AANR Weekly Report April 28, 2006

Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
Ballots Are Out!

The 05 issue of The Bulletin, including ballots for voting in AANR’s first one-member-one-vote election, are out! We have already been hearing from members who have received theirs and either dropped ballots in the mail or gone online to vote. Please don’t forget to complete the optional customer service survey that appears on the reverse side of your ballot (or at the close of the online process for those using the Internet).

No Mail Voters
Last week our office included bright yellow notices in each packet in our club mailing. The notices explained where “no mail” members can turn to receive a ballot or PIN number for voting. (No mail members are AANR voting members in good standing who have elected not to receive any mailings from our office, including The Bulletin.) Here’s the contact information again: Simply call VR Elections toll-free to 800-218-4026 Monday through Friday 8:30-5:00 Central Time. Or send an e-mail to custserv@vres.us
Please note: Because VR Elections, the company doing our election, conducts several elections at any given time, your members 05 get the information they need more quickly if they explain that they are calling with a “P Number.” This will help the VR staff more quickly identify the appropriate course of action because most non-AANR elections use a social security number rather than the P Number which our members have.

Assateague Beach Cleanup – Many Thanks!

Special thanks are extended to all who made the cleanup project on Assateague Beach in Maryland possible last weekend. According to Carolyn Hawkins, more than 30 volunteers showed up to pick up litter, dig trenches for new water lines, and more. A future issue of The Bulletin will include stories and pictures.

This work is part of AANR and AANR East’s ongoing efforts to secure a clothing-optional area on the Maryland section of this National Seashore. Initiatives like the cleanup establish goodwill and rapport with local citizens and seashore staff. Moreover, the event was registered as a Take Pride in America activity, gaining recognition for nudists with various federal agencies. We deeply appreciate the hard work that made this year’s event happen.despite some weather that didn’t want to cooperate.

AANR Marketing Consultant Project

Last weekend one of AANR’s consultants, volunteers, and committee chair George Morrison presented key elements of the marketing consultant curricula to representatives from clubs across the AANR Midwest Region in conjunction with the region’s spring board meeting.

About 20 different clubs (and even more people since some clubs sent 2-3 people) received helpful information about improving membership sales, leveraging PR to market one’s club, branding basics, and more including a set of written materials. Thanks to George and to AANR Midwest President Mark Hammond for arranging the training and to all who participated. We appreciate WCANR’s interest in conducting a similar session in its region.

While we’re on the subject of the consultant program, this week Carolyn Hawkins and Steve Vickers sent sets of marketing materials to three more AANR clubs, who should receive them shortly. The next step is to match each club with a trained consultant who best fits the club’s needs.

In all, this marks 13 clubs that have been sent materials. Factoring in the clubs reached during the AANR Midwest Conference, 34 clubs have received some form of assistance. This is in addition to other clubs which sent a consultant to our original training in February.

Get in on the Desert Shadows Government Affairs Fundraiser

It’s not too late to get in on a chance to win a GREAT trip to Desert Shadows Club in Palm Springs as part of AANR’s Government Affairs fundraiser, but time is drawing short. To donate–each $5 donation buys one chance to win–visit the AANR store section of the AANR website.

Another College Update

Last week we brought you news of AANR/club developments on several college campuses from Pennsylvania to Oregon. This week a University student wrote Steve Vickers to personally thank him for materials sent and used as part of a class speech project there. The student reported that the speech was well received by the class.

Carolyn Hawkins, Public Relations Coordinator

Take Pride In America

Special thanks to Carolyn Hawkins for the Friends of Assateague State Park (FOASP) beach clean up last Saturday. The weather was a bit nippy and the rain had caused more than few volunteers to cancel – but we are able to report 23 participants from AANR and 145 volunteer TPIA hours. In addition to the 57 special edition “CAUTION” tee shirts given away AANR supplied bottled water and fruit snacks and the newest AANR promotional beach etiquette flying disk was introduced.

