AANR Weekly Report for/05/26, 2006

By admin at 11:59 am on May 26, 2006 | No comments
AANR Weekly Report for/05/26, 2006
Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
Wishing you the very best this Memorial Day weekend
Memorial Day typically marks the beginning of the summer season for many of our members and clubs. This weekend, when those who had to be wrapped up in clothes over the winter visit their home club for first time this year we wish you a happy, safe, and prosperous holiday. Our offices will be closed on Monday/05/29 in observance of this occasion.
We also pause to reverently reflect on the men and women of the armed services (in both the U.S. and Canada) who have sacrificed so much to make the freedom we enjoy possible. To all of them, we say thank you.
While we're on that subject, please remember that AANR will gladly extend the membership of any service person called upon to duty overseas free of charge for the duration of their assignment. For more information about this added way of saying thanks for all they do, please contact our membership services department at:
Updated AANR Election Results.over 2100 Ballots Cast
The first AANR election of officers and trustees and customer survey on a one-member-one-vote basis continues until June 20th. I received an update this morning from VR Elections systems that, to date, 2105 ballots have been cast.
Please do all that you can to encourage your members to make their voice heard. Should anyone require assistance with replacing a lost ballot, voting online, or gaining access to vote as a member on "no mail" status, you 05 call or email VR's help desk at 1-800-218-4026 Monday – Friday 8am – 5:30pm Central Time, email- custserv@vres.us or contact the AANR office.
Dangerous Fugitive Alert
Earlier this week AANR distributed copies of a Federation of Canadian Naturist's alert to clubs in WCANR and AANR Northwest concerning Richard Lee McNair. According to law enforcement officials, McNair recently escaped from a Louisiana prison and is now believed to be in Western Canada. Though NOT an AANR member, a laptop computer that he left behind indicated that he 05 be intending to visit a nudist resort in Canada.
The text of the message is reproduced below. Photographs are available at:
http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/news/n_0603_e.htm
_________________________________________
DANGEROUS FUGITIVE ALERT > >/05/23, 2006
> Richard Lee McNAIR escaped from the U.S. Penitentiary in Pollock, > Louisiana. He is wanted by the US Marshals. He was serving three > life sentences for murder and burglary. (see above link for a more detailed description) > > McNAIR is believed to be in Canada. He was last seen on April 28, > 2006 in Penticton, British Columbia. > > He 05 be interested in naturist/nudist clubs. Investigators > searched a laptop McNAIR left in a stolen vehicle and found that he > had visited the FCN website. (www.FCN.ca) The U.S. Marshals through > their contacts at the Toronto Police have asked the FCN to warn all > naturists/nudists to be on the lookout. > > If you see McNair, you should immediately contact your local > police. Do not approach this individual as he is believed to be > dangerous and 05 be armed.
————————————————————
Changes in AANR.com Website.Cyber Bulletin Archives open to public traffic
Those of you who have visited http://aanr.com <http://aanr.com/> this week 05 have noticed a new category of pages titled "nudist articles" on our main page in the upper right hand corner. Clicking that link takes a visitor to over 90 past editions of the AANR Cyber Bulletin.
This material has long been available to members in our members' only services area. After consultations with our webmaster, we reached the decision that opening past issues to the general public has several advantages:
- With so many articles on so many topics, making them available is consistent with our aim to be the credible voice for information about nude recreation.
- These articles greatly increase AANR's probability of picking up additional search engine traffic from internet surfers looking for specific information. For example, as search engines catalog our archive pages, a person typing in Senator Patrick Leahy's name might come across our article from some years ago about his letter on skinny dipping to Dear Abby. Of course, this helps increase traffic to the site.
- Those clubs who advertise in the Cyber Bulletin will benefit from having their ads seen by many more visitors.for years after the issue in which they appear. Advertisements work longer and harder for you!
Nanette Wickersham
Club/Member Liaison
Directory changes for addresses and phone numbers from this week are listed below.
05-22-06 Canyon State Naturists: Address Change P O Box 54756 Phoenix, AZ 85078
05-24-06 Buff-A-Teers: Email Change Remove: buffateers@aol.com Correction: buffateers@@yahoo.com should be buffateers@yahoo.com
If you wish to receive C.O. changes from this week, or would like an updated Directory (electronic or hard copy), please contact Nanette at clubinfo@aanr.com or 800/879-6833.
Carolyn Hawkins, Public Relations Coordinator
There was an article in the June issue of Florida Trend Magazine titled "Buck Naked" regarding nude recreation in Pasco County.
Last weekend we were invited to participate in a trade show at Haulover Beach. That was when Republican Assembly candidate Bill Conrad low-balled primary opponent Tom Berryhill by reminding voters that Berryhill had a heart transplant six years ago. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Conrad's mailer declared — in blood red ink — that "Tom Berryhill doesn't have the HEART for State Assembly," explaining that transplant patients usually survive only seven years beyond surgery. It also called attention to stress associated with elective office, and that stress significantly shortens the life of transplantees. And just to make sure Central Valley voters got the message, Conrad suggested that Berryhill might cost taxpayers money if he didn't survive the two-year term because they would have to pay for a special election. Although both candidates are Republicans, the subsequent outrage — directed at Conrad — was bipartisan.

