AANR Weekly Report for March 24, 2006
=20
Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
=20
Candidate Information Now on AANR.com Website!
They=92re here! All 22 profiles on the candidates running for positions as officers and trustees of YOUR association are now available on the www.aanr.com <http://www.aanr.com/> Web site. They=92re located in the Message Boards area of the Web site under the heading =93Ballot Box=94 then =93Candidate Profiles.=94 Best of all, you don=92t need to formally log into the message boards to view these. Simply go to the Member Benefits area of the site and enter using your last name and membership P Number. Once into the area select =93Ballot Box=94 from the menu of available items. You=92ll find photos as well as detailed biographical information and each candidate=92s personal statement.
We regret that in our haste to get out candidate information last week, we neglected to list Judy Grisham as candidate for Club Trustee in the Group 6/7 category. You=92ll find Judy and all our very qualified candidates on the site above. Personally, I think each member and club owes it to themselves to take a look at the strong pool of talent that your association draws from. Profiles and voting information will also be included in the 05 mailing to AANR members along with their ballots. =20
AANR/FANR Hit Tallahassee
On Tuesday six AANR/FANR staff and volunteers drove to the Florida capitol to join hundreds of other partners of Visit Florida in making visits to lawmakers=92 office on its behalf. As many of you 05 know, Visit Florida is the official tourism arm. Attending this event gave us the opportunity to lend a hand, but also leverage the credibility of Visit Florida to position AANR as the credible voice of reason for nude recreation.
Following a luncheon, our AANR/FANR group broke into three teams of two. Each covered a floor in the Florida Senate. One hour later, we compared notes before making House visits. In all, between 30 and 40 visits were made–we=92re still counting cards! During these visits (mostly with staff, but a few lawmakers too) we reiterated the pitch for Visit Florida=92s budget, as well as pressing for a repeal of certain taxes that have challenged the hospitality industry in the state. We also encouraged support for a bill to =93bring back summer vacation=94 by requiring school districts to begin their year no earlier than one week before Labor Day. (This would help increase family participation from Florida families to AANR Conventions, for example.)
During all of these visits, our team members introduced themselves as representing the American Association for Nude Recreation and the clubs within various lawmakers=92 districts. We provided our business cards and volunteered to be a resource for any questions. We positioned ourselves as concerned with tourism issues because we=92re part of a $400 million tourism niche market.
One interesting fact: Florida lobbying restrictions now prohibit providing lawmakers or staff with any item that has ANY retail value, no matter how small. To quote one advisor who briefed the entire delegation before visits, =93you cannot even provide a cup of water unless you charge the lawmaker for it.=94
Other highlights of the trip included:
- a guest appearance from Charlie Crist, state Attorney General and candidate for Governor;
- a meet and greet where AANR / FANR had an opportunity to invite numerous vendors, Visit Florida Partners;
- a brief stop-in visit with FANR=92s lobbyist
- the entire Florida State college sorority house that Steve Vickers managed to invite for a club visit (true story=85we=92ll let him share that one with you).=20
Visit Florida deeply appreciated our group=92s support and did everything possible to make us welcome. I thank them, as well as the following members of the team who joined me and made this very positive opportunity possible:
- Hugh Williams =96 speaking as an experienced member of local government;
- Bob Migliore =96 AANR Vice President and Canadian =96 speaking as one who spends dollars in our state because of nude recreation;
- Carolyn Hawkins =96 AANR Public Relations;
- Steve Vickers =96 AANR Public Relations and presenter of the college perspective;
- Pat Orner =96 AANR Government Affairs.=20 =20
AANR/FANR at I-95 Welcome Center
AANR and FANR are invited to staff the State Welcome Center this weekend (Put another way, if this isn=92t mainstreaming nude recreation, we don=92t know what is!) While we=92re on the subject of opportunities made possible by Visit Florida=85 It bears mention that Carolyn, Bob Migliore, Bob Erlenmeyer (AANR Trustee and FANR PR chair), and I have been invited to staff a booth WITH nude recreation materials inside the state=92s welcome center this weekend on Interstate 95 at the Georgia-Florida line north of Jacksonville.=20
In previous years, AANR/FANR did have an exhibit table along with other tourist vendors for special annual welcome days. However, this is the FIRST time we have been invited to staff a booth inside the center for a regular weekend=85right along with the Florida orange and grapefruit juice samples, literature racks, etc. For two days we will personally meet and greet travelers coming and going.
Deepest thanks to Bob Erlenmeyer and Carolyn, whose work with Visit Florida continues to make incredible things happen. =20
Fledgling Missouri Club=92s Story Dominates Media
This week many of you wrote to let us know you=92d seen one of many Associated Press or television stories about Caribbean Breeze, a clothing-optional club planned in Missouri. You 05 know from these articles that some area residents have criticized this development, while others are expressing support. You=92ve also read some well-spoken words by Lawrence Schulz, the founder of the club who has answered potentially difficult questions in a way that spoke very well for the industry.
