Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
Thanks to Lake Como for a GREAT Board Meeting
I enjoyed seeing many of you last week during the mid-winter meeting=20 of AANR's Board of Trustees. It's evident from the many detailed=20 committee reports presented, that there are exciting things happening=20 with our Association this year. From Government Affairs to enhancing=20 AANR's brand through Public Relations, to updates on the marketing=20 consultant program, there was plenty to talk about.
=20
I deeply appreciate the warm welcome that Lake Como club extended to=20 us and its excellent service. The club has added some great=20 amenities and facilities since our last meeting there, too.=20
=20
Yes! ANOTHER Participating Business Signs on with AANR
Be sure to read Carolyn Hawkins' report below for details on AANR's=20 arrangement with Budget Rent A Car, the latest corporation to=20 affiliate with us as a participating business. In addition to=20 qualifying for member savings every time you rent, Budget will remit=20 a donation to AANR. So you win two ways! Now, you can opt for=20 member savings on virtually any car you plan on renting–Budget,=20 Avis, Hertz, or Alamo. Most are listed (along with booking=20 information) right on the back of your AANR membership card. You can=20 also log into the member benefits page on aanr.com for all savings=20 codes and kwik links to the sites you need.
=20
As equally important as the savings, these corporate partners help us=20 to mainstream nude recreation as a customary part of the travel=20 market.
=20
Way to go Carolyn for the extra effort that made this arrangement=20 with Budget possible!
=20
E-Bulletin distributed to nearly 9,000 email addresses
Yesterday AANR sent its debut issue of the E-Bulletin to most of the=20 email addresses on file for current members. In many cases, two or=20 more members in a household share one address, so the "mailing"=20 reached out to about 12,500 active members with active emails. About=20 40% of those sent messages have already opened their copies, with=20 many linking to the stories and information referenced therein.
=20
This issue of the E-Bulletin closely resembles the one that many of=20 you got a sneak peak at two weeks ago, but also includes an=20 invitation to visit AANR's Cap Wiz government affairs site.
=20
Active members wishing to be added to the distribution list can sign=20 up using the box in the members benefits section of our website=20 (enter with your last name and p number at=20 http://www.aanr.com/members.html ).=20=20
=20
Those who wish to be removed from the list 05 opt out with a very=20 simple process explained in every message. Moreover, those who have=20 directed AANR to send "no mail" to them in the past were removed=20 prior to the mailing, as well as certain Canadian addresses in=20 observance of privacy laws in place there (see below).=20
=20
An Important Message to our Members in Canada
In consideration of the Canadian Privacy Act, AANR has refrained from=20 sending an unsolicited copy of the E-Bulletin to our Canadian=20 friends. You can easily request to be added to our distribution list=20 just by visiting AANR's members only services area at=20 http://www.aanr.com/members.html (just use your last name and P=20 Number as explained). Look for the easy to use, one line=20 registration box.
=20
Sandpipers Club of Texas Gets Visit from the Houston Chronicle
This month Kristin Finin, a reporter/blogger with this major=20 newspaper "hit the road" in her RV to explore parts of Texas. Her=20 travels included a visit to Sandpipers near Edinburgh, and she=20 documents her experience with a video clip that you can download by=20 visiting here: http://blogs.chron.com/hittheroad/ (Scroll to the=20 bottom of the page to see this story, the video takes a while to=20 load.)
=20
Carolyn Hawkins, Public Relations Coordinator=20
SUCCESSFUL CRUISE
Congrats to Tom & Nancy and Bare Necessities for a successful=20 cruise. AANR representatives were available to answer questions,=20 speak with current members and sign up new ones. Check out the link=20 below for cruise mention on AOL
http://information.travel.aol.com/features/cruise
=20
Convention update
The agenda and schedule for the August convention will be available=20 on line in early March. If you plan to attend the convention get=20 your registration in early. In the next couple of weeks I will have=20 rental car information and local hotel information included in my=20 report.=20=20
=20
NUDE RECREATION WEEK (NRW)
We are in the process of creating the press release for Nude=20 Recreation Week. I encourage your club to get activities planned=20 early so you can be included when members call for information on=20 NRW. Open houses are very good and inexpensive. We will also have a=20 template release for your club to you use where you can insert the=20 club information and contact person.=20=20
=20
ALASKA NUDE CRUISE
The Alaska nude cruise is coming up in July. Again I am requesting=20 club brochures be sent to the AANR office. I still have a few left,=20 but we can always use them in our display rack at the AANR office.=20=20
=20
NEW PARTNER=20
AANR has partnered with Budget Rent A Car, which you will see in=20 Erich's report. If you would like to use Budget, the toll free=20 number is 1-800-527-0700 and the code is BCD S203527. In next week's=20 report I will have a link to Budget.