AANR Weekly Report for 05 19, 2006

By admin at 4:02 pm on May 19, 2006 | No comments
AANR Weekly Report for 05 19, 2006
Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
Participating Business Update
We're delighted to report that a new participating business has joined the fold. The Newport Beachside Resort hotel, though clothed, is just minutes from Miami's Haulover clothing-optional beach. Per an agreement reached between the hotel and the association, AANR members who mention AANR as a code when booking online or over the phone will receive a 10% discount off regular room rates. A portion of the bookings will also be paid to the Association. You can view the Newport Beachside website at: http://www.newportbeachsideresort.com <http://www.newportbeachsideresort.com/>
This week AANR Club liaison Nan Wickersham and I held a telephone call with Under the Sun boutique about affiliating as a participating business also. Many of you who have left Under the Sun's traveling displays at AANR and region conventions a bit "lighter in the wallet" know about the popularity and fine quality of their merchandise. We look forward to the prospect of working with them.
Marketing Consultant's Call – Progress
On Tuesday evening AANR conducted a status call with members of our marketing consultant team. During the call, we confirmed that consultants have business cards and other materials. Most consultants have been paired with at least one club to date. A number have completed onsite visits and prepared analysis and recommendations for their clubs. We have started the tracking of new membership results among the clubs in the program.
AANR Helping Clubs and Members
This week George Morrison of AANR Midwest joined Larry Schultz and others of the Caribbean Breeze club in Missouri in attending a hearing on a conditional use permit. Armed with Government Affairs kits explaining the dollar value of nude tourism, plus facts and figures, George and Larry had made rounds with land use officials ahead of time. Collectively, their efforts paid off with some good news when the board voted 6-4 in favor of the conditional use permit. Regrettably, the permit came with several problematic "strings" attached. We're working with the club on the next round of strategy in response. You can read a report of the meeting and access some live footage at the following link: http://www.ksdk.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=96964
This week AANR provided information to a member in Texas seeking information on our legal direct assistance program in conjunction with a divorce and child custody dispute that involves his family's attendance at a club in that state.
AANR provided information to a member in Illinois with a question on guidelines for nude photography.
In California, the office provided basic answers to questions about state indecent exposure law, offering to provide additional information to the attorney of a person charged with a violation of the law. We're also working with a California AANR club facing challenges with obtaining a company to process credit card transactions. Many such companies consider any business dealing in nudity of any kind to be a sexually oriented business.
Plans Underway for Great Outdoors Week
Your AANR Government Affairs Team has been at work making preparations for AANR and Region attendance at the American Recreation Association's Great Outdoors Week celebration in June The event, which is held in Washington, D.C., brings together members of the private recreation sector as well as key staff from numerous land use agencies. These include the Bureau of Land Management, the National Park Service, the Forest Service, and more.
The event gives AANR and region representatives the opportunity to network with land use agencies' staff, plus make visits to Capitol Hill.
Carolyn Hawkins
Carolyn is out of the office today attending a festival at Haulover beach in Miami. The beach is a popular clothing-optional venue and the festival draws thousands of visitors each year. She will provide an update on her visit during next week's report.
AANR Convention to be Exciting
Final preparations are underway for this year's historic convention that will commemorate AANR's 75th anniversary. The "Ultimate Idol" will headline the week's entertainment. His opening act will be the winner of a nationwide talent search put on by DeAnza Springs, Paradise Lakes, Paradise Valley, Laguna del Sol, and Mira Vista. Don't miss the fun!
Yorktown Club of Maine Officially Closed to Nudists
We are saddened to report that the Yorktown club of Albion, Maine is being de-listed from the AANR website and directories. We had held out the prospect that the club would reopen for nudist business this spring after business reasons led the club to reevaluate its future last fall. After conversations with the ownership, we're able to confirm that the switch to clothed clientele is now permanent.
Food for Thought
Need another barometer of the burgeoning world market for nude recreation? Consider news reports issued last week about British Naturist travel agent PENG travel selling for nearly two million pounds. You can read one such report from the BBC here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4750551.stm
