January 13, 2006
Kudos to Canada
Steve Critchley, WCANR President, recently sent a list of questions to Nancy Love, who is the Yellowhead [Alberta] candidate for the current Federal election. The following is a sampling of their discussion:
Steve's Question: "In general, what are your views of nudists and naturism in Canada?"
Nancy's Answer: "As I gain a greater education of nudism, especially within Canada, I see how important it is to ensure that there is a safe and respectful attitude towards those who are practicing nudists.I believe in what WCANR stands for and how they hope to work with North American associations such as the American Association for Nude Recreation.to protect such places as Wreck beach and local clubs in Canada."
Nancy closed by stating, "I look forward to gaining greater insight on your organization and hearing about ways that I can be of assistance as a sitting Member of Parliament. I want to be able to represent your views and those of all Canadian nudists in Ottawa."
AANR Office Closed on Monday
The AANR office will be closed on Monday, January 16, for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Linda Berry, Director of Publications
The Bulletin
We're in the final proofing stage for the February issue. The files will go to the printer on January 18.
June 75th Anniversary Magazine
The response has been good since last week. I've had several calls from people who are sending in club histories and photos. Sally DePree sent an entire CD full of wonderful photos. Thanks, Sally!
Miscellaneous
The AANR NW Nudescene is at the printer. Two clubs have offered photos for the AANR Web site at no charge. We're waiting on the appropriate photo release form before using them.
Carolyn Hawkins, Public Relations Coordinator
Positive Publicity
Good News — Forbes.com ran a story on Top Topless Beaches http://www.forbes.com/2006/01/12/topless-beaches-resorts-cx_ sb_0113feat_ls_print.html
The American Assoc for Nude Recreation started off the story. There were also several quotes from other tourism industries.
We are still working with YPB&R on an article for Time magazine. They are focusing on females in 4 areas — seniors, generation X, baby boomers and youth. Nothing final has been done, but will keep you posted.
Another spin is Cosmopolitan focusing on the male nudist. Steve Vickers interviewed with them. This issue is scheduled for March 2006.
Club Brochures for Cruise
The cruise is just around the corner, and time is running out to get your club brochures to me. Thank you to the clubs who have already sent in their brochures for display on the cruise. You still have a little time, but if you are going to send them to me please do so as soon as possible to be sure I receive them in plenty of time. Please send them to AANR, 1703 North Main Street, Kissimmee, FL 34744, Attention – Carolyn
Consultant Training
We have closed the consultant training, and we are completing the process for the trainers. We will be contacting each person who has submitted applications or resumes with the results.
Room Reservations for 75th AANR Convention
Reminder — book your room reservations for AANR's 75th anniversary celebration. This will be one you will not want to miss. For information on rooms at DeAnza as well as local hotel information, call DeAnza at 619-766-4301, or 877-246-6833
Patricia Orner, Government Affairs Coordinator
Partners Outdoors
I arrived back in Orlando late yesterday from Partners Outdoors 2006 in majestic Phoenix, AZ. The American Recreation Coalition and seven federal agencies, all of which can have direct effects on recreational policy, sponsor this annual by-invitation-only meeting. Before the meeting got started on Saturday, I was treated to a tour of Shangri La Ranch. On Sunday morning, Beverly Price showed me a few areas of Phoenix that were not on the meeting agenda like the Heard Museum of Native Cultures and Art.
Keeping a "federal schedule" of 7:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m. all 126 partners worked really hard and accomplished a lot. Look for the rest of the story in the March edition of The Bulletin.
