Steve Hubbard in WA, Terri Lawrence in Id, Bill Bisbee and=20 Craig George in Mt, Mark Buchweitz a Friend of AANR representing=20 Sauvie Island and Rooster Rock State Park, and Sharon Parker our=20 Statenet Representative. The search for a volunteer to represent=20 Alaska continues! In addition to the State GAT Chairs "Friend of=20 AANR" Mark Buchweitz, AANR GAT volunteer Craig George from Montana,=20 AANR-NW Statenet representative Sharon Parker, AANR GAT Chair-Alonzo=20 Stevens, AANR-West GAT Chair-Debra Stevens, AANR-NW Presidential=20 candidate Mike Parker and Hidden Springs member Lance Fredricks=20 attended the 3rd AANR-NW GAT Training June 16-18 at Mountaindale Sun=20 Resort west of Portland.=20=20
=20
Alonzo, Debra, and Steve generously made travel arrangements to=20 attend the GAT training after spending a week in Washington DC=20 representing AANR members at the Great Outdoors Week event.
=20
Arriving at Mountaindale Sun Resort (formally Restful Haven) it was=20 immediately obvious that much more has changed at Mountaindale Sun=20 Resort (MSR) than the name change. The drive up the hill was a=20 pleasure as it was lined with welcome signs. The grounds were=20 absolutely beautiful as were the newly refurbished rental units,=20 which included new bedding. The sundeck was home to a new=20 commercial size barbecue and dinning furniture.=20=20
=20
On February 4 AANR-NW GAT received an email from MSR President Byrd=20 soliciting to host the AANR-NW GAT training. She provided weekends=20 we could choose from, and what they had to offer in way of hosting=20 the event. Thank you MSR members and volunteers for making the=20 weekend a memorable one and once again supporting the GAT.
=20
MSR also hosts the Rooster Rock/Sauvie Island beach cleanup the=20 first weekend in August. All beach volunteers get free ground fees=20 for the two days if they do volunteer work at the beach. A=20 wonderful low cost dinner is provided. Volunteers love having the=20 opportunity to socialize, soak in the hot tub and camp after a hard=20 day of beach work. MSR has held several fundraisers to support AANR- NW GAT, which provide funds for additional activities.
=20
AANR GAT Chair Alonzo presented a workshop on Community Awareness=20 Teams and their value in our communities. His presentation raised=20 our awareness concerning the value of having local contacts in our=20 communities to be the eyes and ears for GA committees. GAT=20 volunteers work with AANR a non-profit that values and appreciates=20 volunteers, members, resorts, clubs and public lands. We have a=20 membership that works towards advocating nudism on public lands and=20 partnering with resorts and clubs to raise awareness, preserve our=20 nudist rights and set GAT members up for success. Thanks to the=20 AANR staff and AANR Board our work is made easier. AANR dues paying=20 members provide the necessary resources we need to do our work.
=20
Hundreds of volunteers contribute to the AANR-NW GAT success. A Midsummer's Night Scream

By admin at 3:07 pm on June 24, 2006 | No comments

Mountaindale Sun Resort July 15, 2006 6 pm Dinner 8 pm Murder Party
A Midsummer's Night Scream
Coming up July 15 is another "Dinner and a Show" by Brian and=20 Rylla. We are going to have another delicious meal made by B and R=20 followed by a Murder Show. Dinners made by these two include=20 entree, salad, bread, soft drink, fresh fruit, and dessert. We had=20 such a good time a few months ago with our first Murder Mystery that=20 we are going to give another go at comedy, intrigue, duplicity,=20 misdirection or straight out deception. There will be plenty of=20 clues for you to try to figure out who is merely sneaky, and who is=20 the actual guilty party.=20
The dinner will start at 6:00 and the Murder party starts at 8:00.=20=20 We will need volunteers to play the suspects and participants in the=20 show, no experience necessary. It's easy and fun, and you can=20 participate either by being in the "Show" or by watching. Much=20 comment and laughter is the norm, and perhaps the best part, we will=20 be having dessert during the half way point or the intermission.=20=20 There will be small prizes for "best actor", "most guilty person=20 that wasn't the killer", etc.=20=20
=20 The Show takes about two hours, with time for conversation and=20 visiting. Cost for the "Dinner and a Show" is only $7.00, cheaper=20 than a movie without popcorn. If you have dinner plans, and just=20 want to come to the show, we would take a donation of $3.00 at the=20 door.
=20
See you there Sherlock!
=20
Brian and Rylla
Note: Mountaindale Sun Resort was formerly known as Restfulhaven=20 Health Club.=20
See http://www.mountaindalesunresort.com for more details or the=20 AANR-NW club page at http://www.aanr-nw.org/clubs.html .

