AANR Weekly Report for March 31, 2006
Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
Excitement Growing for AANR's First One-Member-One-Vote Election
A number of our clubs have contacted AANR letting us know that=20 they've visited the candidate profiles on all those running for=20 office and trustee positions. The profiles are available by clicking=20 on "ballot box" in our member benefits area.=20=20
=20
Some of you have also asked whether the candidate information will=20 be available in other formats=85 and the answer is YES. With each=20 edition of the 05 Bulletin, voting members will get ballots as well=20 as a printed voter guide containing very similar information to the=20 online profiles.=20=20=20=20
=20
At the suggestion of a number of folks, we're considering a separate=20 comment area where folks can post uplifting information on behalf of=20 candidates of their choice. We'll keep you updated when we create=20 the area if we can be sure to get "the bugs" out of doing so.
=20
The one-member-one-vote structure of AANR, combined with a system to=20 assure that its board represents both members and clubs of all=20 strata is probably the best example that AANR is your association.=20 It's my association. It's our association of members and clubs.=20=20 With each step we take to this historic vote we're bursting with=20 more and more pride.=20=20=20=20
=20
AANR Helping Members
Online & in print – Many of you 05 recall an article that ran in=20 The Bulletin several months ago about how to encourage a reluctant=20 spouse, loved one, or family member to give nude recreation a try.=20=20 The tips we published came from fellow AANR members and clubs as=20 posted in our online message boards.
=20
This week we saw proof that these valuable contributions and=20 insights from fellow members makes a difference: While doing=20 some "maintenance" on the online message boards we came across this=20 posted topic: "She said yes!" The posting went on to relay a new=20 member's elation that his reluctant spouse had actually suggested=20 that it was time for them to visit their local nude beach, and they=20 were headed for their trip this month! The poster went on to thank=20 the many people who had offered suggestions, encouragement, and=20 admonition to be patient.
=20
Thanks to so many of you who make the collective credible voice for=20 nude recreation in AANR.
=20
Texas =96 This week AANR worked with a single mom in the Lone Star=20 State who is an AANR member and needed assistance after her 16-year- old son's regular visits to a local club has come into question=20 during court proceedings. We've made ourselves available to mom's=20 attorney to lend a hand with information on nude recreation.
=20
Florida =96 Similarly, in Florida this week a husband and wife (both=20 members) called after an
ex-spouse began making waves about their fitness to be parents=20 simply because they hold membership in a local nudist club. This=20 couple only began attending within the last two years. As their=20 teenage children were already older and involved in other activities=20 when the couple started, they have not attended the club. AANR has=20 provided extensive materials to their attorney.
=20
Pennsylvania =96 There's some indication that persons involved in a=20 legal dispute with a club in this state might subpoena various=20 records. On Monday AANR was in communication with the club's=20 attorney about how sensitive information can be protected.=20=20
=20
Arizona =96 Okay, this one does not directly involve a member. But we=20 were able to provide some basic information to a couple referred to=20 us at the suggestion of one of our Arizona clubs. Though not=20 practicing nudists, these folks do routine showering and dressing in=20 the morning in the presence of family. You guessed it: there are=20 others who frown on that. The referral to us, as well as the basic=20 information we shared, is one more way that AANR serves as a=20 credible voice of reason on the subject of nudity.
=20
Linda Berry, Director of Publications
I have been out of the office most of this week. My mother-in-law=20 passed away, and the funeral was in Alabama. Martha and Lynn kept=20 the work flow going, and there was definitely plenty of work to=20 flow! Thanks so much, Martha and Lynn.=20
=20
The Bulletin
Lynn has been inputting and proofing stories as well as scanning=20 photos for the 05 issue of The Bulletin.=20
=20
Procedure Manual and Minutes
The 2006 Midwinter Board of Trustees Minutes and the revised=20 Procedure Manual and Forms are available online in both the member=20 benefits and club services areas of www.aanr.com. If you would like=20 a hard copy, please contact Nanette Wickersham in the AANR office.
