GAT Travels

By admin at 8:28 pm on June 28, 2005 | No comments

The Henry hits the road again.

The Henry travels to The American Association for Nude Recreation-Northwest (AANR-NW) convention July 1-4 its final destination. The Henry a watercolor donated by artist Henry Yuen has traveled over AANR-NW this past year raising money for AANR-NW Government Affairs Team.

Every $5 is one entry to win the Henry. The drawing will be at the AANR-NW General Assembly meeting Sunday, July 3. Tickets will be sold right up to the time the drawing takes place. It is a pleasure to report that $845 has been raised so far. Thanks to AANR-NW nudists and Henry Yuen for his generous donation. Could we possible reach a goal of $1000 before the drawing?

AANR-NW GAT Travels to Terwilliger Hot Springs

The American Association for Nude Recreation-Northwest GovernmentAffairs Team (AANR-NW GAT) hosts a trip to Cougar Hot Springs (Terwilliger Hot Springs) in celebration of National Nude Week July 6. We will leave from the lodge at the Willamettans Family Nudist Resort in Marcola, Oregon at 8 am. We will carpool/convoy to Terwilliger.

Chuck Shepard, President of Hoodoo Recreation Services plans to be at Terwilliger to meet and greet AANR members. Chuck has shared that he values AANR members and working with those that care about the hot springs. This is a great time to check out the springs and share time with other AANR members for a nice soak and social day.

Terwilliger Hot Springs is clothing optional and once past the entrance 50 feet you can enjoy the hike in nude. Remember the day pass is now $5 and a true value since an onsite attendee is within view of the parking area. Bringing exact change is helpful. Lets contribute to the continued success of Cougar Hot Springs by participating in this event. We can promote, protect, and preserve our nudist rights on public lands by using them.

Several clubs have started chapters of the Red Hat Society, a national, social organization for women. It is not primarily a nudist organization. There are now at least two nudist clubs in our region, LARC and the Willamettans, that have Red Hat chapters. There are other nudist club chapters in other parts of the country. The announcement by Astrid King indicates that there will be a Red Hat meeting at the AANR-NW convention at Restful Haven. You do not need to be a member in order to attend. AANR-NW Bags It Up At Sauvie Island

By admin at 7:10 am on | No comments

AANR-NW Bags it up at Sauvie Island
Hidden Springs Nudist Club hosted a Sauvie Island (Collins Beach) cleanup June 25. Over thirty participants picked up litter at the clothing optional area of the beach. In addition the gravel road and parking areas that adjoin the clothing optional area received a lot of attention from the litter patrol.

Traveling the longest distance to the event were Bev Price and Will Johnson from the Arizona Wildflowers. Del Bale, Susan Bale and friends representing the Bare Backers from Idaho came in 2nd place for traveling the longest distance. Several participants were first time AANR-NW event attendees.

Mark Nebeker an Oregon Fish and Wildlife employee had mentioned he had a struggle getting volunteers to clean the gravel road and parking areas. We focused on those areas and with so many volunteers the work was completed in a very short period of time.

While Lee Kilbourn, Phil Owensby and Shirley Gauthier were cleaning this area Columbia County Sheriff Larry Weaver stopped by to chat. We can thank Sheriff Larry for offering us needed mosquito repellant. Larry was quick to point out that the litter problem was much less at the clothing optional areas than the areas used by those that wear clothing. When asked if he could be quoted he replied yes and you can also include that we have far less problems at the clothing optional areas.

Several beach users attracted by The American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) flag flying above the canopy on the beach came over to chat and visit. We were able to distribute brochures and share AANR information. One beach visitor grateful for the work AANR contributes towards advocating for nude beaches made a financial contribution.
The American Association for Nude Recreation-Northwest (AANR-NW) officially adopted the clothing optional beach through SOLVs Oregon Adopt-A-River program. SOLV supplied the plastic litter- bags, first-aid kits, biohazard containers, and reusable gloves. AANR-NW supplied the bottles of water. Hidden Springs nudist club hosted a potluck. Northwest nudists provided the volunteer time and energy. Restful Haven Health Club, AANR-NW, Hidden Springs, and The Willamettans Family Nudist Resort donated raffle prizes.

If you missed this event join AANR-NW, Volunteers In The Gorge and Oregon State Park employees August 6 at Rooster Rock State Park clothing optional beach August 6. We will gather at the AANR bench located at the entrance to the clothing optional area at 9 am. AANR-NW supplies the hotdogs, bottles of water while the Oregon State Park Department supplies the tools and oversees the work list.

OR – Sauvie Island Cleanup 6/25

By admin at 11:30 pm on June 21, 2005 | No comments

SECOND ANNUAL SAUVIE ISLAND NUDE BEACH CLEANUP 10:30 am SATURDAY, JUNE 25TH
On Saturday, June 25th, the second AANR-NW sponsored beach clean-up at the Sauvie Island nude beach will be coordinated by Hidden Springs non-landed nudist club.
Plans are to gather at a location on the beach between the first two posted entrances to the clothing-optional beach at 10:30 a.m. There should be a canopy, signs and banners. We will also have the AANR flag and pole.
The beach clean-up will begin at 11:00 a.m. and last about an hour. The area between the closed tree area and the river from one end of the nude beach to the other end will be cleaned of litter. A request was also made that the parking area from the gravel to the trees also be cleaned up (this is a clothed area). Those wishing to volunteer to clean just this area only need not go onto the nude beach.
This year, we are able to leave the bags by the trail heads and they will be picked up later. We will again provide chilled bottles of water to those helping as well as disposable gloves and the plastic SOLV clean-up bags. We will also have some SOLV heavier work gloves that can be used and returned and the plastic SOLV disposal bags. In addition, there will be first aid kits and a red plastic box for hazardous material.
If you have a FRS portable radio or two, please bring them. We will set a frequency at registration in order to better coordinate the clean-up.
Those participating will get raffle tickets for a 1:00 p.m. raffle for various prizes including passes to nudist resorts, t-shirts, water bottles and other prizes.
Those wishing to be in a group photo must also gather by 1:00 p.m by the registration area. Only those who sign a photo release for publication in local, regional and national nudist publications will be photographed.
Immediately following the beach cleanup, Hidden Springs will host a potluck open to all. We will provide the water, plates, napkins and utensils. Bring a food item to share and leave it at registration for the potluck.
A parking pass is required for parking in the wildlife preserve. Parking passes for the wildlife area where the nude beach is located are now $3.50 per day or $11.00 for the entire year. They 05 be picked up at the Cracker Barrel Store to the north of the Sauvie Island bridge on the island.
Editor's note:
Your destination is Collins Beach, an official clothing optional beach on Sauvie Island on the Columbia River just north of Portland.
The beach is easily accessible from the parking lot. There are several entrance trails to the beach from the parking area, marked #1 – 6. The parking lot reportedly has several portable toilets.
One source of further information is Cheef Dan's page at http://www.cheef.com/mooncrow/or-si001.htm
pt