AANR Weekly Report for June 23, 2006

By admin at 8:40 am on | No comments

AANR Weekly Report for June 23, 2006
Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
AANR Mourns Passing of a Good Friend This week we were saddened to hear about the passing of longtime member, friend, and club owner Gloria Massey of Nevada Sun Rancho, formerly the Las Vegas Sun Club. Those wishing to send a letter to Gloria's family 05 write to: The Family of Gloria Massey, c/o Nevada Sun Rancho, POB 19205, Jean, NV 89019.
AANR Voting Period Closes Results to be Posted 12:00 p.m. July 5 At midnight on Tuesday June 20, the period for voting in AANR's one-member-one-vote election closed. Mailed ballots postmarked by June 20 will still be accepted by VR Elections systems until next Tuesday. VR will then take a few days processing and tabulating.
To date, 2,787 ballots have been cast. A very limited number of these have been invalidated by VR Elections either because they were unmarked (survey answered only) or a person had mistakenly voted on the internet and mailed in a ballot believing they had to submit both.
No one within the AANR office knows the direction that the election is taking. However, election results will be posted online to the AANR.com Web site in the "Ballot Box" area at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday July 5, 2006. We wish all candidates the very best.
Welcome to New Regional Presidents While the results of the AANR-wide officer and trustee election are not yet complete, there have been two elections of regional presidents. In FANR, we welcome President Tina Barnott and her newly elected board. We extend similar congratulations and welcomes to President Lucy Hyde of the AANR SW and her board.
Committee Faire is Coming Ye Olde Committee Faire . Make that the latest and greatest in committee faires.. will be held once again during the AANR Convention at De Anza Springs. AANR Committee Chairs are asked to prepare a table display, handouts, and other information of interest to members to help educate them about what our various teams do. Please plan to set up the items on your tables and staff them from 2:00 to 4:30 on Thursday of convention week.
AANR Helping Members This week AANR provided assistance to AANR Members and their families in several ways. In Florida, we provided information to a club about basic landlord/tenant and liability questions. We also assisted a Florida grandmother in an ongoing legal case with at least one issue –her ability to let grandchildren accompany her on visits to her favorite club.
We answered questions about enjoying nudity in the backyard for a member in California. We're also lending assistance to a member on the East Coast who faces adverse employment action for discussing nude recreation in their workplace.
CNN Pasco Story Has Internet Traffic on AANR.com Up Many of you have called or written us to let us know you have seen a version of the Associated Press article about the growth and competition between the larger nudist clubs of Pasco County, Florida. The latest appears on CNN.com at http://www.cnn.com/2006/TRAVEL/06/22/nude.resorts.ap/ but related pieces ran in USA Today, MSNBC, The Vancouver Sun, The Seattle Post Intelligencer, The Chicago Sun Times, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, and more. While we do not agree with everything voiced in the piece, we trust that the increased awareness generated by it will be a rising tide that lifts these clubs.
In fact, and perhaps buoyed by references to the American Association for [sic] Nude Recreation in the story, we've noted that traffic to the http://www.aanr.com Web site has been particularly strong this week. For example, nearly 17,000 pages of information were downloaded from our site on yesterday alone.
Nanette Wickersham, Club/Member Liaison Directory changes for addresses and phone numbers from this week are listed below.
06/19/06 Dakota Prairie Sun Club: Address P O Box 684 Worthington, MN 56187
06/20/06 Juniper Woods: Phone & Email 518/945.1399 (voice/fax) p.kercher@worldnet.att.net
Lupin: Phone, E-mail, & URL 408/353-9200 (voice) relax@lunpinlodge.com www.lupinlodge.org/aanr
06/21/06 Avalon: URL Add: www.avalon-resort.com
Okanagan Shuswap Nudist Society: Address P O Box 20182 Kelowna, BC V1Y 9H2 Canada
If you wish to receive C.O. changes from this week, or would like an updated Directory (electronic or hard copy), please contact me at clubinfo@aanr.com or 800/879-6833.