=20
Youth=20 Brochure
The youth brochure is available in hard copy as well as online in=20 the download section of the member benefits area.=20
=20
New Brochures Available
The revised women's brochure and both versions of the new Enjoy Life=20 Naturally brochure arrived from the printer. They're beautiful!=20 They're not available online yet.=20
=20
Other Projects
This week artwork was created for the Assateague beach cleanup t- shirts; the Cape Cod button art went to the printer; the member=20 benefit cards were revised and sent to the printer; the voter's=20 guide was finalized and sent to the printer; the AANR letterhead was=20 revised and sent to the printer; billing was done for last month's=20 Bulletin; statements were mailed; and ads were created for this=20 month's Bulletin.=20
=20
Carolyn Hawkins, Public Relations Coordinator=20
Wonderful Publicity
Check out this great article that appeared in The Burlington Free=20 Press. This is an example of what our PR Firm, YPB&R is doing for=20 us.
http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article? AID=3D/20060331/LIVING/603310324/1004&theme=3D=20
=20
I-95 Welcome Center Event a Success
The trip to the I-95 Welcome Center in Jacksonville was a great=20 success. We met many visitors who expressed interest in nude=20 recreation. We handed out brochures such as the From A Woman's=20 Perspective, List of Clubs, and the standard AANR brochure. This=20 was an education to the public, and we are very well received by the=20 Visit Florida folks. We are planning on a visit to the I-75 welcome=20 center in the near future.
=20
Clubs Request Consultants
We have received several questionnaires from clubs requesting a=20 consultant. Some of these have been assigned. See Erich's report=20 for full report.
=20
Room Reservations for AANR Convention
Reminder — book your room reservations for AANR's 75th anniversary=20 celebration. This will be one you will not want to miss. You can=20 check with DeAnza regarding reservations, but as of right now they=20 are full. You could go on the waiting list if you like. DeAnza's=20 phone numbers are 619-766-4301, or 877-246-6833. I am including the=20 hotel contact information for the area.=20=20
=20
Lux Inn =96 approximately 7 miles from DeAnza
(619) 766-9005 39739 Avenida De Robles Verdes Boulevard, CA 91905
Room rate is $260.00 for the week, or $59.40 per night
=20
Jacumba Hot Springs Spa =96 Approximately 3 miles from DeAnza Phone =96 619-766-4333 Room rate is $70.20 which includes use of the facility.
=20
I suggest that you make your reservations as early as possible.
=20
Patricia Orner, Government Affairs Coordinator=20
Bill Passes without Our Proposed Language
This week we watched as OH SB 245; which AANR has tracked since it=20 came up in a Statenet search 1-3-2006; suddenly was revived in=20 committee =96 passed as a substitute bill =96 sent to the Senate floor=20 and passed without amendment =96 all in a few days. Erich and I were=20 able to see the live broadcast of the session, and as predicted the=20 bill was amended and passed without the proposed language we had=20 hoped to include. The moral of this story is that legislation is=20 sometimes like a hurricane. It can grow into a storm, sit for long=20 periods almost dormant, then pick up speed without notice and come=20 to land. Fortunately, AANR never judged OH SB 245/HB 95 as a=20 category 5 potential storm. It targets a class of offenders that no=20 one wants free to roam our communities. UNFORTUNATELY =96 the language=20 is ambiguous enough that AANR feels all members should be careful =96=20 very careful =96 to not be seen as "knowingly" or "recklessly" in=20 violation of this law.
=20
Great Outdoors Week
Plans have been finalized for the AANR GAT annual visit to=20 Washington, D.C. as part of Great Outdoors Week in June.=20
=20
FANR GAT/CAT Projects
Hugh Williams and I are working on a plan outlining those GAT/CAT=20 projects which FANR will be taking on this year. Hugh is also making=20 strides on an article looking at the cause, affect and solutions to=20 obesity in the nudist culture. Being a recreational culture and with=20 obesity among the top five priorities in every state and the nations=20 capital =96 this is a HUGE project (pardon the pun).