I want to thank Mark Hammond, AANR Midwest President, George Morrison of AANR Midwest, and members of the Forty Acre Club, for their help in maintaining contact with the club. Thanks to these efforts, Mark provided crucial at-the-moment advice as a fellow club owner and also enabled AANR=92s public relations team at YPB&R to touch base and lend a few added insights too. (I appreciate Pat Orner and Cindy Horton of our office who stayed late getting emergency kits express mailed.)
Our understanding of the current status in the situation is that the club will have until sometime later in April before local zoning takes up this matter again. You can read a story about the situation by clicking here: http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/stlouiscit ycounty/story/3A6FC4FE60E8B14F86257138001B094E?OpenDocument
Linda Berry, Director of Publications
The Bulletin
The April issue is on its way to you, and 05 is in production. The voter=92s guide is being proofed and will be sent to the printer early next week. The mail house will insert it as well as the ballot with The Bulletin.=20 =20
June Anniversary Magazine=20
Many of our clubs receive extra copies of The Bulletin each month, free of charge. This will not be the case for the June anniversary magazine. Anyone who wants extra copies must order them in advance. The cost for shipping and handling is $2.95 each; 50 or more is $2.00 each. All members, clubs, and advertisers will receive one complimentary copy.=20
The Cyber-Bulletin
The new Cyber-Bulletin is online. We were invited to this tourism day as a partner of FLA/USA, Visit Florida. We had the chance to visit lawmakers in the House of Representatives and the Senate, introduce ourselves and mention nude recreation. This was a very long day, but great experience.
=20 Florida Welcome Center
Also as a partner with FLAUSA, Visit Florida, we are invited again to work at the Florida Welcome Centers. They have invited us to set up a booth inside the Welcome Centers to display our brochures. We plan to take advantage of this free offer on March 24 & 25 at the I-95 Welcome Center. I will report next week =20
North Carolina Ad
This Asheville, North Carolina ad is for the visitors center =93Anyway you like it=94 and features a nudist couple. www.anywayyoulikeit <http://www.anywayyoulikeit/> look for swimming hole and click to hear the ad
Television – Swimming Hole
SWIMMING HOLE
Quicktime (2,098 KB) <http://www.anywayyoulikeit.com/television/manonropeswing.mo v>=20 Windows Media Video (1,326 KB) <http://www.anywayyoulikeit.com/television/manonropeswing.wm v>=20
Media Calls
We received calls from Regional Associated Press media outlets regarding the growth of businesses which had been family owned. AANR-NW resorts/clubs are very supportive of the work AANR contributes to advocating nudism on public lands in the northwest and it is really nice to hear that it is happening on the East coast. I have been very pleased at the AANR memberships we have gained from the beach clean ups on the West Coast. I know for positive that Sun Meadow gained two memberships and that The Willamettans Family Nudist Resort gained two memberships last month from volunteers I met at the beach clean ups.
In addition to AANR memberships AANR-NW GAT gained a very committed volunteer in Montana by AANR sponsoring beach cleanups at Rooster Rock State Park in Oregon.
Resorts have much to gain by supporting the work AANR contributes to advocating nudism on public lands.=94
Shirley Gauthier
AANR-NW GAT Chair =20
Take Pride in America (TPIA)
The FOASP Spring Clean Up will be added to the AANR 2005-06 list of volunteer hours when we hit the beach April 22 as will the Cape Cod in June. To extend the branding concept, AANR will promote use of the =93CAUTION=85=94 yellow tee shirts at all beach events with specific event dates, TPIA logo and sponsors printed on the back.=20
A look into future nudist products
I will track to see if this is in fact a nude character in this game. It sounds silly at first =96 but the future of nudity is (1) in the game playing hands of the X-Gen=92s (2) will be related to the legislation that kills or supports products like these (3) making connections between nudity and simple fun is a good thing and (4) buying this game for my narrow minded son-in-law will give me great pleasure lol lol lol
Flitzer =96 Streaking on Mobile
(http://www.myth-games.com/news1212.htm )
The German publisher dtp will release an off-beat football experience with the casual game "Flitzer" on PC. "Flitzer" is the German term for streaking soccer/football fans. The game was developed by the German company Handy Games and released for mobile devices. The PC version will be released in/05/2006 simultaneously with the mobile version just in time for the World Cup, the biggest soccer event of the year.
In "Flitzer", the player takes control of a nude soccer/football fan, trying to navigate him through all the pitfalls of the stadium. Overzealous security personnel and resolute policemen are in his way, trying to bring the player's nudist fun to a stop. Various obstacles and special items also threaten to trip up the streaker. But if the player manages to perform daring stunts and combos, he will get rewarded with the high score – awarded by the roaring crowds.
=20
=20
=20
=20
=20
=20
=20
=20
=20
