AANR Weekly Report For August 25, 2006

By admin at 2:55 am on August 26, 2006 | No comments

Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
=20 Update on cArolyn hawkins
Carolyn has asked me to thank everyone for the cards, flowers, e- mails, thoughts and prayers. She continues to improve and is=20 scheduled to go to a rehabilitation center this weekend. Linda Berry=20 continues to visit her on a daily basis and will keep you posted as=20 to Carolyn's progress.=20
=20
Thanks to All for a GREAT Convention
The staff deeply appreciates the hard work of the many members and=20 volunteers who made the 75th Anniversary Celebration at De Anza=20 Springs such a success. We extend special thanks to Dave and Helen=20 Landman and their club on a job very well done. Thanks to very=20 quick work by your Secretary Sharon McLeod, minutes from the AANR=20 Convention are on the AANR Web site in the download zone of the=20 member benefits section as well as the club services section.=20
=20
AANR Wraps Up Attendance at National Conference of State Legislatures
Last week AANR PR Chair Susan Weaver, AANR Government Affairs=20 Coordinator Pat Orner, and Cameron Bennett, a dedicated member from=20 Nashville, joined me in working the Association's booth at this=20 important conference. AANR has been attending each year for the=20 past 15 years, and we have distributed a different lapel pin at each=20 for the past 12.=20=20
=20
The event provides us with an opportunity to speak to hundreds of=20 state lawmakers and their staff, as well as other vendors. In all,=20 6,000 people were expected to have participated. Highlights will=20 appear in an upcoming edition of The Bulletin, but a couple bear=20 mention here:
=20
First, AANR got some great press for our appearance from The=20 Tennessean, the major newspaper which serves the state (it replaced=20 the Nashville Banner, which some of you 05 have known, some years=20 ago). That story included a reproduction of our pin including web=20 address, the statement that we're the "credible voice of reason for=20 nude recreation," plus facts and figures.=20
=20
Second, our daily drawings for a chance to win a "Caution: Clothes=20 05 Come Off Without Warning" T-Shirt was a big hit, with hopefuls=20 dropping in their business cards.
=20
Finally, as events were wrapping up, we received a visit from a=20 lawmaker in a southern state who happened to also be a church pastor=20 from a mainstream denomination. He was very interested–and=20 genuinely impressed–in the wholesome, body affirming nature of what=20 we do, and indicated that he had been (and would try to continue)=20 sending a natural, wholesome message about the human body in sermons=20 to his congregation.
=20
These are but a few glimpses at why NCSL presents such a great=20 chance for us.
=20
Reminder: AANR Committee Budgets are Needed By
September 30th
It's budget time again this year. And we want to be sure that=20 consideration is given to AANR committees in 2007 in your draft=20 budgets. Please submit information to our Financial Supervisor=20 Cindy Horton at FinDir@aanr.com. As always, members of our staff=20 are here to assist with historical information and obtaining figures=20 for proposed projects. Please let us know how we can help.
=20
TRAVEL FOR NOVEMBER BOARD MEETING
Because Friday, November 10, is Veterans Day and a holiday, you are=20 encouraged to make flight reservations as soon as possible.=20
=20
GREAT PRESS IN TEXAS
Kudos to AANR Southwest President Lucy Hide and the team at Natural=20 Horisun in Texas on a GREAT article in the Houston Press. They even=20 managed to get this reporter to ditch his shorts and give nude=20 recreation a try. Read a copy of the story by clicking here:=20 http://www.houstonpress.com/Issues/2006-08-17/calendar/beenthere.html
=20
Linda Berry, Director of Publications
=20
The Bulletin