Linda Berry, Director of Publications
Time Capsule Celebrates 75 Years One highlight of the AANR 75th Convention will be the burying of a time capsule, with 75 years of memorabilia. AANR Weekly Report for June 16, 2006
Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
Just Four More Days. Remain in the AANR Election! You must finish online voting (or have mailed ballots postmarked) no later than Tuesday, June 20th. For more information call or e-mail VR's help desk at 1-800-218-4026 Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Central Time, e-mail- custserv@vres.us
FANR Convention Begins This weekend marks the beginning of Regional Convention season as the Florida Association for Nude Recreation begins theirs at Cypress Cove Nudist Resort & Spa, Kissimmee, FL. This week our hometown has welcomed AANR East Trustee Bill Williamson and his wife/AANR East Secretary Mary, plus George Morrison of AANR Midwest, AANR President Pat Brown, AANR East President (and Public Relations Chair) Susan Weaver, and the FANR Officers and Board. We wish them a great celebration.
Gen X Outreach. The AANR Marketing Ambassador program for the college/Generation X age set dovetails with the meeting. Tomorrow, and weather permitting, five ambassadors who have been taking training all week, will travel to an island off Tampa used by nude boaters. They will distribute cold water, sunscreen packets, and basic information about the Association as they "reach the beach."
Cape Cod Cleanup Brings Out 51 Volunteers Despite Wind and Rain. Speaking of beaches, the 10th Annual Cape Cod Cleanup with volunteers from the Sunchasers, Sandy Terraces, Pilgrim Naturists, Solair, AANR East, NAC (which also contributed several hundred dollars to the effort), and from many other locations throughout New England, went on despite colder temperatures and rain at Race Point Beach in Provincetown, MA. AANR East Government Affairs Chair Jim Corsentino, Take Pride in America Coordinator Kathy Pearson, and I distributed drinks and sandwiches to 51 volunteers who turned out despite the weather.
I would like to thank these many people, clubs, and organizations for their support. As a Take Pride in America event, their volunteer hours were tracked and submitted to Washington, DC, to help showcase the way nudists give back to their communities.
We took a group picture of these volunteers dressed in bright yellow AANR "Caution Clothes 05 Come Off Without Warning" T-shirts specially imprinted on the back with cleanup details. We later made 5×7 prints of that picture and distributed these on special "Greetings from the Annual Cape Cod Cleanup" messages on letterhead stationery. We later distributed one with basic information about the Association, a copy of the anti-nudity regulation governing the Cape since the early 1970s that we're trying to change, and a Caution T-shirt to each and every office of Massachusetts members of the U.S. Congress and Senate. We personally asked staffers in those offices who handle Dept. of the Interior issues to review the regulation and help us in making a change that's more than 30 years overdue.
Great Outdoors Week a Huge Success The congressional visits described above were part of an overall strategy to meet as many lawmakers, staff, and decision makers as possible in the "alphabet soup" of agencies in Washington that affect recreation during the American Recreation Coalition's Great Outdoors Week.
A full recap with photos will appear in a future issue of The Bulletin. However, those attending with me included:
AANR Government Affairs Chair Alonzo Stevens and his wife Debra, FANR Government Affairs Chair Hugh Williams and his wife Linda, AANR East Government Affairs Chair Jim Corsentino and Kathy Pearson (who, as we've noted, also helps with Take Pride in America), AANR Midwest's Luana Rohrer, AANR Northwest's Steve Hubbard, AANR West's Beverly Price, AANR DC Government Affairs Representative John Hunter, and AANR/AANR E's Maryland Lobbyist Don Murphy.
In all, early calculations show between 60 and 75 personal visits were made with Congressmen, Senators, and/or staff. Other highlights include Steve Hubbard meeting the new Secretary of the Interior (Steve gave him an AANR 75th anniversary lapel pin and explained our sponsorship of Great Outdoors Week), plus several members of our delegation touching base with Fran Manilla head of the National Park Service. (Members of the team also had an opportunity to discuss with officials the emerging developments to curb nudity on the American River in California .)
