AANR Weekly Report for March 30, 2007

By admin at 1:22 pm on March 30, 2007 | No comments

=20
AANR Weekly Report for March 30, 2007
Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
The Weakest Link=85 a word about Increasing Web Traffic
We=92ve got a couple of very important tips that our webmaster, Captain Jac= k communications passed onto us that we=92ll pass onto you.
First, getting others only to link to your home page 05 be costing you Internet traffic! Yep. You read that right. Here=92s why:
The search engines that web surfers use to find sites of interest to them o= n the Internet are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their methods for determining who will rank highest in response to a given search term. When evaluating who will hold places among the top search results a search engin= e like Google will, for example, systematically determine how many links to a page within a given website and give much greater weight to that number tha= n the number of links pointing to the main page.
In other words, a link in a story to www.aanr.com/faq.html helps =93earn= =94 AANR a better place on search engines that use such methods than a link to our main page of www.aanr.com <http://www.aanr.com/> .
Links to the main page are thus dubbed =93the weakest link.=94 The theory behind this is that pages located deeper within a website (called =93deep links=94) are usually more rich with actual information and content. So li= nks to them demonstrate content-rich websites.
The second tip is getting others to use a keyword or key phrase that=92s important to you within their links back to your site.
What does all this mean in practice? You can help boost traffic to your club or personal website by encouraging others to link to a secondary page of your content using the key phrase that identifies you best. Do you have an events page that=92s updated regularly? How about a place to feature content submissions from members? Start encouraging visits there. If you have such a page, let us know so that we can find places on our website to send traffic there.
In turn, you can help boost traffic to AANR=92s website by adding a link to www.aanr.com/faq.html . You can double the effectiveness of that link by simply putting the word Nudist in hypertext, followed by =93Answers to Comm= on Questions=94 in regular text.=20
It takes a little readjustment on the part of your webmaster, but it can pa= y great dividends to your club and AANR. =20
News from the News
This week AANR had two very positive experiences with media.
First, thanks to hard work from Trustee Walt Stephens of AANR West, a Santa Barbara, California radio station conducted a live radio interview with AAN= R on the subject of nude recreation, what to expect on a first visit to a nudist beach or club, and how to join the Association. We also publicized the upcoming Nude Recreation Week from July 9-15, 2007, wherein AANR and TN= S will be teaming up to invite North Americans to try nude recreation. In the past, Walt has had regular communications with the station to debunk myths and answer questions. He put us in touch and, as a result, made a very successful interview possible. Great going Walt!
Next, the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) based in Washington, D.C. interviewed me for an upcoming story in their magazine about overcoming preconceptions held by the media when one is dealing with press. ASAE, the recognized leader in the association leadership community= , felt AANR could provide valuable information to its members about tackling this difficult situation. Congratulations are due you, AANR. You have earned a place not only as a credible voice for nude recreation, but in media as well.=20
Credibility, Resources at Work in Florida
In recent Executive Director reports we have reported on problem bills pending in Florida. I explained that, for reasons of strategy, we are not in a position to discuss many specifics of our response to these bills, beyond that we have been to Tallahassee to discuss them personally with lawmakers and to hold work sessions with FANR=92s lobbyist. We have very carefully monitored these bills, while re-assessing each threat on a near-daily basis.=20=20
We have opted for a low key approach that does not fan the flames of publicity so as to increase undue attention to these measures, and still believe it is the best approach. However, I would like to take a moment to talk about the quality of the team working for you during this particularly active Florida session:
Legal knowledge =96 Bills have been reviewed by FANR=92s General Counsel an= d me, as AANR Executive Director. FANR=92s Counsel has been licensed and activel= y practicing law in the state for more than 20 years. He holds a law degree from Duke University School of Law and worked as a prosecutor before going into private practice. Your Executive Director is also an alumni of Duke Law School, and is licensed to practice in Florida. He has handled pro bon= o cases for nudists charged with violations of 800.03 which regulates indecen= t exposure and is the subject of many of these bills and 877.03 disorderly conduct matters.
Legislative knowledge =96 FANR=92s lobbyist has worked at the state capitol= as a lobbyist through administrations (and legislatures) that have been controlled by both Democrat and (now) Republican administrations. His office is on Jefferson Street two blocks from the statehouse.=20
Communications ability and knowledge of local government =96 Volunteers hel= p round out the quality of the FANR Government Affairs Team, and nowhere is that more evident than in these two areas. Your FANR Government Affairs chair is a retired major from the Air Force serving as a communications officer for most of her career. Among the most notable accomplishments on her resume was directly working on the staff of high command during the first Gulf War. Local government is your FANR Vice President=92s area of expertise, which includes assignments as a city manager to several communities and, now, balancing retirement enjoyment with occasional re-assignments as an interim city manager.=20
Political knowledge =96 Politics plays into just about every decision made = in Tallahassee of course. It is helpful to have a member of the team that is versed in knowledge of the political capital that must be expended during a given course of action, as well as a strong knowledge of names and faces in government. Your AANR Government Affairs Coordinator has been the county chairperson for U.S. presidential campaigns and has served as a member of her party=92s county steering committee.
It takes many people to make a credible voice and you have, through your member dues, supported the people who make up your Florida team. I look forward to highlighting the capabilities of teams from other states in future reports.
—————————————————————————= – —=20
Carolyn Hawkins, Public Relations Coordinator=20
Positive Publicity
Erich had a very positive interview with ASAE Magazine. No scheduled print date as of now. He also had a great interview with the radio station, WTYK out of San Barbara California. This interview was interesting. It was about nude recreation in general and the reporter was transferred to Kimberly who signed him up for a membership over the phone and on the air. = =20
We are still waiting to hear from Newsday.
We are still working with a show called =93Spotlight On=94 and will keep yo= u posted as we continue. =20
PHOTO SHOOT This week we did a photo shoot covering many different areas such as gardening, golf carts, sports, beach scene and many more.=20=20
NUDE RECREATION WEEK We are working closely with The Naturist Society on joint promotion of Nude Recreation Week. The theme this year is =93Catch the Wave.=94 (Kudos to Nic= ky Hoffman and her team for this creative idea.) I encourage your club to get activities planned early so you can be included when members call for information on NRW. Open houses are very good and inexpensive. We will also have a template release for your club to you use where you can insert the club information and contact person. Go to www.aanr.com <http://www.aanr.com/> and click on press room, then go to images to view the 2007 Nude Recreation Week Button. Place your order early.
WE ARE SENDING OUT RELEASES AND PITCH STORIES AND LOOKING FOR THE TOP 10 EVENTS THAT YOUR CLUB HAS PLANNED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE YEAR.
NUDE CRUISE We have the Alaska nude cruise coming up in July. Again I am requesting club brochures be sent to the AANR office so we can promote your club on board.=20=20
Convention update If you plan to attend the convention get your registration in early. As soon as I have the nearby hotel information, I will give you those details. The registration form and activities schedule are available online at http://www.aanr.com/pdf/AANR%20Web%20Flyer-March.pdf .=20=20
If you plan to rent a car for the AANR Convention, we have also partnered with Budget Rent A Car along with Avis, Hertz, and Alamo. AANR Weekly Report for March 23, 2007

