AANR Electronic Club Weekly Report July 22, 2005
16 Days to Fiesta Time

>From the desk of Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director – Execdir@aanr.com
AANR assisting NY clubs with fallout from incident involving Non AANR nudist club This week we received reports from New York and beyond about the arrest of the operator of a nudist park that is not affiliated with AANR on child pornography charges.
The detailed procedures that AANR employs in its chartering process and the fact that an AANR club was not involved in the situation make it less likely that we will be contacted by the media. Nevertheless, as we reviewed these reports about the Bare Bones club, we have consulted with our Public Relations team to develop talking points and strategy. In the event that your club is contacted about the subject, please notify Carolyn Hawkins, our public relations coordinator at Pubaffairs@aanr.com or call 1-800-TRY-NUDE so that we can assist with ensuring that accurate information is conveyed.
While we have not yet had any such inquiries, New York area clubs have been contacted by concerned members. Below is a response that we have been using to assist our clubs and members:
Dear ___________

I am Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director for the American Association for Nude Recreation, the Association to which _______________ club belongs. I am also a licensed Florida attorney. ______________ forwarded your message to me and I have asked them to forward this response along to you.
Let me begin by expressing my appreciation for your concern about, and the gravity of, the situation at Bare Bones club in New York. As you 05 know, Bare Bones is not affiliated with our Association in any way, and it bears no connection with _____________. Nevertheless, as your message indicated, media concerning a nearby nudist club could have implications for a club like yours. Obviously, a situation is more serious when it involves allegations of exploitation of children.
Dealing with serious issues — of whatever nature they 05 be — is something that the American Association for Nude Recreation is equipped for, with 75 years of experience providing the credible voice of reason for nude recreation in North America. It 05 be settling for you to know a few ways that our experience has prepared us to deal with the current situation:
First, AANR regularly works to educate law enforcement and legislators about wholesome, family-oriented nudism within our parks and resorts. In fact, we participate each year in several legislative conferences such as the National Conference of State Legislatures and the Council of State Governments, staffing booths where we distribute literature and answer questions. Our August 2005 issue of The Bulletin describes similar work on the federal level in Washington, D.C.
What this means is that we have made a point to establish relationships with, to answer questions for, and educate lawmakers and law enforcement before there is a problem. We're proud to note that a number of state legislatures specifically recognize our Association by name in statutes that exempt family nudism from adult entertainment laws, etc. The relationships we have established, coupled with the fact that Bare Bones is not an AANR affiliated club, are helpful.
Second, AANR dues support a dedicated team of public relations professionals and volunteers. These people are available to assist when situations arise to ensure that accurate messages are conveyed to the media as necessary to help avoid further conflagration.
Finally, the association employs a number of attorneys, lobbyists, and legal professionals including me who, in the extremely unlikely event that a club's sensitive information were sought by a third party, would respond. It is our practice to work cooperatively with law enforcement in particular situations where specific information would help protect our members, guests, and their children, or bring persons to justice. However, it would also be our practice to object to "cattle calls" for information about general membership or club membership.
I trust that this addresses your questions and I appreciate this opportunity to explain how AANR, as the credible voice of reason for nude recreation, serves our members, clubs, and guests.

Sincerely,

Erich E. Schuttauf, J.D.
Executive Director

New Content on AANR.com
The website has been updated with new media information for the press including AANR's 75th anniversary logo as well as other new images promoting nude recreation. In the news releases section of the newsroom you'll also find a press release about the upcoming convention.
Our clubs section has added the 75th anniversary logo to our clip art section under "logos."
We've added a two page recap of all the mainstream media attention that AANR and nude recreation have received in the past few months to the download zone.
In Just for Fun, the Kidz zone has all new puzzles, games, and trivia celebrating the Dog Days of Summer.

>From the desk of Pat Plumstead, Executive Assistant – Exoffice@aanr.com
Thank you AANR East for making me feel right at home while attending the regional convention at Sunny Rest Lodge, Palmerton, PA. and speaking of home, my home club, Sky Farm won for the largest increase in members for AANR East. I can't describe the pride that I felt when I heard the club's name being announced. Reminds me of a quote from JFK, "You're happiest while you're making the greatest contribution." I spoke with many of the clubs attending the convention; they all spoke with PRIDE about their sweat equity that helped build pools, pavilions, fences, and kitchens. Truly, their contributions in time and resources to our way of life will show the world who we are!
FIESTA TIME AT CALIENTE – 74TH AANR Convention -August 7-14, 2005
Please call Caliente at (800) 326-7731 and make your arrangements to attend "Fiesta Time at Caliente".