Look for the photos on the Yahoo group chat site AANRGovernmentAffairs <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AANRGovernmentAffairs/> . The dollars allocated to this partnership will result in more positive public awareness than we could ever buy.
Revenue projects
With the Desert Shadows GA Challenge drawing ending in May; we have again placed a pitch on the Yahoo chat site and in the Cyber Bulletin to encourage more chances purchased.
Donations to the silent auction will be marketed in the coming weeks by the AANR West team according to Debra Sue Stevens. Flyers will be sent to all clubs reminding them of the ever increasing importance of keeping government affairs and legal assistance operational as well as hyping the fun we will have at this year’s auction.
Region Support

AANR NW: This week we assisted in drafting a municipal nudity ordinance in Oregon.

AANR Midwest: AANR is working with Jawn Bauer (AANR’s Legal advisor) on a college issue prohibiting nudity as an art form. AANR is also working with an applicant for a new club in Missouri, assisting the developer with the complicated zoning requirements for a landed facility.

FANR: AANR has been working with a member who resides at a nudist park who is attempting to get visitation rights for her grandchildren. She has reported that, at this time, the family will accept visitation away from the resort . Hugh Williams completed training on StateNet.

AANR West: The region, as host of the AANR convention, is getting geared up for the August silent auction, the important fund raiser for GA/Legal dollars. AANR West GAT chair (Debra Sue Stevens) has assembled a fantastic team. Trustees wishing to donate their services as auction items (dinner served to you by ____; have ______ carry your bags to your car; _____ challenges ____ and the one raising the least $$ will shave their head; etc,. should contact her

AANR East: Jimmy Corsentino has just returned from representing AANR East at the ARVC issues conference.

AANR SW: Gary Spangler will complete StateNet training this week
Please be sure to let your regional GAT Chair know who your CAT contact is.

AANR Weekly Report for April 21, 2006

Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director Assateague Beach Cleanup is Tomorrow!
Be sure to review AANR Government Affairs Coordinator Pat Orner's report below for the latest details on time and location of the annual AANR/AANR East Cleanup at Assateague Beach in Maryland. Carolyn Hawkins and Steve Vickers of our office are already "on the ground" there and coordinating what 05 be the largest group turnout yet for this project.provided that weather holds out.
Those who participate this year receive a classic AANR bright yellow Clothes 05 Come Off Without Warning t-shirt, plus a flying disc with beach etiquette imprinted on it. Team hours will also count to the Association's volunteer tally with the Take Pride in America program, so please encourage clubs and members you know to join Carolyn, Steve, and lobbyist Don Murphy tomorrow.
The Word for the Week is. College!
If I were asked to summarize this week's major developments into one word it would be college. Here's why:
First, a few weeks ago AANR Midwest Government Affairs contact Paula Fowler let us know about a student nudist club at a university in Indiana that's trying to get off the ground. The group encountered a few challenges with school policy, and we wrote to the club's organizer this week outlining ways we 05 be able to help. These include reviewing the policy being used to limit the club, plus suggesting alternate venues for club events. AANR General Counsel Jawn Bauer who is based in the Hoosier state is lending a hand.
Second, AANR President Pat Brown informed me that the Willamettans club recently welcomed two women enrolled as graduate students at the University of Oregon in folklore programs who wanted to interview nudists for a class project. These women talked to many people during a club event to celebrate re-opening of its pool.and they heard a lot of positive stories about why folks enjoy nude recreation. AANR is following up with press kit information.
Third, it's worth noting that two other women, who serve as editors to the campus newspaper at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, wrote a column this week encouraging fellow students to enjoy their birthday suits more this spring. And they made brief positive mention of AANR too! Their article, found at http://phoenix.swarthmore.edu/2006-04-20/living/16149 starts with some interesting language "paralleling" biblical verse from Genesis before moving on to discuss the virtues of going bare. Language from our Web site ("when you take off your clothes you put on a smile"), plus references to AANR by name shows that some collective efforts have brought these two students to learn more.
It is very encouraging that on so many college campuses nudity is "in" again. and it is particularly promising that young women are demonstrating such strong interest. It speaks well of PR, WINR, and college outreach efforts.
While we're on the subject of college, please don't forget that Nude University will be offered at Cypress Cove in Florida from June 9-11, 2006. Also remember that we're seeking "20 somethings" for consultants in our marketing program targeting Generation X that will also take place at the Cove, June 11-18, 2006. For more information, contact Steve Vickers at prasst@aanr.com.