By admin at 12:31 pm on March 23, 2007 | No comments
AANR Weekly Report for March 23, 2007
Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
OUR THIRD ISSUE OF THE E-BULLETIN DISTRIBUTED We are pleased to let you know that the 3rd edition of AANR=92s all new E-Bulletin was sent this morning to nearly 8,000 e-mail addresses on file. Software that AANR is using has helped us to groom a once larger list of e-mails down to current, valid addresses that work. Not only do we have a higher quality list, but the percentage of messages we send that are opened has greatly increased also. Over half of our list will open messages withi= n the first two days.=20=20
There are limited opportunities to advertise in this =93publication=94 so b= e sure to check Linda Berry=92s section below for details.=20=20 =20
NEW PHOTOS ON THE WAY TO AANR.COM Yesterday a team from our office worked collecting some new stock photography for our Web site. Because our inventory of images–especially those featuring =93empty nesters=94– was limited we needed many more to te= ll the story of nude recreation. We are grateful to volunteers from Cypress Cove who assisted in this project. We look forward to creatively using som= e of their pictures soon.=20=20
NEWS TO USE=20 From time to time I get great suggestions from mentors and AANR leadership on great business books. If your schedule is like mine, you probably don= =92t have as much time to read such books as you=92d like. That=92s why it=92s = worth recommending a quick read that can pay great dividends in reaching your marketing goals.=20=20
"The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding" by Ries and Ries, as the title implies, is broken into 22 short chapters of the most important elements to creating and protecting your brand. While most examples are drawn from heavy hitters in the corporate world like Coke and Pepsi, the principles can be applied t= o businesses of any size in many cases.=20=20=20
There=92s some good news in this book for AANR. Many of the suggestions are already part of our long term strategy. We=92re doing a lot of things righ= t, though obviously more than a few tips in this book would help us improve. = =20
You can read through 22 Immutable Laws in about one afternoon. The latest edition has a bonus section about making the best use of your Web site. = =20
The ISBN # 13 978 0 06 000773 7 or via the attached link http://www.amazon.com/22-Immutable-Laws-Branding/dp/0060007737/ref=3Dpd_bbs= _sr _1/002-4385784-2692064?ie=3DUTF8&s=3Dbooks&qid=3D1174660025&sr=3D8-1 =20=20=20
AANR WRITES DEAR ABBY AND PASTA RONI Recently, advice columnist Dear Abby (now her daughter actually) has run columns addressing the subject of nudity. About one month ago she wrote to calm the fears of a woman whose husband wanted the couple to try visiting a nude beach. Her matter of fact answer was that lots of decent people go to such beaches and that they come from all walks of life. Last week, she wrote to explain the difference between naturism and exhibitionism.=20=20
These two columns are evidence that the subject of nude recreation are on a lot of minds these days. I wrote to Abby offering AANR=92s assistance with answering future questions and enclosed a copy of AANR=92s North American Guide to Nude Recreation and other helpful brochures.=20=20
There=92s additional evidence that nudity is being talked about more than e= ver before. Just look at recent commercials for Pasta Roni=85you know, one of those San Francisco treats. The company, a subsidiary of Quaker Oats, is running a commercial that features naked people with the message that its product is all natural. Although carefully placed objects obscure much, th= e people are depicted as enjoying themselves, cheerful, and completely natura= l about their nudity. AANR Weekly Report for March 16, 2007