Nanette Wickersham, Club/Member Liaison There are no address or phone number changes for the Directory this week.
If you wish to receive C.O. changes from this week, or would like an updated Directory (electronic or hard copy), please contact me at clubinfo@aanr.com or 800/879-6833.
Linda Berry, Director of Publications
The Bulletin Hopefully everyone has received the June magazine by now. The response has been tremendous!
The July issue of The Bulletin just arrived in our office late this afternoon. It will go in the mail to you on Monday. Work on the August issue is well underway.
Carolyn Hawkins, Public Relations Coordinator Carolyn is out of the office today doing media training at Cypress Cove. She'll give you a full report next week.
Patricia Orner – Government Affairs Coordinator State Legislation and News From State Net Congress has not raised the federal minimum wage since the days of the Clinton administration. But following a suggestion from the former President himself, a number of states have recently taken the matter into their own hands. This could have a direct financial effect on your club operations. To read the entire story – go to the Government Affairs area of the AANR web site Monday.
The LOUISIANA Senate approved HB 1381, which will ban the sale of violent video games to anyone under 18. It fires off to Gov. Kathleen Blanco (D) (TIMES-PICAYUNE [NEW ORLEANS]). 05/11/2006
HOUSE BILL NO. 1381 was a Substitute for House Bill No. 421 by Representative Burrell. No language in the passed bill addresses nudity, however AANR tracks all bills that are "relative to offenses affecting the health and morals of minors".
ARIZONA Gov. Janet Napolitano (D) vetoes HB 2675, which would have forced local governments looking to invoke eminent domain to declare blight on a property-by-property basis rather than condemning an entire area based on a few properties. Napolitano said the measure "goes too far" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC [PHOENIX]). Beverly Price, of AANR-West, and a registered Arizona lobbyist, has been carefully watching this and all Arizona bills.
The DELAWARE HOUSE approved legislation that outlaws playing a pornographic movie in a vehicle if people in other vehicles can see it. It goes next to the Senate (DELAWARE STATE NEWS [DOVER]).
This legislative body also adopted DE HR 58 " TO REQUEST THE DELAWARE FEDERAL LEGISLATORS TO SUPPORT THE "CYBER SAFETY FOR KIDS ACT OF 2006" which AANR staff is closely watching to be sure that it would not apply to AANR web sites.
GREAT OUTDOORS WEEK The Government Affairs Team arrived this past Sunday in Washington, D.C. AANR staff assisted in last minute preparations and sending additional tools to the team as required. The team was able to hold meetings with many congressional offices. Look for reports in a future edition of The Bulletin.
AANR's donation to the ARC Silent Auction got a lot of attention. We will know soon if AANR raised the most for our partners American Recreation Coalition (ARC).
At the end of the event members of the team from California became aware of a potential issue with preparations of a General Management plan for the Auburn State Recreational Area. AANR was able to provide AANR West Region Chair, Debra Sue Stevens, with details to allow her to take charge of the situation while she was in D.C. and had resources like John Hunter nearby.
AANR CONVENTION SILENT AUCTION Has your club sent back yet the bright pink form in the last club mailing? PLEASE let me know if you received the letter from Pat Brown, Alonzo Stevens and Debra Sue Stevens that went in the club mailing along with this pink form. E-mail me at government@aanr.com
GAT TRAINING The schedule will be on the AANR web site in the Government Affairs download zone Monday. Early registration is necessary to ensure your seats in any or all of the 7 sessions on Monday and Tuesday, August 7-8, 2006.
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS CHALLENGE The Fire & Ice Challenge is in full swing, with a deadline of October 13 and a drawing date of October 23, 2006. Each five-dollar donation gets you one chance to win an ocean view cabin for two aboard Bare Necessities Tour and Travel cruise on Holland America's Amsterdam. This is a package worth $4,500. The ship will depart Seattle on July 20, 2007 and return to Seattle on July 27.