In other news, yet another poll mentions interest in visiting nude beaches among worldwide travelers. This one appeared in Yahoo Finance: http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/060516/netu004.html?.v=58
Linda Berry, Director of Publications
Members' Voices
Two questions asked in the Members' Voices column of The Bulletin were:
1. What would you say to describe to a stranger why they should consider a vacation at a nudist club or resort?
2. What can AANR do to encourage younger people to join?
Unfortunately, we've had no response at all. Please help us by taking just a few minutes of your time and send your responses via e-mail to editor@aanr.com; by fax to 407/933-7577; or by mail to 1703 North Main Street, Kissimmee, FL 34744. Responses will appear in a future issue of The Bulletin.
June Magazine
The June magazine went to the printer on Monday, 05 15.It will start mailing on 05 30 and should start arriving in the mail around June 7. It will definitely be worth the wait. It's a whopping 80 pages-our biggest magazine yet!
Patricia Orner – Government Affairs Coordinator
Region Support
AANR West: Debra Sue Stevens and the Silent Auction Committee NEED to hear from the clubs and from Trustees willing to auction (1) a photo of themselves in a Shirley Gauthier tutu (2) a certificate for their service as a waiter to serve a meal at a regional meeting (3) other creative things that will help us raise funds.
AANR East: AANR, staff and lobbyist Don Murphy continued watching developments about the seat opened by the sudden loss of MD 38-B delegate, Bennett Bozman. 24 personalized packages were sent to supporters in 38-B. AANR is following up with those members and nudists living in this voting district who are willing to help convince new officials that a designated area for nude recreation on Assateague Beach is a mutually beneficial project. If you have friends or relatives in this area – PLEASE ask them to call me and help us – it is as easy as putting up a yard sign. If we do not support the candidates why should we expect them to support nude recreation.
June 4th MD Senator Janet Greenip will be holding a rally. Senator Greenip represents MD District 33 and spoke in favor of the AANR amendment to SB 224. She received the AANR 2005 Paradise Lakes Government Affairs Award for the positive comments she made from the Senate floor. PLEASE encourage your members to visit her web site and if they are willing to help in her campaign they can register at http://www.janetgreenip.com/volunteer.php and please have them let her know in the comments that either they heard about her through your club, the AANR office or just say Patricia Orner told me to look you up.
I would appreciate their feedback on these political plans. Don Murphy will be meeting with Erich and me June 24th to finalize a new strategy for Assateague Beach and Cape Cod.
All is ready for the 10th annual Cape Cod clean up Saturday, June 10, 2006. Jim Corsentino and Erich Schuttauf are calling for more volunteers to wear AANR special event CAUTION shirts and help us show how much our culture cares about and cares for the beach and that we deserve an area for nude recreation.
AANR SW: in OK AANR is still watching HB3004 which has passed from the House (substituted) to the Senate (amended) and is now back to the House for concurrence. The definitions of "nudity" follow standards and the scope of danger to children has been expanded to include "Inappropriate violence".
AANR NW Shirley Gauthier, regional GAT chair, was disappointed that language changes she proposed for a local ordinance were not accepted.
AANR Midwest: AANR continued again this week assisting in meetings with planning and zoning for approval for the developer of a new resort in MO. The approval came with several questionable requirements and rather hostile TV remarks from one local dissenter. AANR and AANR Midwest stand ready to support the rights of private citizens to peaceful nude recreation without discriminatory regulation.
FANR: Two FL Senate appointments are still open for applications: Florida Education Fund Board of Directors & Florida Health Insurance Plan Board of Directors. If your club has a member interested in either appointment – please have them contact me as soon as possible.
Politics & Leadership
Plans are moving along well for the June trip to Washington, DC where the GAT delegates will be attending nine meeting/presentations as part of Great Outdoors Week and will be carrying the AANR message to the halls of congress. AANR will also be sponsors in the silent auction with a beautiful, bountiful basket of goodies. This will feature a selection of Barefoot on the Beach wines which the winery (http://www.barefootwine.com/beach_wine/beach_wine.html) tells me are being discontinued and a set of AANR 75th Anniversary glasses. A pair of AANR beach towels, AANR 75th anniversary pins, a copy of The North American Guide with CD and a $50 shopping gift certificate to http://www.igourmet.com/shoppe/specials.asp?ScrollAction=2 I will post a photo as soon as Carol puts it all together.