By admin at 6:40 am on March 17, 2007 | No comments

–1-5635891954-6362674549=:7 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
Weekly Report
March 16, 2007

Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
NUDE RECREATION MAKES NEWSWEEK
As you know, Newsweek is among the top periodicals reporting on current events. We're very pleased to let you know that this week's edition of the magazine contains a half-page story about nude travel. There is considerable coverage given to the emerging gay travel market. Reporters Amy Green and Arian Campo-Flores also interviewed Carolyn Hawkins of our office for facts and figures on overall trends within our industry. You can access an online copy by clicking the link in Carolyn's report below.

AANR JOINS STATE TOURISM TEAM IN VISITS TO
TALLAHASSEE LAWMAKERS
Many of you have expressed concerns about a number of bills introduced in the Florida legislature this term, which we have been tracking closely since they were pre-filed. Among these bills, the most notable is HB 269 from freshman Representative Snyder. This bill has the potential to alter the standard for what constitutes indecent exposure=85a standard that has worked pretty well in the state for a number of years. Equally troubling, the bill would increase the penalties for a violation to as much as a second degree felony under certain circumstances. FANR's lobbyist had several communications with the sponsor and, behind the scenes, we have been working the issue with a number of approaches.

This week we had an opportunity to make onsite visits with lawmakers. A delegation from AANR and FANR was in Tallahassee as part of "support tourism" day =96 an official project of Visit Florida, of which the association is a member. Visit Florida is a public / private partnership that is the official arm of state tourism. Seven others joined me in meeting with officials to promote increases in the state's travel marketing budget. Details of that visit will appear, with pictures, in the 05 issue of The Bulletin.

