Edited by Mel Kanner AANR Trustee ———————————————————— ———————————————— AANR Electronic Trustee Weekly Report for/01/28, 2005
From the desk of Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director: Execdir@aanr.com
Today is a GOOD NEWS day – For more reasons than one! I encourage you to read this edition of the Weekly Report from top to bottom because many entries represent extremely good things for AANR and our clubs. They also epitomize a continuing fulfillment of AANR's mission to Promote, Enhance, and Protect nude recreation. Read on:
First Step to Victory in Virginia (Protection at its finest) – Many of you have been following with great interest the recent developments surrounding House Bill 2806 by Delegate Carrico. As you 05 know, the bill would ban youth under the age of 18 from attending nudist parks in the state. AANR and AANR East had secured the services of a top-notch lobbyist to help defeat the bill.
Yesterday a major step was taken towards stopping HB 2806 during a subcommittee hearing where the bill was considered. After taking only brief testimony, the subcommittee UNANIMOUSLY voted to recommend tabling the measure. (The bill will go to full committee for consideration next week where it is expected to accept the recommendation and table 2806.)
According to White Tail Park owner Bob Roche who attended yesterday's proceedings—it was a relatively quiet affair and we hope to keep things that way to avoid undue attention to the bill which would make lawmakers' actions more public—your lobbyist deserves incredible praise for what happened.
HOW YOU CAN HELP – PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT LAWMAKERS, PRESS, ETC about this bill at this time. Keeping this measure quiet and out of the limelight is crucial to obtaining final success. We will apprise you immediately if there is a change in strategy that requires member assistance.
In the meantime, please accept our thanks for your support of the Association and your region. It is only through this support that the high quality of representation that we have secured is possible.
ALL NEW AANR.com website goes live! (Enhancement and Promotion right here!) On Wednesday evening our all-new version of the www.aanr.com <http://www.aanr.com/> website went live. We are very pleased to report that this launch coincides with a cover story about the new site that appears in the February issue of The Bulletin. That issue will begin hitting members' mailboxes as early as today.
On the all-new site there are a number of helpful features and services, including an online press room to serve journalists, a member services area with bulletin boards, downloadable excerpts from AANR's North American Guide to Nude Recreation, a "law library" and much more. Members can register by simply using their last name and "P Number" as shown on your membership card.
Club Services also have their own area on the new website. To access this area, simply enter the username aanrclubs and the password azwz6 . Within club services, you'll find clip art, access to our ruling documents, plus AANR's PowerPoint presentation on Taking Control of Video Voyeurism. We plan to bring you even more club services in the future.
Members are already logging on and signing up for services. We have had several membership renewals and product orders from our revised online store. We're also encouraging members to update their records with us, and to provide e-mail, phone, and other contact information that makes them easier to reach. In return, for a limited time we'll be giving away free "screen squeegees" and other goodies to those who respond.
AANR and AANR West at work in Quartzite Arizona. (Promotion, Promotion) Each year thousands of RVers head south to spend at least part of their winter "wilderness camping" on Bureau of Land Management space near Quarzite, Arizona. A huge trade show / fest / flea market has built up around this annual migration — and AANR / AANR West are part of it all!
According to Helen Landman of DeAnza springs who helped organize our presence there (including about a dozen volunteers including AANR President Pat Brown and her husband Darrel, plus John and BJ Kinman, President and First Lady of AANR West), their booth has given away over 5,000 emery boards bearing contact information, and thousands of visitors have collected literature about us. This includes our list of AANR clubs.
Because Quartzite draws travelers from all over the country and Canada, when those travelers return to where they live most of the year, a number will undoubtedly consider visiting an AANR park closer to home. So we all extend a great big THANK YOU to these volunteers for helping to promote nude recreation in this way
———————————————————— ————————————————
From the desk of Pat Plumstead, Executive Assistant: ExOffice@aanr.com <mailto:ExOffice@aanr.com:>
MEMDACS – "Membership Data Access System" – Mel Kanner has been updating the look and feel of this program. The beta testing is being done by a group of dedicated individuals. We are addressing the issues this group has brought to our attention! So get your mouse ready .it's coming soon.
Paradise Lakes Resort, in sunny, warm, tropical Florida is ready to welcome the attendees of the 2005 Winter Board Meeting to be held 02 17, 18 & 19.
Calling All Committee Chairs – Please send your reports to the AANR office in preparation for the February meeting. Your thoughts and ideas are very important and we are here to help with any procedures or research. We will assist you with the preparation of your action plan, to include for example, your primary objectives, actions taken, successes and pending issues. The deadline for the reports is February 7th If you have any questions, please contact me.
Has your club hosted a Chamber of Commerce or civic group function? We're considering an article about the value of such outreach efforts. Please let us know about your experience with an email to me at Exoffice@aanr.com. Thanks to the many clubs who have already e-mailed information about their experience with a Chamber of Commerce.
———————————————————— ————————————————
From the desk of Linda Berry, Director of Publications: Editor@aanr.com
The Bulletin The March issue is in production.
North American Guide The book has been printed, and the CD-Rom color version of the Guide has been completed by Angie, our graphic artist. The hyperlinks have been checked, rechecked, and checked again on all types of computers. The final check will be done this weekend and on Monday. We expect the master CD-Rom to be sent to Disk Makers on Tuesday of next week. The finished product should be in our hands by end of February/first of March.
Miscellaneous The four-color youth brochure shell has been approved and will go to the printer today. Next week we will have the insert panel that will have the locations, dates, and prices.
Vista Grande, Pine Tree, and The Naturals Club brochures have been sent to the printer. It is not uncommon for a story to run on such a website and then have journalists from other media outlets expand or follow up on the idea in their columns or broadcasts. These websites can spawn additional publicity that might not have originally taken place."
Just an early reminder that Nude Recreation Week will be celebrated July 4 – 10, 2005. As always I will be looking for any activities you plan during that time. We will be sending a press release to local media in your area so the earlier you plan your activities, the better it will be.
The Bare Necessities All Saints Tour nude cruise on board Carnival's Legend is set to sail. AANR will be on board the Legend to promote your club with your brochure at our booth. Many thanks to the many clubs who have already sent brochures for the cruise. Thanks also to those who have said they would bring the brochures and the offer to help.
There will be 2,150 nudists on the ship when it leaves Ft Lauderdale on February 7th for St Thomas, St Martin and St Lucia. This is the largest ship Bare Necessities has ever offered. Many of the passengers will be first-time nudists and when they return home on 02 15 they will be looking for a club or resort near their home to continue their enjoyment of the freedom and relaxing experience they enjoyed.
We wish also to thank Bare Necessities who has donated cabins which has raised thousands of dollars for the government affairs program.
Check this shortcut to the Forbes site for the article as Forbes.com plugs AANR and growth of Nude Recreation.
http://www.forbes.com/travel/2005/01/13/cx_cv_0113feat.html
———————————————————— ————————————————
From the desk of Patricia Orner, Government Affairs Assistant: Govtaffairs@aanr.com
Registration will close soon for the GAT Training/02/20-21 at Paradise Lakes as seating is getting close to full. Rooster Rock Polar Dip article

