Willamettans GAT hosts Senator Bill Morrisette<br>Submitted by: Shirley Gauthier-AANR-NW GAT Chair<br>=20 Oregon State Senator Bill Morrisette will speak at The Willamettans=20 Family Nudist Resort near Marcola, Oregon on October 15 at 1:00 pm.=20=20<br>The Senator has agreed to speak and plans to bring his wife Janice=20 who he has been married to for over 50 years. There is a=20 possibility he 05 be joined by his legislative aid Don Bishoff a=20 retired columnist for the Register Guard.<br>=20 Many Willamettan members 05 remember the Senator as he taught in=20 the Springfield School District from 1962-1990. On a previous visit=20 to the Willamettans the Senator recalled teaching students whose=20 home address was The Willamettans resort. Senator Morrisette a=20 retired teacher taught in the Springfield School District from 1962- 90. The Senator served on the Springfield City Council in 1989-89.=20=20 Following his City Council contributions he then served the City of=20 Springfield as Mayor from 1989-1999. His political career then=20 took him to the capitol in Salem where he served Oregonians as a=20 State Representative from 1999-2001. Senator Morrisette is=20 currently seeking re-election to his Senate seat, which, he has held=20 since 2001.=20<br>=20<br>The Senator founded or co-founded the following; Springfield Filbert=20 Festival; Springfield-Eugene Habitat for Humanity; Project Starfish;=20 Springfield Sports Center; Mayor's Child Abuse Task Force; Mayor's=20 Housing Task Force; Springfield Community Development Corp.=20=20<br>=20<br>Some of the Senators awards include; Springfield Chamber of Commerce=20 Distinguished Citizen of the Year, 1997; Eugene City Club's Turtle=20 Award (for willingness to stick his neck out), 1995; Oregon Mayor of=20 the Year, 1994; Lane County Elected Official of the Year, 1992.=20<br>=20<br>Janice Morrisette also shares an interest in politics. Janice=20 joined the Lane Council of Governments (LCOG) in the early 1990's.=20=20 This voluntary association of local governments in Lane County,=20 Oregon is dedicated to solving area-wide problems. Janice also=20 served as Board Director for the Willamalane Park &amp; Recreation=20 District. =20<br>It was Janice who welcomed a group of Willamettans at the front desk=20 of the Senators office at the capitol a few years ago. =20<br>The Senator and Janice have eight children, 13 grandchildren, and=20 three great-grandchildren.=20=20<br> You do not have to be a member of the Willamettans to attend their=20 October 15th general assembly meeting.
