AANR-NW GAT October HIGHTLIGHTS Submitted by: Shirley Gauthier-AANR-NW GAT Chair
October 19, 2005
After receiving several emails inquiring as to what the American Association for Nude Recreation-Northwest (AANR-NW) Government Affairs Team (GAT) does in the winter I was motivated to post to the enews. Sometimes volunteers need motivation. The AANR-NW GAT team includes every dues paying AANR-NW member as your much appreciated dues support the Government Affairs Team.

A HUGE thank you goes out to Restful Haven Health Club for once again sending a monthly donation to AANR-NW GAT fund. Restful Haven holds a 40-40-10-10- raffle every month and part of the proceeds goes to our AANR-NW GAT fund. I would also like to thank Restful Haven for officially adopting the AANR-NW GAT Chair with the honorary membership they so generously provided. This membership (which included her husband) allows her (me) to camp at Restful Haven when she is participating at events at Rooster Rock and Sauvie Island at no personal cost. She values this membership and the fact that it allows her the financial freedom to participate in more beach work and activities. Thank you Restful Haven for your continuing AANR-NW GAT support.

Thank you to artist Henry Yuen who has continued his AANR-NW GAT support by donating another water- color painting. We have come to name the watercolor fund raiser the Henry. Thank you Henry Yuen for your continued AANR-NW GAT support. Last year generous AANR-NW members contributed over $900 towards purchasing chances to win the Henry. Thank you AANR-NW members for your generous continued GAT support. The 2004 Henry now resides at Sun Meadow.

It is with a happy heart that I report a first ever! Fraternity Snoqualmie has requested that the Henry visit their resort. I am usually soliciting a home for the Henry so it was a real treat to have someone contact me that they wanted to host the Henry. The Henry traveled first class to get to Fraternity Snoqualmie via UPS at a costly tune. From Fraternity Snoqualmie the Henry will hitchhike to the SLUGS retreat in November. Providing transportation for Henry is greatly appreciated!

For those of you who are not aware of the Henry I include the following.
Check out the Henry by going to http://www.hevanet.com/hjlyuen/beach.htm and viewing lunch.

How do you purchase an opportunity win the Henry? Send your check made out to AANR-NW GAT. Each entry costs $5. No limit on the amount you can purchase. In the memo portion of your check put Henry. Drawing will be held at AANR-NW convention in July. Mail your check to: Terri Lawrence, Idaho State GAT Chair, 2940 W Ann St., Meridian, Idaho 83642. Questions? Email Terri at terrilaw@juno.com

In addition to the Henry fund raiser Terri Lawrence has sent out a request to all clubs/resorts to donate a beach towel with their club name and the word nudist on them. Towels are being used as a fund raiser. So far LARC, The Willamettans, Sun Club and The Bare Backers have donated a towel. How do you purchase an opportunity to win the towels? Simply send your check ($5 per entry) made out to AANR-NW GAT to Terri Lawrence, Idaho State GAT Chair, 2940 W Ann St., Meridian, Idaho 83642. Questions? Email Terri at terrilaw@juno.com. Why not make it simple? Send a $10 check and in the memo put one for the Henry and one for the towels!

If you would like a flyer to post on your club/resort bulletin board concerning the Henry email Terri and she can send you one to print out via email. Thank you Terri for your generous volunteer contributions.

3rd Annual AANR-NW GAT POLAR DIP! January 7th we meet at noon. Rooster Rock State Park at the East end parking area. The first year five brave nudists participated. The 2nd year 19 nudists did the dip plus some cheerleaders! Lets break a record this year. The original five dippers have participated two years in a row. Howard Willamson of the Seattle area SLUGS was the first nudist to email and commit that he would be participating. Mike Parker motivated the date being set so I anticipate he has committed. Please email Shirley Gauthier at sherbog@msn.com if you plan to attend, wish to car-pool from Eugene/Salem area, have questions or need more info. Rooster Rock State Park is located 23 miles east of Portland on I-84. Day pass fee at the park is $3. Plans are for us to gather as we did last year after the dip for lunch at a nearby location. Check out Rooster Rock State Park http://www.oregonstateparks.org/park_175.php

Washington State GAT Chair Steve Hubbard will be hosting the GAT presentation at AANR-NW convention held at Lake Bronson resort this year in July. Thank you Steve for your generous volunteer time in doing so. If you have not had the opportunity to share time with Steve when he is in GAT mode I encourage you to do so at AANR-NW convention. Steve truly puts the fun in politics. You can be assured your time will be well spent, informative and interactive. Thank you Steve for volunteer GAT contributions.

Thanks to Bill Bisbee who continues to monitor legislation in Montana. Being a state GAT chair where nudists have many miles of travel and expense in order to meet or organize events challenges Bill. Bill continues to be a watchful eye to anti-nudity legislation in Montana, which requires constant attention. Thank you Bill for your volunteer time and energy.

AANR GAT Chair Alonzo Stevens has been pro-active this year in communicating with regional GAT chairs. Alonzo along with Patricia Orner, AANR GAT Coordinator have hosted conference calls bi-monthly, which allow regional GAT chairs much needed communication. We are fortunate to have a national AANR GAT Chair volunteer that provides the sense of direction and goal setting we have lacked in the past. Dues paying AANR members like you make this possible. THANK YOU!

In concluding I want to thank every dues paying AANR member for making AANR the credible voice of reason. Dues paying members like you contribute to AANR successes, training, and advocating nudist rights. Thank you for making my work so much easier.

Shirley Gauthier
AANR-NW GAT Chair