October is in production, and the new Cyber-Bulletin is online at=20 http://www.aanr.com/cyber_bulletin.html
=20
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS AT AANR CONVENTION
In your registration packet at the convention, there was an insert=20 titled, Your Most Memorable Convention Moment. If you did not turn=20 yours in at DeAnza and would like to contribute your comments,=20 please e-mail them to me at editor@aanr.com no later than August=20 28th. The comments will appear in the October issue of The Bulletin.=20
=20
GREETINGS FROM GEORGE AND NANCY VOLAK
This is an excerpt from the e-mail I received from the Volaks this=20 week.
"All here is going very well except for the fact that our cat,=20 Skeeter, has decided he does not like the Czech language or Czech=20 people. Go figure! George is out cutting the grass right now. He=20 has to be careful since three sheep showed up this morning and have=20 decided they would rather live here than wherever they came from. I=20 am hoping their owner shows up soon. I told George to wait to cut=20 the grass…the sheep can do it for him. Skeeter does not approve. I=20 think the sheep "baaaa" in Czech. Please tell everyone I send my=20 very best regards and hellos to one and all."=20=20
=20
Patricia Orner =96 Government Affairs Coordinator
SILENT AUCTION=20
I am happy to report that the silent auction brought in nearly=20 $10,000, and some bids are still coming in. Thanks to the AANR West=20 Silent Auction Team =96 it just would not have happened without the=20 help of each of you. If you did not pick up your actual certificate=20 and you won a stay =96 these will be mailed to the winners early next=20 week.
The baton has passed to AANR NW GAT/CAT Chair Shirley Gauthier for=20 the 2007 event at The Willamettans. It is never too early to let us=20 know what your club can donate to make this vital fun fundraiser a=20 success.=20
GA/LEGAL TABLE AT COMMITTEE FAIRE=20
Many stopped by the GAT/CAT table, took information, and spoke with=20 Alonzo Stevens. Much good feedback on the GA training sessions was=20 received.
The "Can-Can Cans" were not the hottest item. The actual dancing was=20 changed due to the unfortunate airport security mess from 2 p.m. to=20 10 a.m. on Saturday and well=85..Although the photo-op was priceless =96=20 the contributions were below expectations. It is rumored that a=20 certain photo of all three fearless donors (Erich Schuttauf, John=20 Kinman, and Alonzo Stevens) in full costume might be a hot item in=20 the 2007 auction.
Tour On Cooperative Conservation
The listening sessions on cooperative conservation and environmental=20 partnerships was expanded now to 15. If you have volunteers who=20 would like to attend and be our "ears," give me a call or e-mail me=20 at government@aanr.com and I will send you the latest list. It is a=20 perfect opportunity to have your CATs appear and request to make the=20 AANR mission and position known. Talking points and AANR pins will=20 be made available to your volunteers.=20
=20
NCSL
The 2007 event will be held in Boston, and AANR has already set the=20 stage for a message of Cape Cod as another beach success like=20 Haulover Beach and the positive financial impact of AANR clubs like=20 Berkshire Vista Resort, Sandy Terraces Associates, and Sunchasers=20 Travel Club on the local economy.=20
=20
Call your state legislators and let them know you hope that they=20 stopped by the AANR booth. If they did not and want an information=20 packet (and a pin), get the details to me and I will see that one is=20 sent.
=20
I cannot say enough about this completely positive experience. Look=20 for more details in the October edition of The Bulletin.
=20
Nanette Wickersham, Club/Member Liaison
Directory changes for addresses and phone numbers from this week=20 {were included in the officers copy of this email but not included=20 in the AANR-NW enews copy -ed.}.=20