As part of its trip, the AANR team makes visits to congressional offices. In each of these settings, we introduce ourselves as a resource on the subject of nude recreation and advocate for it. I want to thank our members and clubs for the dues money that makes this possible. A regular presence at ARC establishes crucial credibility.
I will not return to the AANR office until Thursday of next week. Should you need to reach me, please contact the AANR office at 1-800-TRY-NUDE and leave a message. I will do my best to check for messages regularly. AANR Weekly Report for June 2, 2006

By admin at 9:56 am on June 3, 2006 | No comments
AANR Weekly Report for June 2, 2006

Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
75th Anniversary Magazine
Please read Linda Berry's report for an update on the magazine.
A Warm Welcome to Under the Sun – AANR's latest participating business.
This week we were delighted to receive a participating business agreement from Under the Sun Boutique. Based at Caliente, Under the Sun is known to many AANR and Region convention-goers for their traveling displays selling wraps, pareos, jewelry and other accessories. We're delighted to have them with us!
While we're on the subject of participating businesses, I'd also like to thank another recent participant, the Newport Beachside of Miami, for its contribution of a stay that will be included in our silent auction package.
Website Traffic is UP!
May ended on a high note, driven in part by interest in nude recreation over the Memorial Day holiday, a recent Associated Press story about Pasco County, Florida's AANR resorts, and the Association's decision to post archives of The Cyber-Bulletin in publicly assessable areas of our website.
Visitors have clearly come seeking these articles, as evidenced by keywords entered into on various search engines as tracked by our website software. They are spending longer on site and downloading more pages. The average time spent on a site visit increased by nearly 30 seconds (which is considerable because times are averaged over tens of thousands of visits and do not frequently increase or decrease dramatically.) In all, over, 212,000 pages of information were downloaded from aanr.com in May.
When you next visit AANR.com, you'll find a number of subtle changes designed to further increase traffic, and to reflect AANR's brand position and new mission statement.
What does all this mean for the Association and its clubs? It means more people educated about nude recreation, who, by also spending more time onsite, are vested with a greater interest in taking the next step of purchasing AANR's North American Guide, and making a visit to a club near them.
Public Relations Visit
This week Mary Jane and Marie of the YPB&R team visited the AANR office where they joined Carolyn, PR Chair Susan Weaver (via phone linkup), and me in planning for the summer and beyond. Nude Recreation Week and AANR's Convention at DeAnza Springs are high priority items, plus creating more tools that clubs can use to promote and grow their business.
News You Can Use:
New Demographic on The American Camper are Available to Clubs at AANR.com
Among the tools developed by YPB&R for clubs is a collection of articles on topics from improving customer service, creating your brand, and more. This month they have prepared a demographic profile on the American Camper in conjunction with the firm's work for ARVC. To access this report, simply visit http://www.aanr.com/club_services.html then type in the username and password that we provide to clubs. To get your name and password, e-mail editor@aanr.com.
Kudos to Coventry Resort on Its Press
This week Coventry Club of North Carolina had a great story about the grounds and activities found there from their local media. You can read this online at http://www.wect.com/Global/story.asp?S=4971185&nav=2gQc
Associated Press Story on Pasco County
In other news, an Associated Press story about clubs in Florida hit many newspaper and online outlets last week. Although the piece played up competition among clubs for effect, it did bring considerable attention to the area as a nudist destination, with favorable quotes from county officials, plus stats from AANR. Find one version online at
http://www.bradenton.com/mld/bradenton/news/local/14690392.h tm
Silent Auction Items Needed
In your next club mailing, please watch for our memo about the Silent Auction to benefit AANR's Government Affairs program to be held at DeAnza Springs during convention. We need items of all types–from club stays to towels, T-shirts, good food & wine, even fun items that will help us reach our goals. The schedule of camps is as follows:
Nude U June 9-11 Cypress Cove Nudist Resort & Spa, Kissimmee, FL
Ambassadors Marketing Program June 11-18 Cypress Cove Nudist Resort & Spa
FANR Youth Camp and Leadership Academy June 18-24 Cypress Cove Nudist Resort & Spa
AANR SW Youth Camp and Leadership Academy June 25-July 1 Oaklake Trails, Depew, Oklahoma
AANR West Youth Camp and Leadership Academy July 9-15 Olive Dell Ranch, Colton, California
AANR East Youth Camp and Leadership Academy July 23-29 Cedar Creek, Pelion, South Carolina
Clubs Can Help Support Youth Camps
JAANR's Chair is once again asking clubs to donate promotional items like T-shirts, flying discs, mugs, and other giveaways that can be used as prizes and "goody bag" stuffers to attendees of various camps.
Please mail your items to: Judy Grisham AANR Youth Chair 548 Prather Dr. Ft.