Clubs Can Help Support Youth Camps
JAANR's Chair is once again asking clubs to donate promotional items like T-shirts, flying discs, mugs, and other giveaways that can be used as prizes and "goody bag" stuffers to attendees of various camps.

Please mail your items to:
Judy Grisham
AANR Youth Chair
548 Prather Dr.
Ft. The weather is a bit nippy and the forecast for some rain has caused a few volunteers to cancel – but it still looks like AANR will increase our presence this year and this will be a fun event. Special thanks to Steven Stoller who stepped up, arranged to get the TPIA banner, and will take it to the beach tomorrow. In addition to the special edition "CAUTION" tee shirts – volunteers will have bottled water and fruit snacks and the newest AANR promotional beach etiquette will be introduced. Look for the photos next week and see if you can tell what this exciting new item is.
In Session
There are 20 states and DC in Regular Session. OH is in Skeleton Session. AANR Weekly Report for April 14, 2006

By admin at 10:34 am on April 14, 2006 | No comments
AANR Weekly Report for April 14, 2006
Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
Let me begin by wishing you our clubs, officers, trustees, region officials, and fellow members the very best during this special week and holiday weekend. Whether this means Easter, Passover, or simply the beginning of spring to you, one thing is definite: It is a perfect time to celebrate and spend time with friends and family.
We're glad that you're part of the AANR family, and we celebrate you!
ABC's Wife Swap Revisited
I appreciate the AANR clubs and leaders who joined us Wednesday evening on a telephone conference to further discuss issues and concerns related to a recent "casting call" for nudist families from the producers of ABC's Wife Swap program. During the telephone conference a number of very good points were raised flagging various pros, cons, and unknowns. It's universally agreed that no one has a crystal ball to determine what will happen if/when a nudist family agrees to appear on the show. However, AANR's public relations experts at YPB&R were on hand to explain some likely scenarios and the pitfalls of making an appearance.
Given what these experts know, it is our recommendation that legitimate AANR nudists not be lured by ABC's offer. (For your convenience, we are re-running our previous announcement this week at the close of this report.) Please remember that AANR remains a willing and ready resource to assist our clubs and their members with questions and guidance in any media issue from promotions to crisis management. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you.
While We're on the Subject of Solicitations to Clubs. The Colors of Naturism
Over the past two weeks we've been contacted by several clubs that have received phone and e-mail solicitations from a group claiming to be students from University of Southern Florida (note that this is NOT the same as University of South Florida.to our knowledge there is no such thing as a University of SouthERN Florida). The students claim to be nudists wishing to perform a presentation at clubs known as the "colors of naturism." The students also claim to come from all corners of the globe and that they have performed at other AANR clubs. Depending on which club the "colors group" contacts, they drop the names of different clubs. In at least one case to date, the group has promised to appear for a presentation and simply not shown.
At this time we're not sure if this is a harmless college prank, a set up for a future solicitation (they do not appear to be seeking money.at least not at this time), or people who mean well but are extremely disorganized. In any event, we're concerned that this 05 cost you time planning and contacting other clubs. Should you be contacted, please let us know. And please refer calls to the AANR office so that we can do some vetting on this on behalf of all clubs.
Marketing Consultant Update
To date, 18 AANR clubs have signed up for the Association's all new Marketing Consultant program where they'll meet with a qualified marketing and/or PR professional and receive personalized, valuable information on attracting new members. The program is free to clubs and is made possible by the generous support of the AANR W, AANR NW, AANR E, and FANR regions.
Of the 18 clubs enrolled, 11 have been sent customized binders. These include written exercises for assessing marketing strengths, weaknesses, and much more, plus a personalized Claritas profile analyzing the demographics of the club's membership to review prior to consultation. These clubs have also been placed in touch with the volunteer consultant whom they'll be working with.
If your club is one of the other eight that has sent us an enrollment questionnaire but not yet heard from us, you will soon. We appreciate your patience as we take some time to customize your information.
"Twenty Something" Marketing Opportunity
AANR's efforts to extend marketing don't stop with the Consultants project. Currently we're recruiting "twenty somethings" for training to reach those who are in college or beginning careers about the stress-freeing benefits of nude recreation and membership in AANR. Program topics range from speaker and media training to leveraging the Internet. If you know nudists in the appropriate age range, why not encourage them to participate in this opportunity, to be held from June 11 to June 18 at Cypress Cove. For more information on registering and costs (some of which 05 be eligible for deferment), please e-mail to Steve Vickers of the AANR office at prasst@aanr.com.
Election Update
Next Tuesday Linda Berry and Martha Young of the AANR Publications department will be traveling to the offices of the company that coordinates mailing The Bulletin. They will provide consultation on inserting ballots and voter guides (both already printed) with the 05 issue. It's a detailed project, because members from each region receive a "smart ballot" customized for their region. National Members–who pay an introductory rate that includes Bulletin service but are non-voting members–are filtered from receiving ballots.
