CONGRATULATIONS TO CHEROKEE
Cherokee Lodge and Resort in Crossville, Tennessee has been host to
AANR-East regional conventions, as well as a great AANR Convention in the
past. We are happy to know that the tradition for providing a great
destination to AANR members will go on as owner Danny Davis has successfully
completed a sale of the club to new owners who plan to take the club to new
heights in facilities and membership. These proud owners include John and
Sandra Zieba. Their adult son Christopher is also coming to lend a hand with
the business. John draws from experience in a “previous life” with a
successful construction business.
Again, a warm welcome to the Ziebas and our heartfelt congratulations to
Danny and his dedicated team.
A VERY SPECIAL WISH FOR YOUR HOLIDAY WEEKEND
This weekend, as many members celebrate Easter with close friends and
family, we’re reminded of how important each of you are to our AANR family.
Please accept our very best wishes for a happy and safe holiday. We also
extend good wishes to our Jewish friends as they prepare for Passover in
just a few weeks.
2008 AANR ELECTION CANDIDATE PROFILES
as well as pro and con statements concerning a proposed $5 dues increase, will be made available online at www.aanr.com by the close of business on Monday. (As you know, last night marked the deadline for submitting profiles and we appreciate your patience as we format this information.)
AANR HELPING CLUBS
This week our office assisted a West Coast club by writing a legal letter on
its behalf to a problem Web site. The site has been making statements about
the club which place it in a false light, but the Web site is operated in a
different state. We trust that this intervention will help address the
club’s problem.

The following CapWiz Action Alert was sent on March 20, 2008 to all
subscribed members in South Carolina. Thank you Cheri Alexander for chasing
this bill!
AANR Action Alert in South Carolina!
South Carolina HB 3679 - Rears Its Ugly Head!
Every Member Counts!
SC HB 3679 is something we thought was dead since the subcommittee did not
bring it into the full committee last year. It’s not the bill itself that is
troublesome; it’s the definitions that should be an issue to every nudist.
Bills like this one that confuse sexual oriented businesses with simple
nudity could impact nude recreation as we enjoy it today.
Last year, Representative Talley said we should offer an amendment. Cheri
Alexander emailed that out to each of the subcommittee members, but nothing
was done, and the session was over. It was re-introduced this year, and it
will be heard on Thursday morning, March 27th at 9AM in the full Judiciary
committee in Blatt Building Rm. 516.
Cheri has your “I’m a nudist and I vote” button. You don’t have to speak,
just be there. Please email Cheri Alexander at cheridonna@prodigy.net with
your intentions. She emailed every member of the current Judiciary committee
the amendment and will be there on the 27th.
ANYONE who lives in SC - can you make it also?!! Your presence will make a
difference. PLEASE, ONLY SC RESIDENTS!

AANR Legislative Tracking List
This week, the number of bills we are tracking decreased. Bills in the
states of IN, MO, NM, SD, TN, VA, WA and WV have been moved to an Inactive
status for one or more of the reasons:
o Enacted (the bill passed)
o Failed, but left in committee (the session has ended but the bill
could surface again)
o Failed and withdrawn from consideration
o State session has ended for this year
This Week in Session:
Today there are 28 States and DC in Regular Session.
IL is holding a Perfunctory Session.
US Senate is in Pro Forma Session.
There are 2 states in Special Session.
Statistics for This Year:
o 28 states currently have active bills that could impact nude
recreation.
o 1,505 bills have been reviewed personally by Erich and me.
o 224 bills have been reviewed in full text by Erich and me.
o 85 bills are on the Government Affairs “Legislative Tracking List.”
o 23 bills have been moved to an inactive status
o Bills are being tracked in the states of: AK, AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT,
FL, HI, IA, IL, KS, KY, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NJ, NY, OK, PA, RI, SC, SD,
TN and WI. Additionally, tracking bills in the US House and Senate.
AANR encourages our membership to assist in the process of tracking bills
by:
AANR works tirelessly to compile these weekly lists and engage volunteers
and lobbyists as necessary. AANR prefers to work quietly with our
legislators to prevent future laws that could impact nude recreation, but we
are well prepared to engage in other methods of resolution, such as: letter
writing campaigns ONLY when necessary. Always contact the AANR Office
before taking action. This ensures that your actions are aligned with the
strategy underway for any particular bill.
As an organization, we are doing an extraordinary job of reviewing and
tracking bills, but there are ways you can assist. Monitor state bills on
the Internet through local state government sites. Many of these state
sites are very in-depth and lend additional coverage of these bills. If you
find a bill that is not on our list, send us an email; the more eyes the
better. Do you have ideas regarding what organizations may be lobbying for
such bills? If you have information or feedback pertaining to these bills
or other government affairs activities, please contact me or the AANR
office. And thank you for supporting AANR!
To view the AANR GA Legislative Tracking Lists online, members are
encouraged to visit <http://www.aanr.com/members.html>
http://www.aanr.com/members.html, log in, and then click on the Government
Affairs section located on the left. Scroll down to the Downloads section at
the bottom of the page and click on the latest list, for example: “StateNet
Mar. 21, 2008.”
Each of the bills has been assigned to one of the following categories:
* HIGH - Serious bills we are actively tracking because, as written,
they present a direct or high probable threat to nude recreation.
* WATCH - Less threatening bills, as written, but could become a
problem with an amendment/s that add/delete just a few phrases. In some
cases a bill on the Watch List may be neither good nor bad but AANR would
want to notify members and/or clubs upon passage so that they could comply
with the law.
o RESEARCH - Bills that require additional research in order to
evaluate properly. They may, for example, refer to unexplained statues
which must be reviewed or the bill is very lengthy and must be printed out
to examine carefully for their affect.
o GOOD - Bills which present an opportunity to help members and/or
clubs.