=20
PUBLICITY
We are still sending out releases and pitch stories. I will update=20 you as the response comes in.
=20
We continue to work with a show called "Spotlight On" and will keep=20 you posted.
=20
Linda Berry, Director of Publications
THE BULLETIN
The April issue is coming together. There's a nice variety of stories=20 that you won't want to miss.=20
=20
The Cyber-Bulletin
Check out the March issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, at=20 http://www.aanr.com/cyber_bulletin.html
=20
FTP SITE ON WWW.AANR.COM
For Bulletin advertisers who need to submit large files, we have a=20 new File Transfer Protocol (FTP) site to handle files up to 35 mg.=20 Contact Martha Young at bulletinads@aanr.com for additional=20 information.=20
=20
YOUTH AMBASSADOR PROGRAM=20=20=20=20=20=20=20
I have the story for the April Bulletin, and Judy Grisham and I are=20 working on the application that will be put on the AANR web site.=20 We'll provide more information to you next week.=20
=20
Nanette Wickersham, Club/Member Liaison
There are no directory changes this week.=20
=20
Patricia Orner, Government Affairs Coordinator: FL "a", JAMES RL "a",=20
MIDWINTER BOARD MEETING
Last Friday at the AANR Midwinter Board Meeting, I presented, on=20 behalf of the GAT team, a comprehensive written report and an oral=20 overview. It was met with positive feedback from the trustees.
=20
GREAT OUTDOORS WEEK
Plans have started for the annual June trip to Great Outdoors Week in=20 Washington, D.C. The success that AANR achieved, thanks to a great=20 presentation by Danielle Faber at Partners Outdoors 2007, will be=20 leveraged at this event that will highlight the federal=20 administrations goals of getting more American youth involved in=20 outdoor activities.
=20
LEGISLATIVE ACTION=20
All clubs are needed to get the word out about the latest tool in our=20 GAT/CAT arsenal =96 The AANR Legislative Action Center. Members wishing=20 to receive alerts on legislative issues, those who want to check who=20 their seated politicians are, and/or all CAT's NEED to visit the Web=20 site as soon as possible and make sure the correct email address is=20 set up. This latest benefit of AANR membership is available now=20 directly from www.aanr.com on the MEMBER BENEFITS and GOVERNMENT=20 AFFAIRS pages.
=20
Several ordinances at the county and city level are popping up across=20 the country defining licensing for sexually oriented businesses=20 (SOB). AANR continues to carefully watch these to ensure that=20 definitions and cross references to other regulations do not result=20 in unintended consequences. To fight this battle effectively, the CAT=20 network needs to be completed. Your AANR GAT/CAT Regional Chair needs=20 help in building this vital infrastructure. It requires eyes and ears=20 on the ground reading local newspapers, listening to local news=20 reports, attending local governmental meetings, letting the team know=20 where they 05 be positioned for influence or that they are willing=20 to become part of the team. I am so excited that calls are coming in=20 from potential CATs =96 but many, many, MANY more are needed.
=20
AANR GAT SW chair, Gary Spangler is working closely in TX with AANR=20 SW GA Committee head, Bob Morton, to ensure that TX HB 1466 does not=20 impede on the rights of non SOB business entities. I have also=20 flagged TX HB 202, TX SB 78 and TX HB 880 for evaluation of=20 unintended consequences and poorly structured definitions.
=20
Lobbyist Don Murphy who works for AANR and AANR East in MD reports=20 that a bill introduced there recently meant to discourage replicas of=20 anatomical appendages hanging from the back of pickup trucks =96 got=20 out of hand. The unintended consequences of this proposed legislation=20 could keep the AANR bare butt cartoon character used on the popular=20 auto magnets as well as the Coppertone girl off of moving vehicles.=20
=20
AANR GAT West Chair, Debra Sue Stevens, is monitoring a situation=20 where Rangers have reportedly by NAC alert threatened to impede=20 simple nude recreation in Southern CA.
=20
AANR NW Chair, Shirley Gauthier, and WA state chair, Steve Hubbard,=20 are preparing again for the popular UnClad Art Festival. Shirley is=20 also part of the team preparing for the AANR annual convention at the=20 Willies. AANR staff met at the office this week with auction chair,=20 Linda Johnson, and the plans for both a silent and live auction are=20 coming really well. Be sure to read the article in the April edition=20 of The Bulletin on this exciting development and visit the GA page on=20 www.aanr.com to download the donation form if you already know what=20 your club will contribute.
=20
AANR/FANR GAT Chair, Debra Kay Hedding, continues to work with=20 lobbyist Bob Levy and Richard Mason of SFFB/FNA and their lobbyist on=20 FL HB 269.=20
