A Big Thank You!
A big Thank You to everyone who joined the Rooster-Sauvie Volunteers for the August Work Party at Rooster Rock and Sauvie Island on August 1st & 2nd! Our 40 volunteers included two families with six children, and some folks who stopped by when they saw our signs at the beach entrances. A special thank you goes out to the SLUGS (www.slimetrail.org) an AANR affiliated travel club, who traveled from Seattle, Washington to support nude recreation on public lands. Together we hauled 585 pounds of trash from our nude beaches!
Special thanks also to Oregon State Parks ranger Glenn Littrell, who came in on his day off to coordinate our work at Rooster Rock. Park Hosts Melinda Stanfield & Dick Rayscher were also a great help hauling trash, and even cooking our hotdogs! Thanks also to AANR Public Lands Liaison Shirley Gauthier, who always brings her boundless enthusiasm to our events.
At noon volunteers were rewarded with our traditional hotdog lunch, and spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying the sun. We swam in the cool lagoon water, rolled ourselves down the dunes, and built a huge sand volcano, complete with mud lava.
That evening we enjoyed a volunteer appreciation spaghetti dinner prepared by our friends at Mountaindale Sun Resort (www.mountaindalesun.com). Volunteers were surprised with a cake thanking beach volunteers for their work.
Sunday volunteers enjoyed another sunny day completing litter patrols and enjoying another hotdog barbecue with Jim Braddock contributing his barbecue skills, and Ona Gould surprising us with a homemade zucchini cake. Thanks to Vern, Cathy and Tristen Wallman who traveled the fartherst to participate and for providing the portable table for the lunch.
Please join us in our ongoing project to distribute the new AANR/Oregon State Parks beach cards, advising beach users to report public indecency. We’re getting very positive feedback from people at the beach!
Rooster-Sauvie Volunteers have adopted Rooster Rock & Sauvie Island’s nude beaches through SOLV and Columbia Riverkeeper’s “Adopt A River” program. This partnership helps protect nude use of these areas by keeping the beach clean and providing a safe atmosphere for everyone.
