports, the Assateague Beach Cleanup will take place Saturday, September 19, at 9 a.m. Contact Ray Simpson at governmentaffairsmd@aanr-east. com or phone 301/399-9338.
