AANR Influencing Asia?

By admin at 10:00 pm on August 28, 2004 | No comments

AANR Electronic Club Weekly Report for August 27, 2004
From the desk of Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director
Try-nude@aanr.com

FRPA

On Monday, August 30, AANR / FANR will be attending the Florida Recreation and Park Assoc trade show, FRPA. Of special interest, we will be conducting a tour of several Pasco County area nudist resorts. Each passenger will receive a goodie bag with AANR and Club brochures highlighting what we offer in Florida. Trustee Bob Erlenmeyer and Steve Vickers of the AANR office will be joining me as we host the trip.

AANR Influencing ASIA

You may recall that some months ago, AANR was mentioned in an online version of Time Magazine in Asia. The story covered the growing popularity of clothing-optional recreation, with some hints that China should consider getting in on the act. More recently, on August 20, 2004, AANR was again recognized as the authority on nude recreation in a piece published by www.chinadaily.com .

In the China Daily article, a Singapore businessman referenced our statistics (and news about our 73rd convention at Glen Eden) in support of his argument that more venues should be made clothing optional. At one point, he went so far as to write that having a nudist destination in Singapore might “position Singapore as the truly Asian holiday destination coming into its own…It might even be enough to entice the AANR to hold its 74th international convention in Singapore!”

We’ll try to think of a way to break the news to the writer about our upcoming convention at Caliente. In the meantime, why not check out the article?

From the desk of Pat Plumstead, Executive Assistant: ExOffice@aanr.com

Thank you Glen Eden for making this year’s convention a success! 1258 people registered for this awesome event. The teamwork and spirit at the club made a difference. Chairs Jeannette, Cook and Cheryl made our trip cruising down Route 66 a memorable convention.

Back on the home front, the Kissimmee area continues to make its way back from a devastating hurricane. We wish to thank Cherie Alexander for helping us alert the nudist community.

Kudos to Bev Price for completing the Bylaws and Procedure manual changes well in advance of our deadline.

Thank you to the regions who responded to the request for officer/trustee/committee information to be included in the Sept update of the Directory. Please forward any changes to my attention.

I will be in North Carolina from 8/29-9/4. Trying to stay away from Hurricane Frances!

From the desk of Linda Berry, Director of Publications:Editor@aanr.com

The Bulletin Work was back to normal this week (thank goodness!) We appreciate everyone’s concern. The cleanup will go on for some time to come because of all the trees that have fallen.

On Monday of last week, Angie, Martha and I worked from my home to get the September issue files ready for the printer. (I was the only one who had power!) Our printer, The Ledger, was extremely helpful…even offered to come to Kissimmee to pick up the files. Because of the volume of traffic, we sent it overnight to them and they held press time for us. We were fortunate to stay on schedule despite everything! We appreciate everyone’s help.

The October issue is in production. It will feature the AANR East, AANR West, MSA, WCANR, and AANR Conventions.

The Cyber-Bulletin Lynn has put the new edition of The Cyber-Bulletin online. Check it out and see what China has to say about AANR.

From the desk of Carolyn Hawkins, Public Relations Coordinator: Clubinfo@aanr.com

If your club is having a 5K run this year, or any other large activity, we would love to hear from you. Give us the dates of the event and what you are doing. This will be part of a pitch story.

Thanks to all of our members who continue to faithfully watch for newspaper and magazine articles. I really appreciate your attention in getting these to the AANR.

A dream is in the mind of the believer, and in the hands of the doer. You are not given a dream, without being given the power to make it come true. Anonymous

Clearly reference AANR, your name, and issue in the subject line.
For updates see http://www.aanr.com or watch the AANR-NW-eNews.
{back to our regularly scheduled message … }
August 14, 2004
Dear concerned friends in the nudist community,
We deeply appreciate your concerns, thoughts, and prayers as the American Association for Nude Recreation and a number of our Florida clubs dig out in the aftermath of Hurricane Charley.
Storm broke land Friday morning
As you 05 have read from news accounts, Hurricane Charley broke land in the Port Charlotte / Punta Gorda, Florida area on Friday morning. Port Charlotte is on the south west side of the state and faces the Gulf of Mexico. After breaking land, the storm then traveled in a north-easterly diagonal path. In fact, the eye of this storm crossed directly over Kissimmee and Orlando before exiting to the east in the Daytona Beach vicinity.
We have prepared this information to let you know about the status of the situation from the best sources we have, including weather stations, personal phone calls, and messages. If the status of your club does not appear in this message, it is because we do not yet have much information available.
Clubs, AANR Headquarters Impacted
Fort Myers Home of Sunsations Travel club. Fort Myers is on the South West coast of the state about 20 miles below where the storm hit. Our good friends who lead the Sunsations club report that they have personally had some moderate damage to their home. No persons suffered bodily injury to our knowledge.
Tampa and Saint Petersburg Home of Caliente, Gulf Coast, Lake Como Club, Lake Linda Circle, The Island Group, Oasis, and Paradise Lakes. Fortunately, the Tampa / St. Pete area was spared from many effects of the storm due to the path it took.
Kissimmee Home of Cypress Cove and the AANR Headquarters. A number of homes in The Cove suffered damage ranging from modest harm to outright destruction. Much of the destruction was caused by trees, which are down throughout the property. The Cove is currently without power and water and is expected to remain so for several days. However, management notes that much of the basic infrastructure and club grounds remain intact. They are optimistic that the club will be back running fully — albeit with some changes from what you've known — within a couple weeks.
AANR Office Closed until electrical power is returned. Our headquarters in Kissimmee does not have basic utilities and is closed for the present time. We have arranged contingency plans to serve you during this interim period.
To the best of our knowledge, no one in the AANR community has suffered serious bodily harm.
Where to turn for information We will be periodically posting new information about the status of our Florida clubs and our headquarters on the main page of our website, http://www.aanr.com . We invite you to check in regularly for the latest news.
Suggestions for contacting AANR Currently we are without telephone service in the AANR office. However, our members, clubs, regions, and friends are extremely important to us. We want you to know how you can contact us should you have an emergency:
Regarding very routine business, updates, and simple FYI messages We suggest that you not send for the next two weeks.
Important business: Please contact us using exoffice@aanr.com as your e-mail address. We are able to check this e-mail from remote locations. We do ask for your patience as it 05 take more time than usual for us to respond. Please clearly reference AANR and indicate your name plus the nature of your message in the subject line of your e-mail.
Extremely urgent messages 05 be directed to urgentaanr@yahoo.com .
We respectfully ask that you reserve this address for critical, brief messages without attachments as the account has more limited server space. If you will kindly leave contact information, we will respond to you as soon as possible. Again, please help us serve you more quickly by referencing AANR, your name, and issue in the subject line.
On behalf of the entire AANR staff and our Florida community, we thank you for your concerns, thoughts, and prayers. We are grateful and feel deeply blessed that, as of yet and to the best of our knowledge, no one in the AANR family has suffered serious bodily harm.
Sun-cerely, Erich E. Schuttauf, J.D.