HB 269-related concerns were chief among topics covered too. We wrapped up our day with a meeting in the offices of FANR's lobbyist where status, strategy, and the progress and challenges on countering HB 269 were addressed. Pleased be assured that everyone working for the Association in the capital city is strongly aware of the importance of this, and the other bills and that all continue to work effectively on them.

There are some occasions where we cannot discuss many specific details about the work we're doing and the reality is that this is one of those situations. The reason is simple: Tallahassee is extremely volatile. AANR Weekly Report for March 9, 2007

By admin at 1:28 pm on March 9, 2007 | No comments

=20 AANR Weekly Report for March 9, 2007
=20
Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
Glen Miller Loan Letters Distributed this Week Did you know that AANR makes interest-free loans available to landed 100% clubs for making improvements? Now loans of up to $10,000 are possible thanks to some thoughtful planning by AANR Vice President George Morrison and his committee.
This year=92s recipients include: – $10,000 awarded to Bluebonnet Club; – $10,000 awarded to the Sequoians of California; and – $ 5,000 awarded to Juniper Woods of New York
With help from Amy King, our new employee (who is also learning and preparing to eventually assume duties as an administrative assistant to me) we have distributed letters to these clubs. A congratulatory message and instructions for completing an enclosed promissory note are in the packages= . Once these are properly executed and returned, checks will be sent out so that these clubs can get their exciting new projects underway.
Glen Miller loans are one more important way of enhancing the nude recreation experience for AANR members.
New Media Tools for Clubs Now Available on AANR.com
Many of you know about what=92s available in the club services section of www.aanr.com <http://www.aanr.com/> Now a powerful means of reaching media in YOUR area with either a press release or pitch has been added and at no additional cost to you. Log in with your username and password to look for media tools. Contact Martha Young at bulletinads@aanr.com to get a username and password if you don=92t already have one.
Click it and you=92re instantly transported to a page where you can call up all radio, print, and television media based on your zip code or location o= n a map. You can =93cut and paste=94 a press release and send it automatical= ly to up to five such media with one click. If you=92d prefer a more personalize= d approach to, say, reach a sports editor with news about an upcoming bare buns 5K race, you simply click on the name of the station or newspaper and find the email of the staffer you=92re trying to reach. All emails are organized by position in their respective companies.
Go on and try it out! This will quickly become one tool you won=92t want t= o be without. It=92s made possible through AANR=92s CapWiz service. =20
AANR Launches Issue #2 of the E-Bulletin
On Thursday AANR staffer and E-Bulletin creator Lynn Von Hagel prepared and sent the second issue of the Association=92s electronic newsletter. Storie= s included Bare Necessities=92 record-breaking run for the Susan G. Komen foundation aboard ship, the Bodies and Souls book celebrating women, Dove= =92s Pro-Age (and pro-nude) campaign, plus info on how to purchase last minute entries in the Mira Vista challenge.
After performing some grooming on the initial list to remove additional email addresses that are not functioning, there are about 7,600 households on the revised list. During Thursday=92s dispatch, very few of these =93bo= unced back=94 and over one third of those sent E-Bulletins have already opened th= em.