I'd like to thank Linda, Martha, and Cindy Horton from our staff for their hard work in helping to make sure that the right lists are pulled from our database to get the right things into the hands of the right people. Please join me in thanking them. If you have not done so, I invite you to visit The Ballot box within the membership services area of the aanr.com Web site to learn more about our candidates for office. You'll simply need your last name and P Number as they appear on your membership card in order to access services.
Interesting Trivia Today.
Did you know that "Richter" of the "Richter Scale" was a nudist?
While perusing news stories related to nudity and nudism this morning I came across an interesting factoid related to San Francisco's remembrance of its great earthquake. It seems the Charles Richter, of the famed Richter scale used to gauge the intensity of earthquakes, was also a nudist. This story from ABC makes only passing reference to the fact and doesn't elaborate. But it makes interesting reading. The link to the article is http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=1842238 Ironically, it's written by Adam Tanner (Could you think of a better name for a nudist than Adam–first nudist–Tanner?)
Linda Berry, Director of Publications
The Bulletin
The 05 issue printed today, and our focus now is on the June magazine. This is your last chance to reserve extra copies of the magazine at the pre-press price. The cost for shipping/handing is $2.95 each; 50+ $2.00 each. After 05 1, the price will increase to $3.95 each; 50+ $3.00 each. Clubs, advertisers, and member households receive only one copy each. VA should be sure to check the club mailing for event brochures and support card template. If we want to regain a dedicated area on this beach, we NEED more volunteers.
ELECTION CONNECTION
Is there an opportunity for you to make an ELECTION CONNECTION this year? OH is in Skeleton Session. NJ is in budget hearings. There is one state in Special Session. Three more regional GAT/CAT chairs are scheduled for StateNet training. This tool allows you to contact your regional chair to look up state legislation and regulations as you hear of them or to watch for legislation that 05 affect your club. CAT representatives are needed for each club so that our grassroots efforts 05 continue and prosper.
LIBRARY OF CONGRESS
I attended a meeting this week at the American Nudist Research Library (ANRL) to discuss the progress and AANR support of their Library of Congress projects. ANRL has already donated several very old 35mm nudist movies to the Library of Congress, as it could no longer maintain the increasing fragile celluloid. Plans are now being discussed to convert more historical materials to digital format and to submit more items. Having our culture recognized by this organization supports the position that AANR is the credible voice of reason for nude recreation, and AANR applauds the hard work of the ANRL volunteers. Visit their web site and learn more about the library at http://www.anrl.org/
Carolyn Hawkins, Public Relations Coordinator
Carolyn is traveling to Maryland for the Assateague beach cleanup, but she wanted to remind you about the award deadlines.
2006 CONVENTION AWARDS
The deadline for submission of documentation and materials for all awards is 05 31, unless otherwise noted. Given the volume of letters that we understand were sent, it's likely that you received one also.
Summarized, producer Catherine Pappas is baiting clubs with a large cash offer if they will provide a referral to a nudist family with at least one child to participate in the show. The family that participates is baited with an even more substantial sum. i.e. $20,000.
In the interest of time we will not fully explore the disadvantages of taking Ms. Pappas's bait. However, we'd ask you to consider the following:
* First, by her own admission this producer compiled her list by visiting a highly suspicious website known as www.purenudism.com <http://www.purenudism.com/> If you follow the link to this site you'll find that it shamelessly sells access to more than 85,000 nude pictures (the site's wording contains multiple references to "all age nudity") for $29.95 per month. Purenudism.com titillates visitors with a note that their "subscription" includes access to over 100,000 XXX images plus videos also because they want to put "a little bit extra" into the package. So, while Ms. Pappas claims that she is seeking to dispel "a distorted idea of what nudism is really about" her research via the above site says otherwise. We are taking steps to have AANR clubs removed from pure nudism's listings — which are available to subscribers only. * Second, we consulted the AANR Public Relations professionals at Yesawich, Pepperdine, Brown and Russell who immediately contacted the Wife Swap's producers. Per their conversation the show will not allow the family that participates to review their show before it broadcasts and they will not allow the family any say in whether a show — no matter how damaging — ultimately airs. In fact, a family must sign a waiver of their rights before taping even begins. * Third, those who have seen the show know that it frequently makes a mockery of those who agree to its terms. While it is true that a family might be portrayed fairly as Ms. Pappas's letter assures, the show's tract record suggests that is not probable. * Finally, we note that others within the nudist and naturist community have weighed in with similar admonitions.
We recognize that our clubs will have many questions about this issue. We have, therefore, arranged a toll free teleconference with our public relations professionals at 8 o'clock p.m. Eastern Time tomorrow evening, Wednesday April 12. To participate in this toll free call, simply dial 1-888-272-7337and enter the conference I.D. 5889153 when prompted.
We appreciate your assistance in maintaining the credible voice for nude recreation.
Sun-cerely
Erich Schuttauf J.D. AANR Weekly Report for April 7, 2006

