The schedule is now available in the GA section at www.aanr.com
SILENT AUCTION AT DE ANZA SPRINGS
The event has become so big that the auction has been moved to Saturday from noon to 4:00 pm. Debra Sue Stevens and the Silent Auction Committee NEED to hear from more donors. Creativity = more fun = more $$$$$$$$
GA/LEGAL TABLE AT COMMITTEE FAIRE
Erich Schuttauf has agreed that – with a high enough bid – he will perform the can-can (this is NOT a clothing-optional bid item as the dance will be in traditional Can-Can attire). His challenge has already been accepted by John Kinman and Alonzo Stevens. The "Can-Can Cans" will be at our committee table on Thursday, August 10 from 2-4 p.m., and we can accept your contributions for this fun fundraiser and post your contribution if you are not going to be at convention. It is a neat way for your club to be recognized as a GA/Legal support entity.
ALEC
Steve and Linda Payne represented AANR as attendees at ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Council) annual meeting, July 19-23, in San Francisco. One highlight was the presentation in person to Sen. Janet Greenip (MD) of the 2005 Paradise Lakes Government Affairs Award plaque. Look for this and other ALEC details in an upcoming issue of The Bulletin.
NCSL
The week after convention, AANR will once again take our message to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). Erich Schuttauf, Susan weaver, and I will be manning the AANR booth (# 607 – and the fourth space from the main entrance), August 16-18. This excellent placement is not at all by chance. Booth selection is a process regulated by a formula which considers the number of times an organization has attended the conference, the number of years as exhibitors, and the level of advertising participation. For AANR to place this high reflects a serious and mutually beneficial partnership.
The 2006 Annual Meeting & Exhibition will be held in Nashville, Tennessee, with a country theme of "Strong States Strong Nation." The AANR message will complement this with Strong Family Values – Strong Community Support – Strong Media Recognition – Strong Government Affairs Team in a patriotic red/white/blue presentation. Pre-show marketing to the contacts collected at the 2005 booth has already resulted in requests for the traditional AANR pins to be sent to attendees unable to make the show. Call your state legislators and let them know to be sure to stop by booth 607 and register for a daily drawing of a classic "Caution" T-shirt and informational materials. If they won't be going – let them know we still care, and I will gladly see that they get the pin and materials sent directly to them on your behalf after the show.