Volleyball on Oregon Beach

By admin at 7:42 am on August 18, 2006 | No comments

Nude Volleyball on Oregon Beach
Submitted by: Shirley Gauthier

Rooster Rock State Park was the place to be in Oregon August 5 for nude volleyball.
AANR-NW volleyball players Dick Post and Gary Mitchell organized a group of volleyball players to participate in the AANR-NW GAT beach work weekend. Oregon State Park employee Glenn Littrell was prepared with poles, net and a posthole digger to install the volleyball net. The volleyball players made it very clear that once the volleyball net was up they would be too distracted by volleyball to work on other projects. Some participants mentioned the possibility of an annual AANR-NW Rooster Rock volleyball tournament so stay tuned.
Volunteers, after setting up on the beach close to the water, installed the volleyball poles, completed several litter patrols and cleared the stairs to the beach of sand, which is an annual chore due to the winds on the Columbia Gorge. Brad Landon has taken ownership of the annual stair cleaning and quickly volunteered for this physical job along with a Volunteer of the Gorge.
What started out as a beach clean up at Rooster Rock State Park in Oregon has grown into an annual weekend gathering of nudist friends. Nudists who share their love of Rooster Rock and Sauvie Island nude beaches give up the first weekend of August each year to work together on Oregon's two legal nude beaches to advocate nude recreation on public lands and preserve the beaches.
Sauvie Island's nude beach received volunteer attention the following day August 6. Oregon Fish and Wildlife Department has suggested that we focus our volunteer attention on the parking area and gravel road to the beach. Upon arriving and before setting up on the beach we cleaned the areas and chatted with local beach users arriving to recreate for the day. Thanks to Mountaindale Sun Resort's purchase of a set of horseshoes several years ago we all enjoyed the challenge of playing horseshoes barefoot in the hot sand.
Mountaindale Sun Resort's support of AANR-NW GAT provides an extra incentive for those participating in the event. Mountaindale Sun Resort gives each event participant free grounds fees for the weekend and provides delicious low cost meals to those that participate. Mountaindale Sun Resort is a short distance from Sauvie Island nude beach and the perfect location for those wishing to participate in both beach work events.
The Willamettans Family Nudist Resort (home of the AANR 2007 convention) provided sausage dogs, sauerkraut, condiments, bottled water, charcoal and napkins for the beach cleanup weekend. Squaw Mountain Ranch resort provided financial assistance and t-shirts for the raffle.
The barbecue at both beaches provides volunteers an opportunity to socialize after completing work projects. The smell of hotdogs and the AANR flags blowing in the wind draws other beach users over to chat and ask for information. It was a surprise when a man joined us because after seeing the AANR flags he had them confused with AARP and said he thought it great we had gathered as a group in the nude.
Volunteers in the Gorge (http://www.volunteersinthegorge.org/) and AANR-NW GAT have over the years nurtured a working relationship. The Volunteers in the Gorge website reports that "Volunteers in the Gorge was formed through a partnership between the Oregon State Police and the Oregon State Parks." The program was established to utilize citizen volunteers to work within the Columbia River Gorge national Scenic Area. Volunteers in the Gorge is a unique group of trained individuals who preserve and protect resources, discourage criminal behavior and provide support and information to state park users. It mattered little to the Volunteers in the Gorge that we would be working in the nude. AANR has gained members who now complain that at the beach cleanups they must wear their "Volunteer in the Gorge" t-shirts!
Friends of AANR over the years committed to the beach events with volunteer hours, energy and financial support. Beach events are a great way to promote AANR and advocate for nudism on public lands.
SOLV (http://solv.org/) Oregon's largest volunteer group has over 3,000 volunteers who have adopted over 700 miles of river within their adopt-a-river program. SOLV provides the litter bags, first-aid kits, and a place on their website to advertise our beach clean ups. In addition to AANR's adoption of Sauvie Island (Collins Beach) and Rooster Rock State Park in SOLV's adopt-a-river program AANR enjoys and values our adoption of Rooster Rock State Park within the Oregon State Park adopt-a-park program.
This year's beach weekend competed with the AANR convention being held at DeAnza Springs Resort. While we missed some of the regular volunteers we thank all the new volunteers and regulars who generously gave their time and energy. Volunteers traveled up to 3-4 hours drive to participate and gather with friends for a common goal. Thank you to those who send checks in support of AANR's work to promote nudity on public lands. If you would like to be a part of or support the continued AANR beach success you can do so by mailing a check made out to AANR-NW GAT, % AANR-NW Treasurer-Darrel Brown, POB 937, Marcola, Oregon 97454. Raffle prizes are always welcomed and a great way to advertise your resort or club and can be mailed to AANR-NW GAT Chair Shirley Gauthier at The Willamettans Family Nudist Resort, POB 969, Marcola, Oregon 97454 or better yet bring them with you to next years AANR convention!

His challenge has already been accepted by John Kinman and Alonzo Stevens. The "Can-Can Cans" will be at our committee table on Thursday, August 10, from 2-4 p.m., and we can accept your contributions for this fun fundraiser and post your contribution if you are not going to be at convention. It is a neat way for your club to be recognized as a GA/Legal support entity.

Tour On Cooperative Conservation
The first eight listening sessions on cooperative conservation and environmental partnerships were announced on Friday by the Bush administration. At least four more sessions will be added later. You can download the entire article and current list on the GA web page. "The listening sessions are aimed to teach the administration how the government can "better respect the interests of people with ownership in land, water and other natural resources," the administration said earlier this month {subscription needed for this link – ed. } E&E NewsPM <http://www.eenews.net/eenewspm/2006/07/12/archive/5/> , July 12)." This is a perfect opportunity to have your CAT's appear and request to make the AANR mission and position know.

NCSL
The week after convention, AANR will once again take our message to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). Erich Schuttauf, Susan Weaver, and I will be manning the AANR booth (# 607 =96 and the fourth space from the main entrance), August 16-18. This excellent placement is not at all by chance. Booth selection is a process regulated by a formula which considers the number of times an organization has attended the conference, the number of years as exhibitors, and the level of advertising participation. For AANR to place this high reflects a serious and mutually beneficial partnership.

The 2006 Annual Meeting & Exhibition will be held in Nashville, Tennessee, with a country theme of "Strong States Strong Nation." The AANR message will complement this with Strong Family Values =96 Strong Community Support =96 Strong Media Recognition =96 Strong Government Affairs Team in a patriotic red/white/blue presentation. Pre-show marketing to the contacts collected at the 2005 booth has already resulted in requests for the traditional AANR pins to be sent to attendees unable to make the show. Call your state legislators and let them know to be sure to stop by booth 607 and register for a daily drawing of a classic "Caution" T-shirt and informational materials. If they won't be going =96 let them know we still care, and I will gladly see that they get the pin and materials sent directly to them on your behalf after the show.

–9-5456034130-3131076726=:6 Content-Type: text/html;