Boston Globe Runs Story on Naked Mainers Club=20
The Boston Globe is the largest newspaper serving New England states. On Monday the front page of the local section carried an extensive piece about the club that made nude bowling in Maine famous. Reporter Jenna Russell also interviewed the Sunchasers travel club of Massachusetts and mentioned nudist club locations from the Berkshires and beyond. Statistics and quote= s from AANR round out the story. You can read it here: http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2007/03/05/winters_a_trial_for_ma= i nes_nudists/ =20
Dove Pro-Age Round II=85 the Culture Wars
Thanks to many of you who sent us emails and phone calls about the Dove Pro-Age advertising campaign featuring women above the age of 50 in discree= t nude poses. We learned from you that you had also written to Unilever to express support and even that the advertisements were appearing in some movie theaters before the movie began!
However, we soon got a strong reminder about why AANR must weigh in on behalf of wholesome nudity from time to time: While running a routine web search we learned of a large boycott of Dove products being organized by those who feel that the nude depiction of these women sexually exploits the= m and presents a hazard to children who might see it. If you want to have an idea about what we=92re up against, you can read about one such boycott by clicking here:=20 http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2007/mar/07030501.html
But I would also encourage you that your support of AANR and your messages of good will to companies like Unilever can help make a big difference in the =93culture wars.=94 As the credible voice for nude recreation, we take= the combined support that you and nearly 50,000 other members give us. When multiplied, a thank you message becomes a BIG Thank You and lets companies know that there are many who see natural depictions of the human body as a good thing.
To drop a note to Unilever products send your emails to: http://www.unileverusa.com/resources/contactus.asp
Bill and Mary Williamson in our Thoughts and Prayers
Many of you personally know the Williamsons. Bill, who serves as AANR Trustee from AANR East, and Mary, who serves as the region=92s secretary. With this report, we=92re asking you to keep them both close in your though= ts and prayers.
Bill has been in and out of the hospital on several occasions during the past few weeks. AANR Weekly Report for March 2, 2007