By admin at 8:32 am on | No comments
2nd Annual AANR Rooster Rock Polar Dip Breaks Record
Submitted by: Shirley Gauthier-AANR-NW GAT Chair
It was not the 47.5-degree weather at Rooster Rock State Park nude beach January 29 that broke the record it was the twenty-two nudists and the Restful Haven Mascot that participated. Last year 5 nudists showed up and all five did the Polar Dip. This year twenty-two nudists showed up and thirteen braved the cold water and participated. All five participants of last years dip participated January 29 at the 2nd annual dip. Those that showed up and did not wish to brave the water were quickly handed cameras.
The group met at the East parking area at 9 am and hiked about 2 miles (I am guessing) to an area safe for dipping. After taking a group before photo we, ran in the water and regrouped on the bank for additional pictures. Not to be outdone a small group took a second plunge and swim. Taking the challenge the women decided to take a second dip! Yes I did say women. Two women participated this year breaking last year's record of one.
We met 4-5 people on the trail hike back and I am sure they were wondering what a large group was doing so far from the parking area on a Saturday in January. Two naked men carrying an AANR flag leading 19 laughing and fun loving Polar Dippers must be a memory one won't forget of Rooster Rock.
Thanks to Craig George of Volunteers in the Gorge who suggested Cascade Deli in the Columbia Gorge Outlet Mall for a warm place to gather for lunch afterwards. Meeting as a group for lunch was the dessert on a great day. Cascade Deli, a short drive from Rooster Rock State Park (exit #17), has a large open area room with plenty of tables, great service and good food. You might want to stop at the Deli for a packed lunch on future visits to Rooster Rock.
A heads up! Next year we will be doing a "Rooster Rock Dip for Dollars." Recently while attending a SLUGS (Sun Lovers Under Gray Sky) Travel Club retreat at Lake Bronson it came to my attention by Kathy that some Dippers need to be motivated. Immediately my mind went into overdrive. I realized that people who live a distance away, think dipping in cold water is not their cup of tea or those that have other plans would want to support this Rooster Rock event by pledging dollars to those "brave" enough to participate. Stay tuned on AANR-NW enews for details. All "Dip for Dollars" monies collected will support AANR-NW Government Affairs Team (GAT) events at Rooster Rock.
See you all at Rooster Rock for/05/21 for the "Down by the Riverside" event where we will once again be in partnership with Volunteers in the Gorge and SOLV. Save August 6 on your calendars for the 3rd annual "Rooster Rock Beach Party" more commonly known as a work party. Stayed tuned to AANR-NW enews for updates.