AANR Weekly Report for July 21, 2006

By admin at 8:31 am on | No comments

AANR Weekly Report for July 21, 2006
Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
KUDOS – to AANR East and the staff and volunteers of the "SS White Tail" on the success of their 2006 regional convention. AANR Vice President-Elect George Morrison and I very much appreciated the club's hospitality to us and its strong volunteer spirit which made this such a great event.
The White Tail team decorated a patio area with strung lights resembling what one would find on a cruise ship, along with an impressive "faux bow" of a ship complete with mermaid figure, and even blue rock in adjacent areas to resemble an ocean view! At various times during the day, guests were directed to "look off the starboard or port bow" for an imaginary look at Jamaica, the Bahamas, or other tropic port. Fun events like "the nudely wed game" and "nudist jeopardy" rounded out a program of dances, karaoke, a real deep sea fishing trip, plus a visit from "Swami George [Morrison]" about the future of nude recreation and my presentation on being more confident telling your neighbor that you're a nudist.
So, to Bob Roche and his White Tail team, plus AANR East President Susan Weaver, please accept my thanks and congratulations for such a memorable time.
AANR Helping Members – Please read this for a better understanding of the many ways that AANR provides advocacy.
During the past two weeks, our office has received a considerable number of calls seeking legal information or assistance of some form. This 05 be due to the fact that nude recreation is in peak season in many places, the fact that school children are out on summer vacation (triggering more family issues), or the fact that AANR continues to get the word out that we're here to be a resource to members with questions or difficulties.
Whatever the combination of factors 05 be, here's a recap of the assistance we've provided in numerous cases. and remember that it's just within these past two weeks:
Employment – You 05 recall that a member on the East Coast was facing an investigation and possible disciplinary action for discussing nude recreation in the workplace. This week we're happy to report that, after our working with his attorney (whom fellow nudists assisted him with locating), this member has been restored to his position!
Club Permits – Further west, an AANR club reported some difficulty with local officials over permits and licensing. We are actively working with the club's owner as well as a local professional to keep a dialog going with officials to find both short-term and long term solutions to the issue.
Neighbors – Our office provided guidance to a member in Michigan about creative ways for enjoying nudity on her (multiple acre) property without offending, or escalating a dispute with, neighbors.
Marriage – A Florida member called noting concerns that his wife would try to bring up his visitation to nudist parks in a way that would cast him in a bad light during proceedings to dissolve their marriage. No children were involved in this situation, although you'll find several child custody cases below.
Child Custody/Visitation to AANR Parks – We provided information, referrals to qualified legal counsel, spoke with attorneys acting on behalf of members, and/or sent extensive legal information packages to members, in.
California – AANR provided a married couple of members with the name and contact information of a qualified attorney to handle family and custody issues in southern California that would also have some understanding of nudism. We had a second call from within the state this week: it came from a different member with similar needs. That member happened to also be an attorney and sought a package of our material so that he could consider his options.
Georgia – We're making arrangements to talk with the attorney for a member who wishes to bring his 11- and 14-year-old daughters to clubs although an ex-spouse insists that nude recreation not even be mentioned in their presence.
Florida – Our office had in-depth discussions with legal counsel who is assisting a married couple who have had their participation in nude recreation raised in a child custody equation involving an ex-spouse. I might add that this counsel came from a top shelf Florida firm who was nonetheless very impressed with the resources AANR makes available. Elsewhere in Florida, a father of two dropped in for an information package after wondering out loud whether his ex-spouse could make an issue out of visits.
Kansas – After a married couple with a family had some reservations over whether they were vulnerable to a claim they are unfit parents if others learned of their visits to nudist parks, some fellow members suggested they contact us. There were some added concerns because one child involved had some learning disabilities. We offered basic information and agreed to speak with an attorney they've used for other matters in the past should it become necessary.
Pennsylvania – AANR has offered to speak with the attorney of a member who seeks to have a previous custody agreement (which restricted the practice of nude recreation) modified now that the member's child is older, able to have his own opinion on the subject, and would like to visit.
By my count, this makes 11 situations – from nearly as many states – involving members who needed credible information and a place to turn. Having sat in on many of the telephone conferences in these matters, I can tell you that having a toll free number to call and speak with someone who understands makes a world of difference to these folks in need. Thanks for making it possible to be their credible voice.
Ye Olde Committee Faire Ye Olde Committee Faire . Make that the latest and greatest in committee faires . will be held once again during the AANR Convention at De Anza Springs. AANR Committee Chairs are asked to prepare a table display, handouts, and other information of interest to members to help educate them about what our various teams do. Please plan to set up the items on your tables and staff them from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday of convention week.
Carolyn Hawkins, Public Relations Coordinator
CONVENTION INFORMATION
Helen Landman is putting together a trip to the zoo. DeAnza's phone number is 619-766-4301 or 877-246-6833.
I am still looking for funny stories or unusual experiences for the 75th convention.
Convention is getting very near. If you have not made your reservation please do so as soon as possible. "It will be a blast from the past." I am including the hotel contact information for the area.
Lux Inn – approximately 7 miles from DeAnza (619) 766-9005 39739 Avenida De Robles Verdes Boulevard, CA 91905 Room rate is $260.00 for the week, or $59.40 per night
Publicity We have had interviews regarding NRW from the following newspapers: Detroit Free Press http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060716/NEW S07/607160620/1009" "Bearing Taxes to Bare it All"
http://www.travelmole.com/stories/109796.php?mpnlog=1 The naked truth about nude resorts
I had a very positive radio interviews regarding general nude recreation with a classic rock station out of Prince George, BC, Canada.
I have interviews scheduled with KWSS 106.7 regarding "Picnicking in the Nude." Additional interviews scheduled are with WMJI and WEOL out of Cleveland, Ohio, and WWJ out of Detroit, Michigan, all regarding the growth of nude recreation.
Congratulations to so many clubs that had interviews during Nude Recreation Week. If your club CAT team wants to do a political panel and invite candidates to tell your members why they should get their votes – Call me or let Shirley Gauthier know if you want buttons.
ALEC Steve and Linda Payne are currently representing AANR as attendees at the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) annual meeting, July 19-23, in San Francisco.
NCSL The week after convention, AANR will once again take our message to The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), August 16-18. The 2006 Annual Meeting & Exhibition will be held in Nashville, Tennessee, with a theme of "Strong States Strong Nation."

