AANR Weekly Report for April 21, 2006

Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director Assateague Beach Cleanup is Tomorrow!
Be sure to review AANR Government Affairs Coordinator Pat Orner's report below for the latest details on time and location of the annual AANR/AANR East Cleanup at Assateague Beach in Maryland. Carolyn Hawkins and Steve Vickers of our office are already "on the ground" there and coordinating what 05 be the largest group turnout yet for this project.provided that weather holds out.
Those who participate this year receive a classic AANR bright yellow Clothes 05 Come Off Without Warning t-shirt, plus a flying disc with beach etiquette imprinted on it. Team hours will also count to the Association's volunteer tally with the Take Pride in America program, so please encourage clubs and members you know to join Carolyn, Steve, and lobbyist Don Murphy tomorrow.
The Word for the Week is. College!
If I were asked to summarize this week's major developments into one word it would be college. Here's why:
First, a few weeks ago AANR Midwest Government Affairs contact Paula Fowler let us know about a student nudist club at a university in Indiana that's trying to get off the ground. The group encountered a few challenges with school policy, and we wrote to the club's organizer this week outlining ways we 05 be able to help. These include reviewing the policy being used to limit the club, plus suggesting alternate venues for club events. AANR General Counsel Jawn Bauer who is based in the Hoosier state is lending a hand.
Second, AANR President Pat Brown informed me that the Willamettans club recently welcomed two women enrolled as graduate students at the University of Oregon in folklore programs who wanted to interview nudists for a class project. These women talked to many people during a club event to celebrate re-opening of its pool.and they heard a lot of positive stories about why folks enjoy nude recreation. AANR is following up with press kit information.
Third, it's worth noting that two other women, who serve as editors to the campus newspaper at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, wrote a column this week encouraging fellow students to enjoy their birthday suits more this spring. And they made brief positive mention of AANR too! Their article, found at http://phoenix.swarthmore.edu/2006-04-20/living/16149 starts with some interesting language "paralleling" biblical verse from Genesis before moving on to discuss the virtues of going bare. Language from our Web site ("when you take off your clothes you put on a smile"), plus references to AANR by name shows that some collective efforts have brought these two students to learn more.
It is very encouraging that on so many college campuses nudity is "in" again. and it is particularly promising that young women are demonstrating such strong interest. It speaks well of PR, WINR, and college outreach efforts.
While we're on the subject of college, please don't forget that Nude University will be offered at Cypress Cove in Florida from June 9-11, 2006. Also remember that we're seeking "20 somethings" for consultants in our marketing program targeting Generation X that will also take place at the Cove, June 11-18, 2006. The weather is a bit nippy and the forecast for some rain has caused a few volunteers to cancel – but it still looks like AANR will increase our presence this year and this will be a fun event. Special thanks to Steven Stoller who stepped up, arranged to get the TPIA banner, and will take it to the beach tomorrow. In addition to the special edition "CAUTION" tee shirts – volunteers will have bottled water and fruit snacks and the newest AANR promotional beach etiquette will be introduced. Look for the photos next week and see if you can tell what this exciting new item is.
In Session
There are 20 states and DC in Regular Session. OH is in Skeleton Session.