3D photography exhibit in Portland

By admin at 7:06 pm on | No comments

The 3D Center of Art and Photography in Portland is exhibiting a collection of 3D photographs.
A collection of bright, clear, interesting pictures, many with nudity, many of them taken at the Burning Man festival, are on display at the 3D Center of Art and Photography, 1928 NW Lovejoy Street, Portland, Oregon 97209, (503) 227-6667, until/05/21. These are not ordinary photographs! They are in 3D, but they are not ordinary 3D! They are StereoJet (a format rarely seen) pictures mounted on the wall, lit from behind with individual light boxes, and viewed with Polaroid glasses. They are made by Jim Gasperini, www.cockeyedcreations.com <http://www.cockeyedcreations.com/> .
The Center is a very interesting place, and the only place like it in the US. Since it is only open Thursday through Sunday, that leaves about four days to see these pictures! Admission to the non-profit Center is only $4, and while you are there, you can see a 3D slide essay about classic cars of Cuba. Learn more about the Center at <a href=http://3dCenter.us

AANR Weekly Report for 05 12, 2006

By admin at 12:18 pm on May 12, 2006 | No comments
AANR Weekly Report for 05 12, 2006
Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
Election Report
As of Wednesday, 05 10, a Vice President with VR Election systems confirmed that the company had received over 1,500 ballots from AANR members. Many members have also completed the optional customer survey questions about AANR which were included. As you would expect there was no indication about which candidates are doing more strongly. and we DIDN'T ask! We're also refraining from asking about survey results until the close of the election. We did learn, however, that there have not been many calls–though there have been some–to customer service.
Please encourage your members to vote.either by sending in the paper ballots which accompanied their 05 issue of The Bulletin, or by voting online as instructed on the ballots. Members on "no mail" status can also request a ballot by calling VR Elections toll-free to 800-218-4026 Monday through Friday 8:30-5:00 Central Time; or sending an e-mail to custserv@vres.us
News We Can Use: Yankelovich Poll Results Are Out!
As you 05 know, AANR's public relations firm YPB&R handles many accounts in the travel field. Each year YPB&R teams up with the Yankelovich polling company–one of the most respected opinion research companies in the country–to compile and release the results of a survey of the leisure traveling public. Dubbed the National Travel Monitor, it has been ongoing for many years. It is a credible gauge of attitudes on everything from how many customers still use travel agents versus the Internet, to how many days they plan for this year's vacations and how much they plan to spend.
Several years ago, the Travel Monitor began including a question or two about the opinion of leisure travelers on nude travel. To keep things independent, AANR plays no role in the collection of any data. we don't even write the questions. But we learn much from the totally independent, objective answers we get from this poll of travelers. This year's results are out. It has also spurred media interest, including reports in USA Today about what we do.
Specifically, the survey revealed:
. 15% of adults consider a resort that offers a nude recreation experience extremely desirable;
. Significant differences stand out with Echo-Boomers and Xers interest in nude recreation overtaking that of the Boomers and Matures. The percentage of adults who consider a nude recreation experience extremely/very desirable include:
* 23% of Echo-Boomers (born since 1979) * 18% of Xers (born from 1965 through 1978) * 15% of Boomers (born from 1946 through 1964) * 12% of Matures (born before 1946)
. Non-whites (28%) and African Americans (30%) find nude recreation experiences more desirable than their white counterparts (13%). The survey also named the top five states US adults say they would like to visit most during the next two years:
* California (34%) * Florida (32%) * Hawaii (20%) * Arizona (15%), and * Colorado (15%),
For a copy of this information in press release form, please visit AANR's Newsroom at http://www.aanr.com/press_room_news_releases.html
Status Conference with AANR Marketing Consultants Planned
Almost all of the clubs who have submitted pre-visit questionnaires have been assigned a consultant. We are sending out another packet to a participating club today. A second conference call with the consultants will be held next Tuesday evening. (Please read Carolyn's report for more information.)