OR State Senator Vicki Walker to visit Willamettans

By admin at 7:07 am on July 21, 2006 | No comments
Oregon State Senator Vicki Walker will be visiting the Willamettans at their August 20 General Assembly meeting. You 05 remember Vicki from her recent exploratory campaign for Oregon Governor or you might remember Vicki from her two previous visits to the Willamettans. Vicki has been clear that she is committed towards our right to enjoy and appreciate nude recreation. Vicki is campaigning to retain her Senate seat.
Vicki was elected to the Oregon House of Representatives in 1998 where she served two terms. In 2002, voters in Lane County elected her to the Oregon State Senate. It has been reported that her campaign to retain her Senate seat will be one of the most targeted and one of the most costly in the State of Oregon. Unlike many candidates Vicki works full time as a court reporter. No big personal dollars to finance her campaign. Vicki is relying on a grassroots effort to not only finance her campaign but to create a volunteer base to help complete door to door canvassing, phone banks, envelope stuffing and many other necessary campaign work.
AANR members have contributed financially to Vicki Walker in the past and know that no check is too small to make a difference. Oregon residents are entitled to a tax credit on their state tax returns for political contributions up to $50 for individual and $100 for joint returns each year. If you wish to contribute please make your check out to Vicki Walker for State Senate and mail it to Shirley Gauthier, 538 West M Street, Springfield, Oregon 97477.
Join us at the Willamettans August 20 at 12:30 PM to meet and greet Oregon State Senator Vicki Walker and her Campaign Manager Sheri Susee.

Presentation at Eugene City Club

By admin at 7:05 am on July 17, 2006 | No comments
Libertarian Tonie Nathan solicited Shirley Gauthier for a speaker to do a presentation at the Eugene City Club meeting. Check out Tonie by going to http://www.boogieonline.com/revolution/by_name/N/TonieNathan .html. Shirley immediately knew that AANR President Pat Brown was the person best suited for this opportunity. Shirley asked Tonie to call Pat. Pat had one foot out the door on her way to catch a flight to Florida. Pat explained she would be happy to do it but that she did not have time to get a bio requested by Tonie for the City Club newsletter ready by the press deadline. The City Club has over 500 members and has an extensive newsletter subscriber list. In addition, the newsletter is available online.
Thanks to Pat Orner and Linda Berry at the AANR office we were able to get a bio to Tonie Nathan in time for the newsletter deadline. Not only did they get the bio to Tonie in time they had a great time creating it together. The Eugene City Club has over 500 members and their newsletter is also available online.
In order to get the full impact of this event please check out the Eugene City Club website at http://www.cityclubofeugene.org/index.html. Notice the only requirement for membership to the Eugene City Club is that you have an open mind.
After she arrived at the Downtown Athletic Club on July 14, the first person to introduce herself to Pat was Eugene City Councilor Betty Taylor. City Club President Rick Dancer a local TV News Anchor spent time with Pat before the meeting chatting and gathering information for his introduction.
While Pat's speech was informative and contained information most valuable to promote AANR and The Willamettans Family Nudist resort it was her passion and enthusiasm that captivated the audience. Pat's speech was interrupted by applause many times! Lane County Commission Bobby Green asked the first question during the question and answer period.
AANR President elect and also The Willamettans Family Nudist Resort President John Kinman and AANR/AANR-NW Treasurer Darrel Brown also attended the City Club meeting.
Pat's speech was broadcast on KLCC, a local FM radio station, the following morning, July 15. The Willamettans' previously scheduled open house was perfect timing. The Willamettans' membership chair, Bill Balfour, reported that five visitors attended as a direct result of hearing Pat's speech. In addition a University of Oregon journalism student who attended the City Club meeting specifically because of the topic visited the Willamettans to gather material for an article he plans to write for the University's online newsletter. KLCC also replayed the speech later in the week. The City Club Meetings are recorded on tape and kept on file at the Eugene City Library available to anyone wishing to check them out.
AANR's volunteer membership base creates opportunities like this one that further our working partnerships in our communities. AANR dues paying members and volunteers make it happen.

The schedule is now available in the GA section at www.aanr.com
SILENT AUCTION AT DE ANZA SPRINGS The event has become so big that the auction has been moved to Saturday from noon to 4:00 pm. Debra Sue Stevens and the Silent Auction Committee NEED to hear from more donors. Creativity = more fun = more $$$$$$$$ Erich Schuttauf has agreed that – with a high enough bid – he will perform the can-can (this is NOT a clothing optional bid item as the dance will be in traditional Can-Can attire). Any club owner, trustee and/or recently elected AANR official brave enough to join this fun-fund-raiser chorus line – and see if their club will bid higher that Erich will surely bring – PLEASE let me know as soon as possible.
ELECTIONS With primaries now in full swing the opportunities abound for your club CAT teams to wear NUDIST and I VOTE buttons at rallies – or – to quietly support candidates who will later support AANR projects. If you want a candidate checked out on positions favorable to our cultural needs – contact me. If your club CAT team wants to do a political panel and invite candidates to tell your members why they should get their votes – Call me.
NCSL The week after convention AANR will once again take our message to The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). The 2006 Annual Meeting & Exhibition will be held August 16-18 in Nashville, Tennessee, with a theme of "Strong State Strong Nation."
