AANR Electronic Club Weekly Report for April 15, 2005
>From the desk of Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director: Execdir@aanr.com
AANR Loses a Dear Friend,
This week brought some regrettable news to our office when we learned of the passing of a longtime friend of nude recreation and leader Evan Bell of Bell Acres in Georgia. Carolyn Hawkins of our office, who was close to Evan and his wife Polly, provides further information, including arrangements that have been made, below:
Evan Bell was very special to me. I have known Evan and Polly, his wife since my first joining AANR in 1990. It was always a pleasure to have them visit Kissimmee and share photos of the many trips they took. I will never forget the day I learned he was in the hospital with a heart condition and the continuing reports of his decline. Evan was a happy, jolly and very outgoing man and it was a pleasure to be in his company. He certainly liked to have fun and it was an honor to know him.
Services were held yesterday at the Methodist Church and a memorial fund has been set up.
Evan W. We're very excited to report that our number of registered members using the bulletin board services alone on AANR.com topped over 1,000 last week. And this week we made some exciting changes to your Association's website at http://www.aanr.com <http://www.aanr.com/> .
- First, as you visit (or if you hit the "reload" button a time or two) you'll see all-new images incorporated into the main page, as well as our Member Services and From a Woman's Perspective pages. - You'll also find a new edition of the Cyber Bulletin; - There's even more club clip art from the pen of Bulletin cartoonist Ron Warne in the club services area (your club can get your user name and password by e-mailing Pat Plumstead at Exoffice@aanr.com - Within our Government Affairs area, we have a colorful, user-friendly update about AANR / AANR East's narrow attempt to get official recognition from the Maryland state legislature. Special thanks to Trustee Sharon McLeod for her help in creating the eye-pleasing format we've used.
Not only is it more blessed to give than receive – it is also deductible.

>From the desk of Pat Plumstead, Executive Assistant: ExOffice@aanr.com <mailto:ExOffice@aanr.com:>
The AANR office wished to welcome Terri Justice ( Extension 222), who joins us as a receptionist. Terri hails from Scotland, so an old Scottish saying "A fool can earn money, but it takes a wise man to keep it", is appropriate for April 15th. Kim Lowery has joined our Membership Group. You can contact her at Extension 234. Kim is from the volunteer state of Tennessee. Volunteers are a large part of what makes AANR what it is today. Observe National Volunteer Week – April 17-23 and Let your volunteers know they are special people!
Money talks all right. Usually it says, "GOOD-BYE."
Convention Awards Time Is Just Around The Corner
The AANR Convention is less than four months away. The deadline for submission to the AANR office / Pat Plumstead of documentation and materials for all awards is 05 31, 2005, unless noted in our Procedure Manual. The exceptions are the Hall of Fame Award nominations deadline of 05 1, 2005 and the Schofield Trophy Award, given to the non-landed club that accumulates and documents the most mileage or visits to landed clubs with a deadline of June 10, 2005.
HIGHLIGHTED AWARD – Hal O'Neill was an accountant from San Bernardino, California and a member of Olive Dell, so today it's appropriate that we feature the award that bears his name. Hal O'Neil worked behind the scenes like many of our AANR volunteers. He elevated the level of financial accountability at the AANR office in the late 1960's.
The Hal O'Neil Outstanding Public Relations Award is awarded to a club that joins in a community effort which results in the improvement of the club's image as well as the image of nudism in general.
Set aside July 22-25 to attend a special seminar hosted by Turtle Lake, Union City Michigan on "So – You want to own a nudist club". Phyllis & Patrick Gaffney of Avalon will be coordinating this informative course. The fee includes lodging, seminar and meals. Please contact Turtle Lake for details & reservations – 517-741-7919.
Remember, "Management is about arranging and telling. LEADERSHIP is about nurturing and enhancing." – Tom Peters Enhance Your Website – Spell It Out! This past week, one of the members told me that he had included many of the suggestions from our initial e-mail, such as spelling out American Association for Nude Recreation on his home page and using the words nude and nudist. Previously when he entered "nudist, his city & state" in a search engine, his club did not appear. After making the changes – his club appeared 7th! FANR Scholarship applicants are being asked to prepare a 750 word essay on "How Nude Recreation Helps Prepare Young Adults for Life."
KIDS – KIDS – KIDS Please donate nudist items from your club or region for the AANR Youth Leadership Camps. Our lobbyist Bob Levy is in Tallahassee daily keeping us informed as amendments and committee assignments bring up bills we are tracking such as FL HB 611 and companion SB 722 which both affect public library access potentially to our web sites.
Tampa Area Naturists Efforts to lobby for a nude beach area along the Tampa, FL shoreline are progressing. We wish to thank Lake Como for providing our meeting location with TAN, FANR & AANR on Sunday, April 10th. Working together maximizes our efforts.
Great Outdoors Month 2005 I have not received word from any clubs that a beach clean up will be possible as we develop plans for this national week of recognition for recreation of beaches in late June. Please chat this up and let me know if your club can help us get some well earned good press. Other recreation activities can also be highlighted this June – so if volleyball or nude river rafting works better for your members – give me a call.
THE + IRS = THEIR$
I couldn't be out of money.