AANR Weekly Report for/01/21, 2005

Edited by Mel Kanner AANR Trustee ———————————————————— ————————————-
AANR Weekly Report for/01/21, 2005

From the desk of Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director: Execdir@aanr.com
VIRGINIA YOUTH BILL
On Wednesday, we wrote to you and our clubs about a new bill pending in the Virginia legislature that could ban the presence of juveniles at any nudist park or camp. The following confidential report was prepared with substantial assistance from Bob Roche, AANR East President, and includes information about the lobbyist who has been retained to work on AANR and AANR East's behalf.
A message with more generic information will be distributed to our clubs and on the AANR Government Affairs Yahoo newsgroup
UPDATE HB 2806
PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT DELEGATES AT THIS TIME
We have contracted with Alexander Macaulay of Macaulay & Burtch, PC to lobby at the state capitol in Richmond against HB 2806. Information about Mr. Macaulay and his firm can be found on the Internet at: http://www.macbur.com <http://www.macbur.com/> <http://www.macbur.com/ <http://www.macbur.com/> >
HB 2806 seriously impacts on your rights to engage in nude recreation in Virginia. The bill prohibits the licensing of hotels, campgrounds and summer camps attended by "openly nude juveniles" regardless if the child's parents are present or not.
Mr. Macaulay is now investigating HB 2806 and discussing the bill with members of the House Committee on General Laws.
While Mr. Macaulay is engaged in this initial process, he's requested that you not contact Virginia lawmakers or the media. Publicity generated by such contacts could hinder efforts to "kill" the bill without it ever going to vote.
In the early stages of fighting adverse legislation, massive letter writing campaigns, packing hearing rooms, and extensive media coverage can cause more harm than good, making success much less likely.
AANR and AANR-East are providing the funding for this fight against HB 2806. If not already a member, we strongly encourage you to join AANR. AANR and AANR-East are strong proponents and defenders of your and your family's right to participate in social nude recreation. Recent development from Virginia General Assembly

By admin at 7:45 am on January 20, 2005 | No comments

Subject: Recent development from Virginia General Assembly

Dear AANR Members, Club Owners and friends:
Yesterday, Delegate Carrico of the Virginia General Assembly introduced HB 2806, further restricting nude recreation for all juveniles in Virginia. This message is to provide you with a summary of the bill and to let you know what we are doing about it.
Last year you 05 remember that Representative Jack Reid introduced and passed HB 158. That bill prohibited issuing a license to any hotel, campground or summer camp conducting a "nudist camp for juveniles." A "nudist camp for juveniles" was defined as a hotel, campground or summer attended by openly nude juveniles without their parents also being present.
When HB 158 was considered on the house floor, Representative Carrico was the lone NO vote. Carrico later explained that he didn't feel HB 158 went far enough. Now Carrico's bill would delete the current law's limitation to cases where youths are present without their parents.
Thus, it broadens the definition of nudist camp for juveniles to include all hotels, campgrounds and summer camps with openly nude juveniles, regardless of whether the juvenile's parent or legal guardian is also registered and present or not. The bill effectively bans minors from being present at nudist resorts in Virginia.
AANR and AANR East, along with AANR East legal counsel, are currently lining up a lobbyist and conducting research to assess the bill prospects and plan our defense. We ask you do take no action at this time but to be ready to do so when it is appropriate.
HB 2806 05 be unwelcome news, but it does prove a point that we have long been making. That is, that there are members of the Virginia Legislature that are unconcerned with tramping on the rights of parents to make decisions for their families. Now the freedom they wish to take away is our right to bring our family with us when traveling to AANR parks in the state.
We appreciate all you do to help us protect nude recreation in North America.
Bob Roche
AANR East President
Erich Schuttauf Executive Director