By admin at 12:53 pm on April 7, 2006 | No comments

AANR Weekly Report for April 7, 2006
Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
AANR Ballots are Off to the Printer!
This week the AANR staff and some dedicated volunteers finished final proofreads on the seven regional "smart ballots" prepared by VR Election Systems that will be mailed and made available to members online beginning with the mailing of the/05/2006 issue of The Bulletin. VR is an independent firm handling AANR's historic first one-member-one-vote election.
This week we also certified the list of those members eligible to vote in the upcoming election.
Members on "No Mail" Status Eligible to Vote!
In preparing AANR's eligible voter list, we learned that there are approximately 2,700 who have opted for "no mail" status with us. For reasons of privacy, they receive NO communications directly from our office. However, as full members, they are eligible to vote. We're counting on AANR clubs to help spread the word that these members 05 obtain access to VR Elections' online voting–or have a ballot sent to them–by contacting the company and providing verification information. We will make this contact information on VR Elections available as the election approaches.
New Content on AANR.com Website – and How to Access It!
With candidate information on all those seeking positions in the upcoming election available online in our "Ballot Box" area, a number of you have contacted us to request that we clarify the procedures for accessing the Ballot Box and the rest of the members' only area of our website.
First, you should visit aanr.com and select the tab that says member benefits. Someone once told us that the CVB's visitor center is the best place to help steer visiting relatives, friends and acquaintances to sites of interest! (I think the actual comment was: "Could you tell my visiting mother-in-law where to go?") We have many suggested itineraries for day trips and overnight excursions. We know out-of-the-way places to visit and we get some unusual requests, as well (someone asked us last week where the local nudist camp was they had heard Lou Scally talking about it on WJEJ). The Downtown Hagerstown Visitor Welcome Center is open six days per week all year long, and seven days per week from mid-April through October. If you haven't been there lately, stop in and see what we have to offer!
This is example of our relationship with "Visit Florida"The citation is NY Times Style magazine "Travel Spring 2006" (Mar 19, 2006), "Florida — For the Traveler Who Wants Everything." Each page has the logo "VisitFlorida TM The State's Official Source for Travel Planning." The section is a 4 paragraph one headed "Beaches, beaches everywhere." Last paragraph is on Canaveral National Seashore. Last sentence reads as follows: "Your company for miles 05 be a pair of fishermen, a few shellers and, off in the frothy distance, a handful of nude bathers."
Visit Florida is a very good partner and has invited us for up to a week during each month to set up a table at the Welcome Centers and promote nude recreation. We have done this at the I-75 and I-95 Centers and it has proved to be a very good experience.
Clubs Request Consultants
The pre-visit questionnaires continue to come in. If your club has not filled out the questionnaire, or you need a copy please let me know and I will get it to you.
Room Reservations for AANR Convention
Reminder — book your room reservations for AANR's 75th anniversary celebration. This will be one you will not want to miss. You can check with DeAnza regarding reservations, but as of right now they are full. You could go on the waiting list if you like. DeAnza's phone numbers are 619-766-4301, or 877-246-6833. I am including the hotel contact information for the area.
Lux Inn – approximately 7 miles from DeAnza
(619) 766-9005 39739 Avenida De Robles Verdes Boulevard, CA 91905
Room rate is $260.00 for the week, or $59.40 per night
Jacumba Hot Springs Spa – Approximately 3 miles from DeAnza
Phone – 619-766-4333
Room rate is $70.20 which includes use of the facility.
I suggest that you make your reservations as early as possible.
Patricia Orner, Government Affairs Coordinator
Revenue Sources
As of the end of February the Government/Legal income (4675) is down $3,172.05. Holding down expenses $1,759.15 below budget during the same period puts us at a net loss of $1,412.90. A new process for increasing GA Challenge revenues is being implemented this month. Alonzo Stevens has also accepted the responsibility under the umbrella of the GAT committee for the annual convention silent auction fundraisers – starting with this year's event. The nude artwork, so popular at last year's auction, has been producing donations from walk in traffic at the AANR office, and we are exploring ways to expand this revenue source. Donation jars at all beach cleanup events will bring in additional dollars.
Take Pride In America
With April 22 sneaking up fast, this week AANR ordered volunteer shirts for the Friends of Assateague Beach Spring cleanup and finalized the design of the AANR Beach Etiquette Flying Disk. We will have a donation jar at these events to help offset the cost and AANR-East is participating as a sponsor.
Networking
I was recently asked to explain how AANR members benefited by our participation in Partners Outdoors 2006. As I was preparing this week for our GAT trip to Washington, DC in June I was reminded of what was imparted to me by Turner Stokes at Partners Outdoors 2005. Turner told me that money spent making networking connections is harder to find because it is not as easy to picture long-term results. Just like the attorney in Hillsborough County Florida who remembered Erich from meeting years before – personal connections made in the safe environment show decision makers and influencers that AANR members are just ordinary people that prefer to live and recreate without the shackles of textiles. Watch the Government Affairs page on the web site for more on networking as a GAT/CAT tool.
ELECTION CONNECTION
Is there an opportunity for you to make an ELECTION CONNECTION this year? Only if you live in one of the states listed on the 2006 Election Year Calendar available now on the Government Affairs page on the web site. Will meeting a trustee from AANR impress a candidate? Should every club hold candidate forums and invite politicians to come and speak to AANR voters? Should AANR start a Political Action Committee (PAC) fund to let politicians know that we will support those who support our issues just as other associations do?