By admin at 12:40 pm on March 4, 2007 | No comments

AANR Weekly Report for March 2, 2007
=20
Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
AANR Responds Warmly to Dove Soap=92s Pro-Age, Pro-Nudity Campaign
Many of you have mentioned Dove Pro-Age advertising campaign to me in conversations and e-mails. For those of you less familiar, the company has begun running television, print, and web advertisements for their new product targeting women over 50. The ads often include pictures of such women completely nude, albeit posed discreetly. Ads in more conservative publications invite readers to go online to register for free product samples and to view ads in their natural state.
The advertisements make a great case for body acceptance, the naturalness o= f the human body in pictures, and growing older with grace and style. For al= l these reasons, I wrote to Dove, as well as the advertising agency that developed the ads, to express AANR=92s appreciation for the campaign and to invite Dove to advertise within The Bulletin. A copy of the letter is included below. We=92ll let you know what we hear. ———————— I am writing on behalf of nearly 50,000 members of an association for whom = I serve as Executive Director. In brief, it's to say kudos, thank you, and congratulations for a beautiful, tasteful series of advertisements for Dove Pro Age that celebrate the human body, and aging gracefully with style!
My association does not exclusively represent those in the age range to which Dove Pro Age is marketed. But we have many, many women within our ranks who fit that description. We are, you see, the American Association for Nude Recreation — an association that has also celebrated the natural beauty of the human body whether one is 8 months old or 80. We are a credible organization with roots dating to 1931 and have been recognized by government and the private sector for the work we do.
The commercials and print advertisements for Dove Pro Age have touched so many of our members that they have written to me asking me to write you. W= e would like to extend an invitation to Dove to run a full page advertisement absolutely free of charge for Dove Pro Age in our monthly member newspaper, The Bulletin. We would also be happy to insert a coupon for Dove Pro Age into packets sent to all new and renewing members at no charge to you beyon= d the coupons you print. (We already have similar corporate partnerships wit= h such providers as Hertz and Avis Rent-A-Car, 1-800-Flowers.com, AFLAC… an= y company that has been friendly to the ideals we represent.)
Dove Age Pro has been MORE than friendly. You are disseminating a message that is more important than many could realize. Please know that Dove Pro Age will be on my family's shopping list in the future.
For your convenience, I am providing web addresses to our main page about the nude experience ( please note the ages we celebrate at http://www.aanr.com/top_experience.html ), as well as the web address to ou= r member benefits page which lists some of our corporate partners and describes The Bulletin ( http://www.aanr.com/members.html). I am also enclosing a variety of materials that tell you a little more about us.=20
I look forward to hearing from you about how we can work together to promot= e Dove Pro Age and the message you are bringing to the public.
AANR Helping Nudists in Need
Last Friday, after completing the weekly report, I received a frantic telephone call from a nudist couple with a family in the Midwest. Their problem: They enjoyed visits to an area nudist club and skinny-dipping in the family pool so much that they extended an invitation to some of the wife=92s adult siblings to give nude recreation a try. Instead, a sister a= nd brother-in-law went =93ballistic.=94 To the point of reporting her husband = — who works in a conservative profession — to his employer and indicating that they 05 have child protective services intervene.=20=20=20
In this case we are in the process of putting the couple in touch with qualified legal counsel so that they can be prepared for things they hope will not happen. We have also done some =93creative listening,=94 provided assurance, and helpful literature.
Perhaps you in our clubs have a similar story. AANR=92s response is a demonstration of being very good at something that is very important. Ther= e are few things more important to a person than family and job. We cannot expect people to fully enjoy nude recreation =96 or tell others about it = =97 if they feel family and job would be jeopardized.=20
Sunsport Gardens Holds Candidate Forum
Newspapers and other media from coast to coast have carried news today abou= t a debate / candidate=92s forum between candidates for town board positions held at Sunsport Gardens nudist club of Loxahatchee, Florida. Kudos to Sunsport for their success in getting so many officials to attend this event! Read more about it by clicking this story: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/politics/content/local_news/epaper/2007/03/02/= c 1c_NATURISTS_0302.html
Pasco County Nudist Clubs Flex their Economic Muscles
Today the St. Petersburg Times carried a story about how the nudist clubs i= n Pasco County have teamed up together to promote their role in the local economy. Read the following story about circulating two dollar bills! http://www.sptimes.com/2007/03/02/Pasco/Nudists_show_their_cl.shtml=20
—————————–=20
Carolyn Hawkins, Public Relations Coordinator=20
Carolyn is out of town. She will give a full report next week.=20
—————————–=20=20
Linda Berry, Director of Publications
The April issue of THE BULLETIN is in production.
—————————–=20
Patricia Orner, Government Affairs Coordinator
Join the AANR Grassroots Action Center
Sign up today with AANR's Legislative Action Center. Help us capitalize on our grassroots strength so you can easily communicate issues that matter to your club and members to policymakers.=20
This latest benefit of AANR membership is available now directly from www.aanr.com <http://www.aanr.com/> on the Member Benefits and Government Affairs pages. Look for the Capwiz link on the government affairs page. We will soon send a confirmation e-mail to those members who have provided us with e-mail addresses, requesting confirmation that they want to access legislative awareness alerts.
GREAT OUTDOORS WEEK
Plans have been started for the annual AANR GAT team participation in Great Outdoors Week. The American Recreation Coalition (ARC) has announced the dates of June 11-14, and to date the team has five of the six AANR Regions represented. At the ARC events, AANR volunteers and staff will network with National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, USDA Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation, and many recreation industry leaders to educate on our mission. They will b= e meeting with key members of Congress from states where they reside as well as those states where legislation or issues have been requested from members. Now is the time to let your GAT chairs know if there are any contacts your club wants made.
IN SESSION=20 =09 There are 43 states, D.C. and U.S. in Regular Session. DE is in budget hearings. PA is in budget hearings. AL =93a=94 is in Special Session=20 =09 Staff pulled from State Net and Cap Wiz and reviewed 203 state and 7 federa= l bills this week and referred several to GAT Regional Chairs for consideration including:
AR HB 1473, AR HB 1458, AZ SB 1329, CA AB 31, CA AB 63,
CA SB 4, FL SB 1842, FL SB 1800, HI HB 1784, HI SB 628,
HI SB 894, IA D 1519, IA D 1096, IA D 1649, MO SB 129,
NY AB 1174, NJ AB 677, OH SB 16, OH SB 18, TX SB 78
CAPE COD CLEANUP=20
Donations are now being accepted to ensure that this year=92s cleanup will = be the biggest ever. Plans include invitations to all Massachusetts lawmakers to join in as volunteers and rangers work side by side maintaining a sectio= n of the Cape Cod National Seashore. AANR and AANR East will again supply beverages, T-shirts and buttons. On-site cooking of lunch by AANR members and Lakeville owners of J&J Seafood Restaurant, Roger and Hope Pinard, is a= n addition that is appreciated. Roger has told me and Bill Falconer that he already has a generous donation from Lake Como.