AANR Weekly Report for 01 14, 2005

By admin at 3:46 pm on | No comments

Edited by Mel Kanner AANR Trustee ———————————————————— ———————————
AANR Weekly Report for 01 14, 2005=20=20=20
From the desk of Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director: Execdir@aanr.com I am pleased to be traveling to White Tail Park today to join the AANR East team for their winter board meeting.=A0 There is a lot to talk in that region, about AANR / AANR East's progress in working for a nude beach on Assateague. =A0 This week the results of a poll of Maryland voters conducted by the same polling company using the same methodology as last year shows that we have gained another 2% support statewide for a beach there, and now have a MAJORITY who favor a beach!=A0 A=A0press release touting the new numbers has gone out, which should spur some great press. (See Below) =A0 GREAT PRESS FROM FORBES Speaking of GREAT press, FORBES.com – the website for the highly respected business magazine, has just released an article on the popularity of topless beaches, which cites the American Association for Nude Recreation as a source on the growing trend!=A0 For more information, click here:=20
http://www.forbes.com/travel/2005/01/13/cx_cv_0113feat.html
This marks the second time in recent years that we have been cited and nude recreation has received good exposure from Forbes.=A0 Stories like this will not only spread awareness, they help new clubs get financing, and can help us defend nudism when communities claim "public nudity" causes adverse effects.=A0
We had a recent reminder this week that this still occurs when Melbourne, Florida proposed an anti-nudity ordinance.=A0 While AANR / FANR couldn't stop that ordinance, the team was there and succeeded in getting some favorable information in the record and the city's expert's agreement on some critical issues with respect to future nude clubs and areas.=A0 For more information, please see Pat Orner's report below. =A0 AANR Kicks Off Marketing / Branding research project.=A0 This week we held our first meeting with the branding team at YPB&R to discuss the (rapid!) process that the project will take.=A0 We delivered several large bags of background materials for the branding team's review including copies of our strategic plan, all the marketing materials we use, and the results of AANR membership surveys.=A0 We are eager to get started! The capable team at YPB&R was selected for the project based upon their proposal, expertise, and prompt follow-up to questions posed to them.=A0=20=20 We will keep you apprised of developments in the research project as they unfold. =A0 Maryland Poll – the following press release was sent out by YPB&R. It also appears on our Cyber Bulletin.
Contact: Carolyn Hawkins Mason Moore/Mary Jane Kolassa AANR YPB&R Public Relations 800/879-6833 407/875-1111
SUPPORT FOR NUDE SUNBATHING UP IN MARYLAND Nude sunbathing is preferred over gambling by Marylanders.
KISSIMMEE, FL (Jan. 14, 2005) — According to a recent poll conducted for the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR), by Gonzales Research & Marketing Strategies =93Maryland=92s leader in public opinion polling,=94 permission to grant nude sunbathers a designated area of Assateague Island beach, if sufficient signage was posted, was favored by 50% of respondents, an increase of 2% over last year=92s results. Details of the poll can be viewed at AANR=92s website: www.aanr.com.
The freedom to enjoy Assateague =93au naturel=94 seems to be slightly more popular a pastime among Marylanders than gambling, whose support for allowing slots in Maryland dipped to 49% in favor, 45% opposed, and 6% with no opinion=85a slip from 55% favoring slots in 2004.=20
=93Apparently, Marylanders would prefer to lose more than just their shirts,=94 quipped AANR lobbyist, Don Murphy.
=93Enjoyment of Assateague — as the early indigenous peoples did, unencumbered by clothes — is a freedom the legislature should ensure for Marylanders and its beach visitors when the issue comes up during the current session,=94 said Carolyn Hawkins, PR Coordinator for AANR.
The poll surveyed 804 registered voters in Maryland who vote regularly and were interviewed by telephone.=A0 A cross section of interviews was conducted in each jurisdiction within the state to reflect general election voting patterns. In particular, approval in Baltimore City/suburbs increased from an average 39% in 2004 to nearly 50% in 2005.
The American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) has nearly 50,000 members nationwide and is working to find a management or legislative solution to formalize the practice of nude sunbathing that has been an informal practice for years along certain empty stretches of Assateague Island.=A0 Membership in this organization is a passport to fun and can be purchased for less than the price of a bathing suit.=A0 For more information, call AANR at (800) TRY-NUDE, or visit them on the web at www.aanr.com
———————————————————— ———————————
From the desk of Pat Plumstead, Executive Assistant: ExOffice@aanr.com
The AANR Office will be closed on Monday, January 17, 2005 in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
