Leave No Trace
As many of you know, Squaw Mountain Ranch is a nudist park located east of Portland. Last year, they closed the park for a week in May to rent the park to a film production company. Note that this was not a nudism related film, but rather the park was rented because the film needed a location that was a large wooded site with an old logging park with trailers and cabins. That film, “Leave No Trace”, is coming out soon. About a third of the film was from the filming at Squaw Mountain, and some of the park members were used as extras in a party scene. The park also got a credit under Special Thanks. The film was shown at Sundance Film Festival in January, at Cannes last week, at about 15 other film festivals, and is being shown next week at the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF). It also goes on limited release on June 29, but we don’t know where it may play then. We saw the film this week at SIFF and recommend it.
Again, this is NOT a nudist film. Still, it may be fun to see the park and some of the members in a major picture. In the film, a PTSD sufferer and his thirteen year old daughter have lived off the grid in a vast urban park in Portland, Oregon, until a small mistake causes them to be discovered and changes everything for them. This same director and writers previously made Winter’s Bone, which earned 4 major Academy Award nominations, and was Jennifer Lawrence’s first big leading role.
The SIFF schedule for “Leave No Trace” is:
Friday, June 1, 2018, 6:30PM at SIFF Cinema Egyptian
Saturday, June 2, 2018, 1:30PM at AMC Pacific Place
You can learn more and buy tickets at https://www.siff.net/festival/leave-no-trace or at any SIFF box office. SIFF shows over 400 feature and short films over 25 days, but each film is only shown 1-3 times, so it’s a good idea to buy any tickets you want in advance. Ticket holders are guaranteed seats up to 10 minutes before a showing, but to get good seats at some films, it’s a good idea to be at the theater and in line at least 30 minutes in advance, and more than that if the film gets to “Limited Availability” or “On Standby” status. The Saturday showing is already on Limited Availability, so if you’re interested in that showing you should buy tickets very soon and be at the theater early. You can learn about all the SIFF films at www.siff.net/festival/film-guide or you can watch for “Leave No Trace” elsewhere in late June.
2018 AANR Elections – Remember to Vote
At the beginning of May, AANR members who were current on March 15, 2018, should have received an email with their voter’s registration code. It will have been sent from elections@vote-now.com. The subject was AANR Ballot. This email contains detailed instructions on how to cast your vote.
If you did not receive this email, call the AANR office at 1-800-TRY-NUDE to get help. They will help you get your registration code. The AANR Office is located in Kissimmee, Florida, so call during the week before 1pm Pacific Time. If you share your email with another AANR member, one of you may need to use a paper ballot, so don’t delay since there will be postal delays in sending paper back and forth across the country. Actually, I encourage everyone to vote now so that you don’t forget to do so.
The voter’s guide can be found in the May AANR Bulletin, in the member’s only section on AANR.com, and at
You are encouraged to vote. In years past, less than 10% of the AANR membership has chosen its leadership. AANR-NW has led the organization with the best turnout. Let’s do it again this year. Your vote counts. Please take the time to vote.