AANR Weekly Report for March 31, 2006

By admin at 6:20 pm on April 1, 2006 | No comments

AANR Weekly Report for March 31, 2006
Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
Excitement Growing for AANR's First One-Member-One-Vote Election
A number of our clubs have contacted AANR letting us know that=20 they've visited the candidate profiles on all those running for=20 office and trustee positions. The profiles are available by clicking=20 on "ballot box" in our member benefits area.=20=20
=20
Some of you have also asked whether the candidate information will=20 be available in other formats=85 and the answer is YES. With each=20 edition of the 05 Bulletin, voting members will get ballots as well=20 as a printed voter guide containing very similar information to the=20 online profiles.=20=20=20=20
=20
At the suggestion of a number of folks, we're considering a separate=20 comment area where folks can post uplifting information on behalf of=20 candidates of their choice. We'll keep you updated when we create=20 the area if we can be sure to get "the bugs" out of doing so.
=20
The one-member-one-vote structure of AANR, combined with a system to=20 assure that its board represents both members and clubs of all=20 strata is probably the best example that AANR is your association.=20 It's my association. It's our association of members and clubs.=20=20 With each step we take to this historic vote we're bursting with=20 more and more pride.=20=20=20=20
=20
AANR Helping Members
Online & in print – Many of you 05 recall an article that ran in=20 The Bulletin several months ago about how to encourage a reluctant=20 spouse, loved one, or family member to give nude recreation a try.=20=20 The tips we published came from fellow AANR members and clubs as=20 posted in our online message boards.
=20
This week we saw proof that these valuable contributions and=20 insights from fellow members makes a difference: While doing=20 some "maintenance" on the online message boards we came across this=20 posted topic: "She said yes!" The posting went on to relay a new=20 member's elation that his reluctant spouse had actually suggested=20 that it was time for them to visit their local nude beach, and they=20 were headed for their trip this month! The poster went on to thank=20 the many people who had offered suggestions, encouragement, and=20 admonition to be patient.
=20
Thanks to so many of you who make the collective credible voice for=20 nude recreation in AANR.
=20
Texas =96 This week AANR worked with a single mom in the Lone Star=20 State who is an AANR member and needed assistance after her 16-year- old son's regular visits to a local club has come into question=20 during court proceedings. We've made ourselves available to mom's=20 attorney to lend a hand with information on nude recreation.
=20
Florida =96 Similarly, in Florida this week a husband and wife (both=20 members) called after an
ex-spouse began making waves about their fitness to be parents=20 simply because they hold membership in a local nudist club. This=20 couple only began attending within the last two years. As their=20 teenage children were already older and involved in other activities=20 when the couple started, they have not attended the club. AANR has=20 provided extensive materials to their attorney.
=20