Register Your Cleanup Projects With Take Pride in America
Thanks to the hard work of AANR volunteers, the Association is registered with the Take Pride in America Program. Set up by federal land agencies to record service projects that beautify public lands, it's an opportunity for AANR and its clubs and regions to show how much nudists give back to their communities with such projects. To date, cleanup projects in South Carolina (Cedar Creek club); Assateague Island, Maryland; and Cape Cod, Massachusetts, have been registered.
For more information about whether a service project you're planning would meet program guidelines and info about registering, e-mail kathy_w_pearson@yahoo.com
Food for Thought
A sampling of what our news searches yielded concerning nudity and nude recreation this week
Summer's coming and, with it, the inevitable shedding of clothes! We know it, but apparently it's a timely topic as well. We thought you 05 enjoy reading several different perspectives on nudity within the family, including families who allow their children to enjoy the backyard au naturel.
Each was offered from a different source for parenting advice and appeared in various print and online columns this week. There are some very positive things, as well as an opinion or two that we'd take issue with:
From Steve and Lynelle, advice "gurus" for the Anderson, Indiana Herald Bulletin we find: http://www.theheraldbulletin.com/peopleandplaces/local_story _128140355.html?keyword=secondarystory
From Dr. Joyce Brothers, as syndicated in such media as the Seattle Post Intelligencer, we read: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/brothers/266170_joyce04.html
Finally, one can consult the opinion of "Today's Family Man" at http://sheknows.com/about/look/7053.htm
Linda Berry, Director of Publications
Late Arrival for the June Magazine
The June magazine goes to the printer on Monday, 05 15. Because there is a two-week turnaround time for printing and binding a magazine, it will not start mailing until 05 30. Please let your members know that Bulletins should start arriving in the mail around June 7. It will definitely be worth the wait. It's a whopping 80 pages-our biggest magazine yet!
Congratulations to Lynn Von Hagel
Lynn Von Hagel graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Central Florida (UCF) last week. Her major was English-Creative Writing. Lynn is responsible for the club happenings in The Bulletin as well as the Cyber-Bulletin. She also writes and edits stories for The Bulletin, the AANR Web site, brochures, etc. We're proud of her accomplishments, and she's a real asset to the publications team!
Carolyn Hawkins, Public Relations Coordinator
Positive Publicity
The Associated Press article regarding Pasco County's nude recreation is still scheduled to hit in a couple of weeks.
We had an interview with Pantagraph news out of IL. This will print the first part of June and is scheduled to be part of a front page story in the travel section.
Pre-Visit Questionnaires
The questionnaires regarding the consultant training continue to come in.
Update on Marketing Consultant Training Program
This is a further update on the Marketing Consultant Training Program. These clubs mentioned have been sent a binder along with a custom Claritas profile for their club. They have also been sent a letter stating that their consultant will be contacting them to discuss the request and to set an appropriate time for a meeting. Most of the clubs have been assigned a consultant, and I am waiting for a call from Solair before I can assign that one.

Club Requested Date Packet Sent Assignment Consultant
Sunny Rest Resort 3/30/06 Assigned Brian Hill Avalon Resort 3/30/06 Assigned Mark Maurer Restful Haven 3/30/06 Assigned Roxie Box Lake Bronson 3/30/06 Assigned Sharon McLeod White Tail Park 3/30/06 Assigned Linda Garcia The Willamettans 3/30/06 Assigned Dave Landman Abbott's Glen Inn 4/28/06 Assigned Mike Gesner Coventry Club NC 4/7/06 Assigned Mark Maurer Rochester Naturist 5/4//06 Assigned Mike Gesner Solair Rec League 4/7/06 Pending Juniper Woods 4/7/2006 Assigned Brian Hill Potomac Rambling Bares 5/4/06 Assigned Cheri Alexander Serendipity 4/28/06 Assigned Richard Cook Coventry Club VT 4/7/06 Assigned Barry Murphy Pamlico Pines 5/4/06 Assigned Mark Maurer Pine Tree Assoc 5/4/06 Assigned Brian Hill Sun Meadow of Idaho 4/28/06 Assigned Suzanne Schell Paradise Lakes Assigned Richard Cook Wildwood Naturist's 5/11/06 Assigned Roxie Box
Nude Recreation Week
Nude Recreation Week will be celebrated July 10 – 16, 2006.
