AANR-NW Bags it up at Sauvie Island
Hidden Springs Nudist Club hosted a Sauvie Island (Collins Beach) cleanup June 25. Over thirty participants picked up litter at the clothing optional area of the beach. In addition the gravel road and parking areas that adjoin the clothing optional area received a lot of attention from the litter patrol.

Traveling the longest distance to the event were Bev Price and Will Johnson from the Arizona Wildflowers. Del Bale, Susan Bale and friends representing the Bare Backers from Idaho came in 2nd place for traveling the longest distance. Several participants were first time AANR-NW event attendees.

Mark Nebeker an Oregon Fish and Wildlife employee had mentioned he had a struggle getting volunteers to clean the gravel road and parking areas. We focused on those areas and with so many volunteers the work was completed in a very short period of time.

While Lee Kilbourn, Phil Owensby and Shirley Gauthier were cleaning this area Columbia County Sheriff Larry Weaver stopped by to chat. We can thank Sheriff Larry for offering us needed mosquito repellant. Larry was quick to point out that the litter problem was much less at the clothing optional areas than the areas used by those that wear clothing. When asked if he could be quoted he replied yes and you can also include that we have far less problems at the clothing optional areas.

Several beach users attracted by The American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) flag flying above the canopy on the beach came over to chat and visit. We were able to distribute brochures and share AANR information. One beach visitor grateful for the work AANR contributes towards advocating for nude beaches made a financial contribution.
The American Association for Nude Recreation-Northwest (AANR-NW) officially adopted the clothing optional beach through SOLVs Oregon Adopt-A-River program. SOLV supplied the plastic litter- bags, first-aid kits, biohazard containers, and reusable gloves. AANR-NW supplied the bottles of water. Hidden Springs nudist club hosted a potluck. Northwest nudists provided the volunteer time and energy. Restful Haven Health Club, AANR-NW, Hidden Springs, and The Willamettans Family Nudist Resort donated raffle prizes.

If you missed this event join AANR-NW, Volunteers In The Gorge and Oregon State Park employees August 6 at Rooster Rock State Park clothing optional beach August 6. We will gather at the AANR bench located at the entrance to the clothing optional area at 9 am. AANR-NW supplies the hotdogs, bottles of water while the Oregon State Park Department supplies the tools and oversees the work list.
