Edited by Mel Kanner AANR Trustee ——————————————————
AANR Weekly Report for/02/25, 2005
From the desk of Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director: Execdir@aanr.com
I enjoyed seeing many of you last week during the AANR midwinter meeting of the Board of Trustees. Please accept my deepest thanks to the staff at Paradise Lakes, the many volunteers of this Association, and to those of you on my staff who made it such a success.
Incredible Government Affairs Training session held at the AANR Board Meeting. There is a dedicated team of AANR and AANR Regional volunteers who stand at the ready to help organize, testify, and do what it takes to protect nude recreation in North America — including your clubs and backyards? Last weekend, these volunteers received intensive two-day training from some of the top lobbyists, attorneys, and even state lawmakers from around the country. As a licensed attorney, I can tell you that to get this caliber of training at a Continuing Education seminar or professional association meeting would cost several hundred dollars. Now, about 40 volunteers have that training. This is just one more way that AANR and its regions are working to protect nude recreation. I want to especially thank your Government Affairs Chair Alonzo Stevens, his wife Debra, and Pat Orner of the AANR office for their considerable help.
Additional details about the program—and thank you to all our speakers and attendees— will appear in future issue of The Bulletin.
CAN YOU HELP US? Has your non-landed club ever held a nudist event in a facility that also happened to have a liquor license? If so, you 05 be able to help us out with a situation that we're gathering research on right now. If you have an example that you would be comfortable sharing with us, please e-mail Pat Orner at govtaffairs@aanr.com. Your experience 05 help us to help others.
Updates to AANR.com website. We appreciate the accolades and constructive comments you've made to us about the all-new aanr.com website. See link below. http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/northcounty/20050225-9999 -1mi25nude.html
According to our PR Firm, YPB&R, "Receiving editorial coverage in highly-read mainstream websites such as Forbes.com and MSNBC.com has added value in that many journalists from other media outlets regularly scan these sites in search of story ideas. It is not uncommon for a story to run on such a website and then have journalists from other media outlets expand or follow up on the idea in their columns or broadcasts. These websites can spawn additional publicity that might not have originally taken place."
Just an early reminder that Nude Recreation Week will be celebrated July 4 – 10, 2005. As always I will be looking for any activities you plan during that time. We will be sending a press release to local media in your area so the earlier you plan your activities, the better it will be. Please order your Nude Recreation Week buttons early. You can call me at the AANR office or email me at www.clubinfo.com
The press release describing AANR's new web redesign and the resources now available to the press, the public, and AANR members, was released on February 10 to approximately 400 journalists from local, regional and national media outlets. Follow up pitch calls were made by YPB&R, and such well-known publications as the Washington Post and Miami Herald, along with several smaller publications mentioned the new site. Since this is an evergreen story, we anticipate further use of the press release.
Those of our clubs with regular press contacts 05 want to send them this release or include this information in a release of your own, in order to obtain maximum benefit from the newly redesigned and very professional website. To receive the release, please visit our web site at www.aanr.com press room.
——————————————————
From the desk of Patricia Orner, Government Affairs Assistant: Govtaffairs@aanr.com
The GAT Training/02/20-21 at Paradise was a huge success. Under the leadership of "Chief" Alonzo Stevens the training was an interactive environment where speakers and attendees exchanged the "WHO-WHAT-WHERE-WHEN-HOW'S AND HOW NOT'S" of successful government affairs. Shirley Gauthier arrived without her luggage for day one – she opened as a "virtual reality Sun Flower" and with the help of a friend during the morning sun break – returned in a sunny outfit. After a super lunch in the sun – the excitement continued to build. Jimmy Corsentino showed the roots of government and how a bill becomes a law. Don Murphy gave us a look at how he became a member of the Maryland House of Delegates and how that helps him as a lobbyist. Bob Levy could not stay all day as he prepares for the opening of the Florida Legislative Session – but was able through role play with Shirley – to show us what to expect when we go lobbying. We ended day one with a frank discussion with MO Rep. Curt Dougherty on approaching a legislator (Don Murphy acted as the truth meter). The buzz at the networking hour reinforced the positive atmosphere and the learning going on. Stay tuned next week for day two report and what we see for the future of GAT training.
TEXAS CLUBS: Please stand ready for the possibility that we will need members to fill the gallery in Austin in early March. Get your email lists updated and we will let you know if we need to send an alert and appeal for your troops to be there to be seen. NO ACTION AT THIS TIME

Let no feeling of discouragement prey upon you, And in the end you are sure to succeed. Abraham Lincoln