Pennsylvania =96 There's some indication that persons involved in a=20 legal dispute with a club in this state might subpoena various=20 records. On Monday AANR was in communication with the club's=20 attorney about how sensitive information can be protected.=20=20
=20
Arizona =96 Okay, this one does not directly involve a member. But we=20 were able to provide some basic information to a couple referred to=20 us at the suggestion of one of our Arizona clubs. Though not=20 practicing nudists, these folks do routine showering and dressing in=20 the morning in the presence of family. You guessed it: there are=20 others who frown on that. The referral to us, as well as the basic=20 information we shared, is one more way that AANR serves as a=20 credible voice of reason on the subject of nudity.
=20
Linda Berry, Director of Publications
I have been out of the office most of this week. My mother-in-law=20 passed away, and the funeral was in Alabama. Martha and Lynn kept=20 the work flow going, and there was definitely plenty of work to=20 flow! Thanks so much, Martha and Lynn.=20
=20
The Bulletin
Lynn has been inputting and proofing stories as well as scanning=20 photos for the 05 issue of The Bulletin.=20
=20
Procedure Manual and Minutes
The 2006 Midwinter Board of Trustees Minutes and the revised=20 Procedure Manual and Forms are available online in both the member=20 benefits and club services areas of www.aanr.com. We met many visitors who expressed interest in nude=20 recreation. We handed out brochures such as the From A Woman's=20 Perspective, List of Clubs, and the standard AANR brochure. This=20 was an education to the public, and we are very well received by the=20 Visit Florida folks. We are planning on a visit to the I-75 welcome=20 center in the near future.
=20
Clubs Request Consultants
We have received several questionnaires from clubs requesting a=20 consultant. This will be one you will not want to miss. You can=20 check with DeAnza regarding reservations, but as of right now they=20 are full. You could go on the waiting list if you like. DeAnza's=20 phone numbers are 619-766-4301, or 877-246-6833. Erich and I were=20 able to see the live broadcast of the session, and as predicted the=20 bill was amended and passed without the proposed language we had=20 hoped to include. The moral of this story is that legislation is=20 sometimes like a hurricane. It can grow into a storm, sit for long=20 periods almost dormant, then pick up speed without notice and come=20 to land. Fortunately, AANR never judged OH SB 245/HB 95 as a=20 category 5 potential storm. It targets a class of offenders that no=20 one wants free to roam our communities. UNFORTUNATELY =96 the language=20 is ambiguous enough that AANR feels all members should be careful =96=20 very careful =96 to not be seen as "knowingly" or "recklessly" in=20 violation of this law.
=20
Great Outdoors Week
Plans have been finalized for the AANR GAT annual visit to=20 Washington, D.C. as part of Great Outdoors Week in June.=20
=20
FANR GAT/CAT Projects
Hugh Williams and I are working on a plan outlining those GAT/CAT=20 projects which FANR will be taking on this year. Hugh is also making=20 strides on an article looking at the cause, affect and solutions to=20 obesity in the nudist culture. Being a recreational culture and with=20 obesity among the top five priorities in every state and the nations=20 capital =96 this is a HUGE project (pardon the pun).
